I upgraded from the series 4, mostly for the bright always on screen, so I can easily see when my 30 min moto is over, and for the GPS, so I can use lit pro without the gps unit. It’s awesome. And the battery life is insanely better. Pretty sure I could go 3-4 days without a charge. I got the cream alpine band, works great; it’s super secure with a little stretch.

I also have used the LitPro with the GPS unit mounted to my bike before but it became a bit of a pain I stopped using it.
Do you get arm pump from wearing the watch? Also, did you protect it at all in case you fall? These were my two concerns.
Jesse 318-Personally, I bought an aftermarket soft exercise strap for the watch that velcros on, off amazon for better fitment and hasn't affected arm pump. I used to use a screen protector or one of those snap on covers, but was more afraid of dirt getting between cover and watch and messing it up. I use a cheap old 3, so not end of world if something happens to it, I am sure the Ultra is a bit more expensive so may be worth some type of protection.
I never had an issue with the Series 4 getting damaged by rocks or anything, and I rode a ton with it, and the ultra is supposed to be super strong. I did get apple care, though, so if I damage it I can get a new one for 99 bucks or something.
Thank for the recommendation. ended up upgrading my garmin to a Ultra last week. Haven't had a chance to ride with it yet however, the daily use/workout tracking is superior to my garmin.
It always blows my mind how I’m in the red for almost the entire moto too. I bust my ass on my rower feeling like I’m almost about to die, and I can’t even sniff the red.

Great review and post. I wear wrist braces so I can’t wear my Apple Watch; does anyone have a solid work around to collect data like what’s posted.
cheers
If you get a dedicated gps unit that works with LITPro you can just mount it on your bike. I think they are working on a new one that easily mounts behind your number plate.
you could also get the Apple Watch, use a chest strap heart rate monitor that bluetooths to the watch. And put the watch on your handlebar.
Not trying to be a hater but for a fitness watch you cant beat the garmins. My fenix 6 battery last for a couple of weeks.
I was pretty set on upgrading my old apple watch to a new Garmin for both moto and backcountry hunting reasons, but after this thread i looked into the apple watch ultra and while the battery life isn't that of a Garmin. with the improvements, familiarity and aps im used to from being an apple watch user and the promotions Verizon had going on, i ran out last night and picked one up. OP Apple owes you a cut lol
Yeah, if you are really into the Apple ecosystem and like the basic features of the Apple Watch (hard to beat going for a jog or bike ride and being able to take phone calls and listen to music without having your iPhone on you!), the Ultra is great. If not there are other options that are more fitness orientated and probably a bit cheaper.
Has your track changed since that top down image or is the watch still not tracking accurately enough to show all of the turns? I’ve been thinking about getting one for a private track but wonder how accurate it will be because there are some tight sections.
For the guys that do use Apple watch and want improved fitness metrics, I HIGHLY suggest purchasing the Athlytic app. Another thing that helped me decide to get another apple watch is that app.
The major differences are alternative lines that don't show up on the map image, but it's still not perfect for part of the track that are high speed. The track is pretty narrow though, as it's just a sand pit turn track.
If you just want lap times, the Apple Watch is accurate enough. If you want turn analysis (e.g., inside rut versus outside rut is faster), you need a dedicated GPS unit. I don't think any watches have that level of detail.
The Polar Vantage M is under $200 and works amazingly well with the Litpro app. The Apple watch wasn't accurate enough...
Another option is to get the mypitboard.com that goes on your handlebars.
I changed over to my first iPhone for the ultra. It has made a great positive change in my workouts like hyrox training or CrossFit. Flip wirst over to make sure I’m in zone two heart rate for those hour+ ones, and sprint for the 30min ones. Can’t wait to try it on the track this year.
And yeah, I routinely get 3 days off a charge
Bringing this one back up... does anyone know of an app that can be used on the app for tracking and navigation? Similar to OnX Offroad on your phone but right on the watch? Garmin has the capability with the F3B motorsports app but that isn't offered for apple watch. I can currently track rides and workouts but looking for the ability to see my route on my watch while the ride is in progress.
dcrainmaker.com has all the detailed reviews on gps accuracy. garmin forerunner 955 would be my pick. pick up a hrm strap for more accurate readings of hr.
