Barry Bonds is not the real home run king.

Yes, he was an amazing baseball player with or without steroids. Yes, he was on a hall of fame career trajectory before he touched a needle.

But you can look at his season-by-season stats and easily identify when he started juicing. He was a 30-40 HR/season guy when he was clean... there was no chance that he hits 72 in a season/ 762 in his career if he stays clean.

I know that steroids don't replace good hand-eye coordination or the ability to predict a pitchers' pitches, he always had that. But what steroids did do was put a bit more velocity behind some wall-scraper home runs that would've been flyouts if he wasn't juiced. It also helped his muscles recover, likely resulting in him staying healthy and powerful for a few extra years.
