I used to love watching the news. I can't anymore because it's either left or right. Give me some good choices. Watch or read. I don't care.

It's not just bias - interjected & constructed drama is almost as bad, even if they apply it without bias.

Or maybe I guess that might fall into the BS category sometimes. But not really all the time. Like, ya there really is a hurricane out there. But do you really have to be out there in the middle of it with all kinds of shit blowing by to report on it?

I like NPR, but not because of any lack of bias or slant.

Maybe I'm naïve, but I find that it is fairly easy to listen or read through their slant for most of the reporting. I think they do a decent job of covering most newsworthy topics. When they do lean into more opinion or a biased line of questioning (soft-balling certain guests while hard-lining certain others is the most common thing I hear) it is pretty transparent and easy to take with a grain of salt.

They obviously parrot a lot of the "more progressive" ideals and devote a lot of their programming on 'the sky is falling' stories. But hey, no one is perfect.

No radio commercials is nice.

NPR definitely has a left slant, it will be written from a left point of view + any opinion pieces, but I've never seen anything glaringly false or misleading. They're on my short list with Reuters and AP. The only "left" leaning media that I've seen address typically right wing concerns regularly.

I'd say National Propaganda Radio is more then a slant to the left. Their covid vaccine pieces were absolutely disgusting.

This site has a lot of tools for comparing the bias in media . It’s pretty interesting to read the same story from different bias and/or no bias . Check it out ….

Their reporting definitely is "pro-vaccine" overall, but they also haven't shied away from reporting on adverse effects and being critical of the CDC and officials.

Fauci is certainly one of those guests I mentioned who they give a lot of soft-balls to, though. They will barely push him off his narrative when he's on air.

I like Peter Boghossian's new show which is basically a rip on NPR's "all thing considered"

In my opinion:

PBS Nightly Newshour is my favorite. Judy Woodruff is a legend(retiring this year) and they spend more than a soundbite on the news. It's an hour every weeknight and they have world-wide on-site reporters, in-depth interviews, and expert guests.

Al Jazeera is excellent, especially for news from Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

BBC is good.

Wall Street Journal goes deep for a daily and leans right.

The New York Times is really good and leans left.

The New Yorker Magazine has the best long-form writers of all. Amazing stuff.

If they are interviewing Fauci and not asking him why he is poisoning the country, they are not a news outlet, they are a mouthpeice.

I like NPR. Some of their non-news culture stories are so boring that I want to jump off a cliff though.

"Today we are sitting down with Terry Shmorgaborg who has taken the saxaphone world by storm by playing his saxaphone in nothing but crocs as a profound protest against the Big Sax Industry. Here's his life story and a 35 minute performance of his avante garde single "Rock out with your Croc Out""

I really appreciated them during big court hearings like Mueller or the Jan 6 hearings since they just air the whole proceedings all day. I appreciate when news shows and doesn't tell you how to think or what things mean. Show, don't tell.

All sides.com. We use it in class fairly often. Not a news organization, but a source of many different news agencies listed as right/center/ left. Good place to get different perspectives, the truth is usually the commonalities between them all.

Oh fer sure. Anyone who is the sworn enemy of lying, pomposity, smugness and groupthink is my hero. Wait, so that must mean he's an enemy of Trump, scratch that.

I read a lot of news and I believe the best way is to get on Google News and read all types of stuff. Most of the left-leaning pubs are a lost cause since the Trump Administration. The bias is so bad right now, along with actual blatant collusion with intelligence agencies such as occurred with suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story to protect Joe Biden.
You really have to read different sources and then triangulate to get a sense of reality.

oh man, NPR is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. I'm in the San Antonio area and they are STILL running their 15s spots parroting the "safety of the vaccine. It could save your life!" every hour. Either that or their endless "Trump's baseless election fraud claims" while they mock him.

though to the point of this thread, it is a sad state of affairrs. "What kind of news would I like to hear?" and then you can choose your "news outlet" based on that slant. Thus, making it not NEWS anymore, it's opinion pieces packaged as news for your consumption based on party affiliation.
