I remember that race! haha
RV, MA, JG, JS...all would have been in front of Dungey on the 450 for MX1, Tedesco for MX3, and Dungey would have been MUCH better MX2 in front of Weimer.
This is our C team...the best available at the moment, but still our C team...
If Kobe Bryant gets hurt, and the lakers have to start Fisher at 2 gaurd...does that mean Fisher is now their first string, and best player? NO. It just means their First string and best player is out hurt...so they are taking their second sting player in his absense. It doesnt' make Fisher a first string player at 2 gaurd...
Do you get it?
NO...therefore, it isn't the A team...it isn't the B team...its AT BEST the C team.
Americans are the fastest riders (JS, RV...possibly even MA)....
AMA is the fastest, deepest, most prestigious, richest series in the world...
Why do you insist in arguing the contrary??? It's like arguing that the sky isn't blue...

The AMA series is, in your words, the fastest, deepest, most prestigious, richest series in the world... so you won't have a problem winning. Even with 1 guy that refuses to race and 2 other guys that are injured.
Djeezzz.. get over it. Team USA still is one of the favorits in my eyes.
Is that what your saying?
I'm pointing out the obvious (which unfortunatly, is often necessary aroung here), and setting a realistic expectation...not whining.
If we were sending an A or B team...we wouldn't have a problem winning. But with a C team, it will be difficult to win. That isn't whining, it's being realistic.
And we have 1 guy that rides for stupid team, and THREE guys that are injured.
And if you think our C team is one of the favorites, you must not have much respect for the rest of the riders in the world...and that's low class on your part.
The lack of depth in American motocross is the lowest I have ever seen.... and using former GP riders to cover this magnifies the problem- potentially no american rider winning a major outdoor title is proof of this.
Has this ever happened before in US motocrross history? Swanepole took 13 GPs to get 6th overall and did it in his first race in the US ... he isn't even winning the British national title... 3 europeans could 3 of the 4 and another ex GP rider is going to win the 4th. so going by the US logic the country of Europe produces most of the best riders in the world now...
The top US guys are amazing ( RV/ Stewart) but US outdoor motocross needs to pick it back up so they don't get taken over by the supercross generation again... hopefully that is what Davey is trying to do !!
Every country has injured riders. Maybe not 3 but at least one. Ofcourse, 3 is a lot but because of the size of the USA and the amount of riders team USA can choose from having 3 injured riders is not worse then another country that only has 1 or 2 riders injured.
Because of the amount of american pro riders you can choose between at least 10 riders. Most country's don't even have 3 pro riders and for those that have to see only 1 of them injured is a disaster.
I just think that it is very low class on your part to keep on pulling your own riders down. They are fantastic riders, each and every one of them. If James was willing to ride and if Villopoto or Alessi was not injured your team maybe, and yes i say maybe, could've been stronger. But that it is only ifs. It's not so you better live by it and cheer for your team instead of bringing them down.
Don't forget that James not yet has won a single race on european soil. He's not superman. He is very good, probably the best rider in the world but he has yet to win a race on euro soil.
Another factor could be that maybe you have your cream in the alleged C-team? Remember Ferry rescued your ass 2008 when Stew fucked up? Who is the A and C rider among those two?
They only thing I feel, is that it's a damn shame so many top dogs are missing this year.
There are a lot of ways we could have gone with this year's MXDN using the following (at this point) uninjured riders:
Tedesco
Short
Hahn
Milsaps
Dungey
Weimer
Barcia
Wharton
I think if you were to select the top 3 riders from the above list, you would probably have to choose the same 3 that DeCoster did. Since 2 of the 3 are 250f riders, the question then becomes where you put them. Because Dungey does have a history of adapting well to the 450 (supercross) and DeCoster probably has even more knowledge than that, he chose to put Dungey in MX1 and Weimer in MX2. It is a calculated gamble that may pay off well, depending on how well Dungey does on the 450.
Weimer is certainly no slouch. Dungey and Pourcel may be riding better in the outdoors right now, but remember what a fight Weimer put up against Dungey in the Supercross West 250s title fight, right up to the end. Also, Weimer has been getting better and better outdoors.
Putting Tedesco in MX3 is also a smart move, given his experience and speed. He has been on and off, but he does have a good history at the MXDN, and that has to count for a lot. It is a team game there.
Obviously, our choices for this year's team have had to be flexible, given the high number of injuries with our MX1 riders (Villopoto, Alessi, Grant)and Trey Canard. The team would have been different, had those injuries not happened, but they DID happen, so we've had to deal with it.
Given the performances of Reed, Byrne, and Metcalf, Team Australia has to be considered favorites for a top 3 position, if not victory. I would of course point out that all 3 of those riders having been in the AMA series for a long time now and must be considered fully "Americanized" as riders.
As far as the "A Team, B Team, C Team" issue, there can really be no arguing that losing Villopoto, Alessi, Grant, and Canard to injuries has resulted in the U.S. having to chose riders that would not have been chosen had those injuries not occured. That is really all the U.S. fans are arguing. The U.S. power team of Villopoto, Alessi, Dungey got 2 of 3 riders knocked out. Then we lost Grant, as well as the 2nd fastest 250f rider, Cannard. Not even mentioned, of course, was the loss of Stewart to the outdoors, which (rightly I feel) eliminated him as a choice for the MXDN.
Say what you will, but IF Stewart had ridden the outdoors, and injuries had not taken out Villopoto, Alessi, and Grant, things would be very, very different and those bad mouthing the U.S. "depth" and the AMA Nationals wouldn't have much to say.
Who or what is Kobe Bryant and Fisher and a 2 guard ?.......is it the new energy drink thats coming out ?
He has a habit of short circuiting when things go bad. I know he has grown up a lot in the last year. He has the chance to become a legend at this race.
He is not racing outdoors right now. Got it. But let's refrain from going back and trying to rewrite the past, shall we?
Pit Row
Anybody knows what's up with Seb Pourcel these days?
The MxdN is like the Olympics: Due to injuries, contracts, the planets not lining up right..., you don't have the best team that you could have had. And even if you do bring your best, anything can happen. In the end, the team that wins can claim to have been the best on that day.
I'm so pumped that this event is coming to Colorado next year. The track is 1hr from my house.
Hopefully all the A teams will show up next year.
I'm not trying to diminish his dominance last season. I'm just trying to say that it looks dumb when people keep trying to mention his name in the same sentence as the des nations team.
I'm not trying to take anything away from his season last year but his biggest challenge came from Cody Cooper at Unadilla. Now lets be honest....the 450 riders last year were never going to compete with the guy.
I was talking with DC at Loretta's where he made a valid point. He said he told DeCoster that he should pick Stewart for the team this year because the U.S. has 2 series-one indoor and one outdoor-and that Stewart rode in 1 of them. I don't agree completely with DC but I do see his point for sure. And I certainly don't think it is unreasonable for people to mention Stewart as a pick for this year's team. It certainly doesn't make people who mention him for the team sound dumb. He only missed the 07 team due to his knee injury after all. That would have been 3 straight winning teams--not a bad record.
smart
Thanks though, it's fun
