With all the bikes being stolen these days, I was wondering what you guys do to keep your scooters safe at home and at the track.

Myself, in my garage I have a 1/2 diameter cable linked through my bikes and stands and locked together by a huge American lock. The cable is just about impossible to cut with bolt cutters and a grinder takes a while with this kind of cable.

In my other house my bedroom was far from my garage so I added a baby monitor to my garage and the receiver to my bedroom. I could actually hear mice moving around in the garage from 100 feet away. They work well and are cheap.

When it's in the truck bed, I have a half inch cable run through the frame and through the hooks on the gooseneck hitch (plus the truck is pretty high up 4x4). In the garage it has a 1 inch cable through it and through a sunken, cement filled, steel post.1 mean Aussie Shepard, 2 mean "looking" Blue Healers, and 1 sissy but huge Lab mix (barks like a sissy too, but you can hear him 5 miles away) keep and eye and a tooth out for me too.

Really have not locked it up between moto's at the track, but that's gonna start after these threads the last few days.

I was pitted in the far back of a local track 5-6 years ago and saw someone walk up to this bike across the street(thought it was the owner, or friend) ,start it up, pop it in gear and pinned it to the open field.
Some kid walks up 5 min later decked out in his gear with a dumbfounded look on his face. Before the motohead pitted beside him told him what happened.
Felt bad for the kid. Wish i was able to do something about it.

I have never really worried about it. When they are at home in the garage I don't lock them down with anything. I guess since I live in apartments and the garages are detached I really should use some kind of cable and lock. When we are at the races I just leave them sitting outside the traier while me and the family sleep inside the trailer. I really sounds like I have been lucky compared to some of these guys. Maybe because I live in Texas and people know they can and will get shot for messing with a manes bike.

MATTI will make them think twice! I also have a half inch chain routed thru the lower portion of the studs (holes just big enough to fit chain thru) in the garage wall for a couple feet, than thru the frame with a fat azz lock on it!! If it wasnt a rental i would have a special setup in the concrete but thats the best i can do right now.

Lots of bike thefts have happened at 3 Palms at night, last time I checked that was still in Texas. I think me and you need to be thankful we have been lucky so far, and start taking precautions. Remember, right down the road from the most popualar track in our area, is not a very good part of town.

Luckily, I,ve not known anyone to get a bike stolen at a race here!

But at home try storing your bike separate from the wheels. It makes them proper f*ckers to move - and thieves are cheap bastards who aren't likely to want to pay for a set of wheels.

At the races my dad or myself always stay at the van to keep an eye on my bike. Pitting with people you know is also a good idea, then they watch out for you. At home I just have my bike locked in the garage on a stand. If I am somewhere and cant keep an eye on my bike I put it in my van lock it and set the alarm I had put in

I remember last year wen someone tried to steal a bike from a motocross club during riders briefing and everyone chased him, caught him and bashed him. They had to get a ambulance to take him to hospital because he was so messed up.

If you don't have theft insurance and/or using a lock, you are really playing Russian roulette. I've had a bike stolen between motos at Mosier Valley and I've also had my garage door kicked in at home and lost a bike there too. I use a big pad lock in my rear sprocket whenever my bike is in public or overnight at a track and my homeowner's insurance covers my bikes when they're at home and I still lock them there too.

My kids bike is inside a locked shed, inside the shed it is secured with a 1/2 inch case hardened steel chain locked through the frame and rear tire. The chain threads through the frame of an old power washer that no longer works but weighs about 75 lbs.

I know that if a professional thief came after it they would probably still get it but it will deter the average scumbag at least.

my bikes have streetbike disc locks that are super thick. and those round Master disc locks on the sprockets. my windows are boarded up from the inside and out. my overhead doors also have padlocks and the man door has a deadbolt and and huge padlock. Cockroach Puerto Ricans got me once they won't get me again!!!
when they are in the trailer the ramp door has 2 deadbolts on the inside plus the lock on the outside and the side door has this uncutable Master hockey puck lock.

but the bottom line INSURANCE!!!

Mine are locked together with a large cable and lock. I know it will only slow down a thief, but hopefully it will be long enough to deter them one way or another.

I usually have at least one wheel off of the bike and the bike itself is chained and locked to the stand. Figure it's a little bit of a deterrent if I don't make it so easy they can't roll it out. Also have insurance now that I'm a homeowner. I had a couple of bikes stolen years ago. Terrible feeling. I found one but not the one I really wanted back.

Not too long ago someone had a couple of bikes stolen after the thieves cut a hole in the side of their garage while feeding bologna and ham to the guard dog. While the owner was asleep.

I know a guy that had his bike stolen while he was in church. Had only made a couple of payments on the bike. It was in the back of his truck and the thieves just rolled it off.

A guy in NC had his bike stolen while at a hare scrambles. He must have pitted a little too close to the main road leading into the facility and the thieves took it while he was watching another race. I don't know how many times in the past I've left my bike unattended and unsecured at a race while wondering off for long periods of time. Won't do it now though.

A real guard dog won't take food from a stranger.

The only thing I have had stolen at the Track was at an opening round at Aztec a few year back and I left my brand new goggles on my handle bar and when i got back from watching my daughters race they were gone.

It sucks that thefts are rising I will be locking my stuff up with extra care now.

like I told tiki, keep your used silhouettes from when you spend a day out at the range.. I'll usually put one in the head, and empty the clip into the chest, and label it with distance and caliber using a fat black sharpie marker

I just got a policy added to my list.. also getting disc padlocks, 1/2 cable and kryptonite lock to attach to the bike while I am at the track alone..

Go to the local army surplus and buy a practice grenade and zip tie it to the bike.

Speaking as a police officer, you cannot make anything theft proof. However, you can make it harder to steal so the suspect will move on to an easier target. I run a cable through the wheels of our bikes also. No, it won't stop a theif determined to get them, but it will make it a little harder and you can bet it will stop the a neighborhood kid from "joyriding".

I lock my bike to my work bench with the biggest kryptonite cable availabe. Also added a deadbolt to my garage door when I moved in.

I have neighbors in my condo area that live right above my garage. Hopefully these precautions will keep someone from stealing my bike.

I would use one as well, but I don't trust a lock carved out of a log.
