Not just the US mind, The Cardiff SX venue, which was called the Millenium Stadium, was originally planned to replace Cardiff Arms Park, the home of Welsh Rugby, except they didnt want to give up their historic home, so they had to build it next door, and make a design change to miss the original ground.
My hometown football club ( thats proper football) actually had to sell their new ground as it was bankrupting them, and then rent it back, which they also couldnt afford, and they ended up playing at a town 35 miles away instead.
And now they share it with a Rugby team that was based in London, who moved here , and they are about to go bust as well.
Its about time they realised that it doesnt add up, but they still keep doing it.
Crippling debt everywhere you look and then we are spending 2.2 billion to watch a bunch of idiots play football.
IndyCar and the Trans-Am series seemed to have found a home there.
We had a friend all but begging us to invest in short term rental property there, when we were looking for our third one in sevier co.
A SX series event within easy driving distance would be okay with me.

There is a level of sticker shock when these new billion dollar indoor stadiums are announced, but over time they have proven to be a huge driver of local development and a financial boost to the economy. Not to mention for a city like Nashville they're guaranteed not to lose their NFL franchise for at least 20-25 years, unlike St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego did.

And like PhilG says: Building new stadiums or updating it to make it bigger is big business in the UK. "Palace given the go-ahead for revised Main Stand development"
After the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 where 1989 where 96 fans were killed in a crush ( back then the fans were penned in cos basically, if you didnt there would be a riot every game) , lots of stadiums didnt conform to the new rules, and were beyond modification.
Be aware that pretty much all UK clubs had grounds that were in the towns and cities ( there are 17 in London alone) so running out of room was a big deal.
A few teams went down the ' build new ' route and seem to have done ok, but lots have struggled with the debt it has bought.
Notable big clubs like Arsenal had new Stadiums built , as they could not get the amount of people in the wanted ( 38,500 at Highbury, now 61'000 at The Emirates) as economically , they couldnt compete with bigger clubs with more capacity.
Our local town club, their home sold off for building, and the owners built a new ground on the outskirts of town ( this is local football) , and then all sorts of financial shit goes down, and the club goes bust, a new club forms, that plays elsewhere, and the ground sits unused... so we have a club with no ground, and a ground with no club.
Bear in mind we are 15 miles from a Premiership Winning club here, which is where most folk go , it was never gonna be a success.
