As much as it hurts saying this.... Not much need to b*tch on Vietnam as long as MXGP can't get 20 riders at the gate for MX2 in freaking France.

This suggested calender has 14 EU rounds, let's hope this wildcard fee reduction that Mxvice says is coming helps get the gate numbers over a minimum of 30 at each EU GP.... That would be a massive improvement over last year, and give a base to look at how do you get 20+ regulars at fly away races.

Aside from fulfilling the gates, what wildcards give? Only lappers... Pretty much every rider that has a chance (financial or speed) is already riding in MXGP.
Talviku, Edberg, Boegh Damm, Fachetti, Martinez, Sydow, Stauffer, Polak, Kohut, Bonacorsi, Lata etc. from the top of my head all don't have a full time GP deal as far as i know. And would for sure be nice additions to have at the startgate and won't be lappers. They won't be top 5, but for sure won't be lappers as well.

What kind a track is Arnhem( apart from being a sandtrack) ?
There are several vids on youtube from the Dutch Masters races. It’s deep sand and quite fast

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they all can ride MXGP without being a wildcard? Think they all have their mxgp license

I am not sure what you mean with MXGP license.

Either they are signed to a team that has OAT status (official team), meaning they are approved to enter all GP's.
Or if the team does not have the OAT then they have to apply for wildcards. All these guys raced GP's this year and most did that on a wildcard. All names i just mentioned also have not been announced as signed for an OAT team afaik.

Most of those guys won't be returning as GP-regulars or even wild cards next season.

Edberg has made himself impossible to work with at Riley, Sydow moved to the enduro-scene, Boegh Damm aged out of MX2 and I doubt if he'll find a seat in MXGP, Facchetti seems to focus on Italian races after all his injuries, PolΓ‘k and JM Honda separated after money issues on PolΓ‘k's side, MartΓnez and Stauffer age out of EMX250, etc.

The only guys who'll turn up regularly seem to be Bonacorsi and Lata.

I think you exactly describe the reasons why they won't be full timers, but all would be very decent wildcard additions which was the point i was making that wildcard riders are not guys that will be lapped.

I would expect guys like Edberg, Boegh Damm, Fachetti, Polak, Martinez, Stauffer etc all to make deals for national championships and do a couple of wildcards nearby IF the wildcard price will indeed drop to EMX levels.

Maybe i am mistaken but i think Boegh Damm has 2 years left in MX2?

I believe that!
Also There’s a lot going on in the summer for people to do- their own racing, summer holidays, concerts, pubs, generally there’s a lot going on and limited money to spend. Whilst slightly out of season there’s less for people to do so they’re looking for the next thing to do.

The only thing I can see would really be a big problem is if WSX came to the UK in the same month.

People will be torn between WSX, MXGP, Weston beach race.. people have limited money to spend and potentially three big mx events inside four weeks.

I think it costs Dixon too much to hire Matterley in the Summer. Is bollox really cos he'd draw in a lot more people. Can you imagine

To a certain degree more punters can also lead to more problems for the organisers. Bigger costs, more toilets, more fencing, more security personnel. The offset to that is the the ticket sales, the food and drink sales and the merch sales. Only Dixon and his team know the risk/reward of the time of year.

Of course the better weather of the summer months lead to a better supported, more fun, better atmosphere GP which to us is always preferred.

MXGP will have no big name riders in the near future. All are coming to US to race Supercross and US Nationals. We are the country everyone wants to race in. MXGP just lost 1 world champ to the US series. How much longer will Tiga hold out before he comes over here full time? Same with Herlings and the rest.

My opinion. But its true about 90% of the time. The top MXGP and or European riders eventually end up in the USA.
Do I dare make a list? Its a lot and I'm going to forget a bunch, so I'll do what I can from memory:
Albertyn, Bayle, Pichon, Roncada, Vuillemin, Searle, McFarlane, Metcalfe, Musquin, Ferrandis, Roczen, Lawrence brothers, Vialle, Herlings dabbled one race, Ferris, Gajser for Monster cup, Anstie, Reed, Craig Anderson, Cairolli, Byrne, Tortelli, Narita, Townley, Pourcel, Cooper, Desalle, Rattray, Strijbos, Noren, this list is too long...

By the same logic you used to add Herlings and Gajser to this list GP’s could claim Bob Hannah, Jonny O, RJ, Tomac, Webb, Barcia, Anderson etc because they all raced a Grand Prix or two

The difference is ALL of my list except those 2 riders stayed here to race the entire series, not just 1 round. You're just cherry picking for your own gain.

Ah yes how could I forget the time that Desalle, Cairoli and Strijbos raced a full US season

Then i will explian it.. with the motorcross in europa it is very bad .....empty gates everywhere...and then they go to all kinds of countries that have nothing to do with motocross....very expensive gps for the teams....and they have it hard enough to find sponsormoney .... dont know if you've seen the gp off Indonesisch with 8 riders in.... the mx2 and yes there were spectators but i'm curious what the entranc was ...dont think 75 euro
I say this about AMA series as well. For supercross and motocross they go back and forth across the country instead of being in a loop for both series. Makes no sense for truck drivers and teams.

Dixon said that operational costs for the March slot for the 2019 GP was 30% less that it would have been in summer. He also said that accommodation costs for teams and fans is significantly cheaper out of the summer peak.
