One of the worst kept secrets in the sport but it’s finally public! Dean Wilson has signed with the Firepower Honda / Genuine Honda Racing team for 2022 and 2023 World Supercross, along with AMA Supercross for 2023. Still with Rockstar Energy but has swapped over to Fly Racing head-to-knees.
Thought he was "retiring" though.

I have not heard anything official, but if Firepower got him without having to cough up his salary, it’s totally unfair to the other teams.
He got the attendance deal to race the series by wsx.
And I bet yarrive was straight onto securing his spot.
There could possibly be payment from the team also.
As he was on Honda there was only really 2 options. Mcr or firepower Honda. Mcr already had riders.
It's in their(the promoters) best interest to get the biggest names they can -as quickly as they can- to give 'em legitimacy, attract big $$ sponsors, and also(speaking for Captain Obvious) get the fans to attend(PAY).
Pit Row
As I understand it, they're BOTH getting "start money" for their appearances.
Kenny had to be on a Honda based team and there were really only two options with that.
Is it fair? Well, I can see where people say it isn't...but...top tier riders getting paid start money sin't new. Kenny was originally thinking he was gonna be on "his" Honda...but, we all saw that fall thru. DOH!
I see it as Kenny being in the most closely aligned with Honda...Honda Team.
I'm still wondering where...or if...he even get's a deal for 2023 SX.
Seely in TLD when team is sponsored by Leatt
Both for WSX only I assume… it’ll be interesting to see if Cole can keep his TLD deal, if he decides to race 250’s for MCR next year.
I know Brayton got to wear Fly, because of his 450 deal, but Cole will be on a 250, if he races for MCR in ‘23 SX.
Kenny with Genuine Honda is a collaborative thing. His bike will been look different. Dean however is racing for Firepower Honda in the US for 2023…so he’s on the team gear deal.
Interesting on the MCR/Leatt deal. So many variables come into play with these team contracts. Nice having that option for Cole, so he can keep his relationship with Troy.
That’s kinda how I perceived Kenny’s situation.
Being that said… How do you think Kenny being on the team, affect the allocated money/budget that each team got ? Does WSX pay Kenny show up money on their (WSX) dime or do they take it (or part of it) from the money they were allocated to race ?
I can’t see FirePower being able to afford to pay Kenny enough money to race AMA SX for them, but I don’t know much about them or where their funding comes from. Brayton and now Wilson can’t be cheap, I’d thing together they have to put a pretty good sized dent in their budget ?
You’re a good dude Wilma, I’m sure he appreciates all your help.
