First, my apologies... I'm sure that this has been brought up before, but I couldn't find a similar thread using the search function.

The recommended idle speed in the manual is 2,250 - 2,350. I've adjusted to this in the past and the bike is basically screaming at idle. It's so high that it will roll in 1st gear without the throttle on. This is my second 350, and both have come from the dealer with the idle sounding "correct" and around 1,800 - 1900 rpm.

The problem is that, like many 350s, mine has the tendency to flame out in tighter single track. I really have to fan the hell out of the clutch to keep it from dying.

I'm not remapping the bike, and I keep the fuel filters and air filters clean. My question is....

What have you done about flame outs on your 350, and does anyone have their idle set to the recommended setting?

I have mine set high enough I can take off without the throttle , and even shift to second, third, etc without the throttle and it’ll keep chugging.

I did this to reduce stalling coming into corners under heavy braking, brake tapping in the air, and reduce engine braking downhills.

Crank the idle up, you’ll get used to it quickly, and it’s better in many ways.

Doesn’t pitch forward as hard off throttle, so it helps smooth you out too.

Also worth consider the Blais racing clutch weight. Cheap and does exactly what they claim.

If you don’t want to remap, then I’d set idle high. The flame out and engine braking were two of my main complaints on stock ECU (‘19 FC350).

Thank you both. I’ll set it high. I didn’t even consider the engine braking, something that I’ve gotten used to over the years. Looking forward to giving it a shot.

Turn the idle up, it does help, make sure tps is set, the vortex does help in multiple ways, even remapping the stock ecu is beneficial and is pretty affordable

Mine does the same shit. The answer? Be ready and fan the clutch and keep the throttle up in tight turns. These things die on the tight stuff if you don't adjust your riding style. It probably needs a remap and TPS adjustment at the same time as the remap. Frustrating

I bought a new 350 and installed a rekluse before I even started the engine. I haven't stalled it once I only ride technical mountain single track in the cascades and rockies.

Rekluse aint cheap, but it certainly works. I even put one on my 300 after I got used to the benefits of it on the 350. And I used to talk shit on reklue riders once upon a time...

You need to set the idle to the recommended setting. When you change the idle, it changes the TPS setting and that's where the problems with flame outs start. I still get an occasional stall but the mapping on the 2021+ bikes isn't bad. My 2019 was bad and it stalled all the time until I got the ECU remapped.

What are you using to check the RPMs? If you are using an aftermarket hour meter, make sure it is on the correct setting for your bike. Dealers use a user setting tool to set idle when they're new and you should be able to take it there to make sure the idle and TPS setting are correct.

If I was riding tight single track on my 350, I'd probably run the idle on the upper range of the recommended setting to keep it from stalling.

Oh, and one more thing. Make sure you are adjusting the idle knob (red) and not the yellow knob. If you messed with the yellow one, make sure it is back to the factory recommended setting as well. It will tell you how many clicks out in the manual. I had trouble with one of my 350's running right and someone messed with turning that yellow knob in.

Maybe a silly question but, how do you determine RPM? Obviously we do not have factory tachometers. Best method?

You can buy a cheap hour/tach from Amazon for about $15. It has a wire that raps around the spark plug wire.

In the past I’ve used a works connection hour meter/tach to check the idle. I don’t recall there being multiple settings for rpm.

Some hour meters have different PPR settings, .5, 1, 2. Need to make sure you are at PPR 1 or it will give you a inaccurate reading.

The CX model.
Heavy wedges and light springs make it behave just like stock. No freewheeling on downhills and no slipping on engagement. I liked it so much I bought one for my 2 stroke too

If I hopped on your bike right now and you did not tell me it had an auto-clutch, would I be able to tell by either how it rides or the feel at the lever, other than being impossible to stall?
