1993 H-o-T CR125

Edited Date/Time 9/22/2022 11:49am
It's been a very long time since I posted anything!

But I finished this little thing a few weeks ago. Its taken a LONG time to get finished.

Its a real deal HOT 125. Todd Dehoops outdoors race bike.

I asked Todd if he could find me a 125 engine (they are all f**ked over here!) he came back and said "i know where my '93 race bike is"...

Finally shes done.

Got loads of pics to post up but i'll start at the beginning!

The first 2 pics are it still in the US before Todd stripped her and boxed her up for shipping.

When she arrived I loosely assembled it to see what we had.

Building her up in the 'shop.

She had apparently blown up a good 15yrs ago, and then sat in a Michigan barn with the top off..... she was in a bad way...

The gearbox was pretty much perfect though!

Awesome! I still ride my 93 ! Probably my favorite old bike that I ride. The 90”s Honda’s were built to last! These bikes did not need much to be competitive on the National level… curious to what was done to the engine? Here is a photo of mine, built as a D.Henry replica but pretty much stock.

I'm gonna jump ahead a little here. I did take loads of photos but i cant find em!!

Any way. I managed to save the barrel. The PV's were seized in there pretty good, but we did managed to get them out with out scrapping the barrel.

It was sent out for re-plating.

Everything was vapour blasted, and then the bottom end was Cerakoted the correct satin black.
All build up, with shed loads of new, new OEM and NOS parts.

The engine studs are Ti, with stainless nuts.

The case screw set is "HRC" spec (flat topped with no dish) and is a mix of alloy on the non stressed areas and Ti on the stressed.
Even the coolant/oil drain screws are Titanium.

Engine wise, the Barrel and cases were ported, the carb was bored out to 38mm and there was a "team issue" PC pipe. Its different to the production/customer PC pipe. Much thinner material, and a very different shape. Other than that, its was pretty stock.

There's a big gap in the pics. It took me so long to get her done, I've lost a lot of "progress" pics.

But heres the shock.
It was completely stripped, the body was blasted and cerakoted.

I made new Alloy pre-load adjusters, spring seat, bladder end etc which we had anodised red.
The shaft lock nut and washer are Titanium.
The shock end I custom made in billet alloy. Engraved with Todds 93 race number.
The little adjuster is all made new, in Ti and brass, getting the old one out virtually destroyed it!
Sent it out to ERS to rebuild/valve it all. It came back with a red spring...it looked a bit plain! So I had It powder coated candy blue for a bit of "pop".

Awesome Bike very clean Work
How about to Ceracote Engine Cases without Cylinder
You put the Engine Cases together with a Gaket between and Tape Cover all the Holes or how does it work ?

The pipe was pretty trashed, so it went to Italy. There is a wizard that lives there and does some magical things! He restored the pipe and fitted a new badge.

Billet linkage fitted.

GMX Rads.
New OEM grilles
Samco hoses

Everything is Titanium.
Axles, linkage bolts, engine bolts. Caliper slide pins, brake pistons etc.
Its all HRC spec, (flat topped with no dish) The smaller bolts have the collars all machined into them as-well so there are no parts to drop off or loose when you take them out.

All the washers are drilled alloy.

Head steady plates are new. We had a batch made.

The original 93 forks were good, but the uppers were quite badly worn from where the fork guards had rubbed. It was too much to repair. NOS tubes were crazy money... so we went with 2003 47mm Twin Chambers.

I polished the uppers, then had them anodised clear (they tried to colour match the original 93 tubes) the legs were re hard chromed. The axle lugs vapour blasted. Like the shock they went to Eastwoods to be valved and rebuilt.

We make the billet clamps, specifically for this swap (we also do "stock" 93 billet clamps).

This meant I had to use the later 6 bolt hub. Both hubs were skimmed/de-seamed a Cerakoted satin black.
Rebuilt with Stainless spokes and Excel rims.

I was used a 260mm CRF Disc.

Cant be doing with nyloc nuts so I made this little plate to for the cable guide.
All new Venhill hoses.
HRC spec alloy fork guard screws, banjo bolts and hose clamp bolts.

All new OEM cables and kill switch.

The original "short tip" gear lever was in really good condition. Vapour blasted the lever, had the tip and spring re zinc plated. Made up a little Titanium pivot pin.

A few more details.
HRC spec alloy nuts.

HRC spec alloy brake clevis. I made the rear master cylinder push-rod assembly in Titanium.

The original plastic tank had gone yellow and looked naff. An alloy tank saved the day! I was in 2 minds to paint it or to go with white decals... but the plain alloy looks amazing!

The seat "button" is billet alloy, (anodised black) the retainer screw is Titanium, as is the tank strap screw.
HRC spec billet alloy and Ti air filter screw.

Finished it off with the some replica AMA tech stickers, H-O-T replica decal set and Todds '93 race number.

The amount of new and NOS parts that have gone into it is insane.

Now shes finished, shes the first one I don't want to ride!
The original plan was for Todd to come over and race her again at the Vetsmxdn, but sadly that won't happen.

Still, I'm really please with how shes turned out!

Incredible build! Big fan of the 90s Hondas, really dig that color on the shock spring.

Wow such great attention to details. Even better that it’s the real race bike!
Is it Baker that was doing HoT’s engine in 93 or he came around a little later?
