I bought my KTM with Dal Soggio inserts, it’s working about as good as anything I’ve ever ridden. The only thing that might have been better was Precision Concepts KYBs on a YZ450, but it had flex bars and the bars were probably the difference.
Fasst or twisted? I've been thinking about getting the twisted bars but... you shouldnt need them. The bike should just be suspended properly.

The Dal Soggio spring conversion inserts are great though!
I have Fasst Flexx Bars on my 350, I use them more so for vibration than chop absorption.

I think one of the reasons I really like riding a YZ back to back with my KTM is the vibration.

What’s the issue with bottoming with the XACT fork?
I actually didn’t have an issue with the 21 + XACT for MX if the track wasn’t super rough with a ton of square edge and bad braking bumps. On fairly smooth tracks it worked fine.

The air fork ramps up in pressure significantly as the stroke deepens which acts as an anti bottoming mechanism along with the damping leg. When you remove this with a coil spring kit, you are removing alot of the damping forces available and open yourself up to some potentially bad situations.

I like the Xact air setup I have if it werent for the piss tier initial stroke performance.

That's what I thought, but still went for it. Threads like this help me a ton so I hope 3 months down the road someone find this to be a well of information.

I went PHDS mounts w/ the green elastomers and they're a true game changer. I will use them for life.

That price is surprising to me.

I had a 2021 YZ250F that I got a quote from Factory Connection to revalve/spring and they quoted me like $1500. "I'm like WTF for???" I assumed if you throw a coil spring cartridge on top of that it would be over $2k.

They replace all the serviceable parts, even on new forks.

So you are 200lbs and pretty fast, but none of the tuners wanted to setup your shock?

I had them air clamps on mine because of slap down landings, once the shock was done by a good tuner I took them off.

I am compelled to create an account to share my two cents in this thread. I've been lurking for years. I couldn’t find much information on single spring conversion kits in the forums either when I was in the market.

I picked up a Ktech ORSS spring conversion in the market place here for about half the price of new a couple months ago and it was totally worth it for me. I was skeptical of gaining performance, comfort, more planted feel, etc but as it turns out, I wish I converted to spring sooner. It’s pretty nice, giving me more confidence and front end feel in the turns.

The only nuisances with the Ktech ORSS kit (and maybe all single spring kits) is dealing with the different length fork legs, having to set the preload after installing the fork and wheel, and the fork always turning to the left on the stand. Not that big of a deal compared to tinkering with the air pressure all the time.

I’m sure a properly setup dual spring kit is better, but you’re paying for that. I have a Ktech bladder conversion and Ktech ORVS 4 port piston in my shock. Now the Ktech ORSS spring conversion is in the forks and I don’t think about my suspension anymore. Everything was installed for around $1k, spending more than that is diminishing returns for my skill and speed.

Save yourself the time and get the shock revalved now as well. The shock setting has a huge effect on how these forks feel. If your over 180 there’s no way the stock shock is working as good as it should for you.

Oh no, they did. I have a budget and I'm sticking to it. I'm already over on the conversions. It'll simple have to get done at a later time. I don't like this, but it is what it is for now ):

Different length fork legs? I do not think that is supposed to be the case. Are you sure?

You said in other thread 203lns and 6'3"??? Your shock setup is why your forks aren't working. Since you are heavier and tall, when you stand up it puts a lot of leverage on the back end, the bike is choppered and the forks won't work properly. Put money into forks, you still have a bad setup. Totally agree. I had JBI re-valve and correctly spring the shock for my weight/ability while putting sub-valves in up front on my 2019 350SXF.
I was pleasantly surprised how much better the rear of the bike tracked through ruts and absorbed kickers off the face of jumps. If I was MUCH younger and had more speed, I would go spring conversion, but it's pretty good for what I do.

Yes, a Ktech spring converted fork can be around 2mm longer than the damping leg. I'm not sure if all years and batches of ORSS kits are like that but it has been discussed in other forums. My left fork leg fork sits around 1.5mm higher than my right leg in the triple clamps but my axle spins free before the wheel is install.

There is a specific process of installing the fork, the wheel, and then setting the preload to follow with these kits.

That's not exactly true. I have correct spring rates and sag, and the valving is generally alright. Is it optimal? No way. Is it causing the front end problems I'm experiencing? No way.

I want to really reiterate that this is the best feeling bike I've ever been on. It's balanced, predictable, comfortable. I am struggling with front end traction, harshness, and inconsistency. This is why I want to go to a spring.

The invoice is paid so we're about to find out for sure if I'm an idiot or not though lol.

JB is awesome and that kit we have is great. It didn't give me the plushness I need to charge the way I wanted to but it totally transformed that bike. He's a wizard.

I have a 2017 KTM 350 with a Ktech conversion and 2023 KTM 350 that is stock so far.

I'm going to get a new Ktech conversion for the 2023 because I can't afford the KYB.

I will say, even with a properly valved fork with the Ktech conversion I preferred the feel of my buddy's STOCK 2022 YZ450F fork. Keefer also mentions that the KYB converted WP fork compared to YZ fork won't feel the same.

If I was a 450 guy I would 100% ride a Yamaha. Since I love the 350 I'm stuck riding an Austrian brand.
My son really really liked his 21 yz450. Now that he lhas the 23 450xcf, he likes it better. Still stock suspension. No races yet. He has ridden about 8 hrs worth of 30-40 min mx practice motos and XC practice motos. (Just got over king flu!) he likes the KTM much more so far. Still stock valving, 4.8 shock spring. He races local pro XC, B ish MX. I am sure we will convert the forks. His 19 350 had the ktech set up locally. But these things are not terrible. I will ride my 350 stock when i get it. I race +45, +50 A XC locally, nationals I race B. This 23 is something, makes me excited to get my 350

I think I mentioned it in another thread but my 350 feels 100% as strong as a YZ450F. It’s insane how cool these bikes are, and even cooler that there are virtually no reports of engine failures and tons of anecdotal testimonies of them being at 80 hours on nothing but oil changes.

If the suspension only came spring from the factory…

Yeah, all good. Funny thing though is I got to ride the YZF’s and they were just as harsh in acceleration chop. Very abusive. I thought mine was rough because of the lack of a bladder but the YZ was also. So I’m not sure how to clean that up. I thought my bike was rough over the piston but not the case. Revalve will help but we’ll see later on.

80 hours? I’ve done over 300 nothing but oil changes. I race A class.

I’ve had KYB inserts done by Enzo and they were good. I was pleasantly surprised just how good stock 22 KTM 350SXF forks are. I weighed them on my shipping scales and the insert forks were 4 lbs heavier also. I’ve read 3 lbs, but mine were a touch over 4 lbs.

I would guess your just a little deep in the valving over the chop. You could try increasing your HSC 1/4 turn at a time to see if that helps.

I'm not sure if its my weight or just the gnarly acceleration but sometimes it feels like bike is squatted down hard in the back.

I guess I never thought the harshness was from riding deep. Once this happens, and the low speed gets deep in the stroke, the chop gets the high speed active right? So if I had the HSC a little firm, now, i'm low in the stroke and using the HSC's firmer setting to boot? I've learned a ton in this thread lol, I would be willing to bet I've got the shock too soft. It's really close if not right at baseline settings, maybe a little softer.

When the rear is really squatting, you are also into the firm part of linkage progression. This compounds the harder setting on the HS adjustment.
