The kx450f's are literally the only chassis i feel comfortable on. I had a '12 RMZ450 way back until 2016 and loved it, but still felt cramped. Went to a '16 yz450f for a year-ish. Then to a '15 kx450f. Now building up a 2018 kx450f.

The Kawi is the only thing I feel I can move around freely on and grip properly. i have a rule about buying bikes... if I don't feel comfortable the instant i sit on it, i walk away. No point in putting money into something and fighting an uphill battle from the start.

I'd love to go back to an RMZ or KTM, but they just just don't feel right to me between the legs after giving the Kxf some saddle time.

Thanks for the insight, at 6’4” I’m close to you and feeling huge on any bike. Wanted some big guy perspective on the RMZ, as I’d really like to swing a leg over one again. My buddy has a 18 KXF so I’ll probably turn some laps on it this weekend and see how it feels.

I havent done any “tall person” mods to my 20 YZF other than turn the bar mounts to the furthest forward position, trying to get comfortable before throwing more parts at it like taller bars and lower/back pegs. I’m certainly not uncomfortable on it, just feel big still.

They won’t hurt your wallet too bad but if you are for sure getting rid of the bike then I wouldn’t put money into it.

On the KXF, the pegs are stock location. Bar mounts are xtrig phsd raised 10mm slinging renthal 997 twinwalls. Bike is torn down but I ride before she got the xtrigs. It was super comfy then, but now it’s retarded how roomy the cockpit is.

You should be able to find a ‘16-‘18 Kawi in the same price range. The previous gen chassis fits SLIGHTLY better but the ‘16-‘18 turns circles around it without it feeling like it lost high speed stability in chop.
I’ll look them up, currently waiting for the flomotorsports pegs to be back in stock and try them. Definitely not getting rid of the Yamadog, just thinking of adding another bike 🙃

My previous bike was an 08 kawi, and I was always comfortable on that.

Was curious when I saw you say you were too tall as well. I’m 6’3”, and feel plenty comfortable with stock bar bend and pegs/seat. I will say though, I think my height is kind of at the end of that “comfortable for anything” spectrum. Those couple inches on everything body part makes a difference.
Good to hear from a tall RMZ rider! I just need to get on one and see how it feels.

No and I’m so disappointed. The bike was grossly misrepresented in the ad. The pics were from the original owner and the guy who was selling it is the third owner. When he rolled it out of the garage I was like wtf? It looked like it was 10 years old. I guess I should’ve asked more questions before making the hour and a half drive, so bad on me. I told him I was none too happy about the misleading ad. He said he was in a hurry to get it listed and just used the original listing. Anyway, the search continues.

Best turning bike you’ll ever ride and it’s ridiculous how much punishment they can take 🤘
How tall are ya?

That’s good to hear the KX fits bigger guys, I really want to test ride the current 19-21. Everyone says that frame works great at the end of the day when the track is hammered. Which is usually when I ride. I’m definitely not one of those guys who gets to the track at 8am, lol.

Apologies, it’s System Tech Racing that makes the mounts.

I’m not a fan of the Flo pegs, so if you want other pegs options then I’d give the mounts a shot 👍

I’ve only spun like 2-3 laps on the new kxf (well, the ‘19 but it’s the same chassis), and I still think the ‘16-‘18 fits me better BUT I do think it’s the better fitting out of the new bikes.

That sucks - but better to pass on it then buy POS bike. Keep looking - one will pop up soon.

I’m close to the same weight with gear. I have an 18.

Rode a dry hard pack track yesterday with some big jumps and lots of chatter bumps. Really exposed the cons of the rigid chassis. I took my new FCP mounts to the track to test and definitely a softer feel in the right direction. Also I have a 1.5mm link on the bike. I rode a buddy’s 19 yz250f with kyb’s and could not believe how plush and comfortable they were! Would a revalve make these forks more forgiving on the dry bumpy stuff?

RG3 just revalved the suspension from my 18 and its a huge improvement and I have the RIde Engineering link. I am 180 w gear on and advanced but not Pro rider, RG3 recommended the stock springs, so if you are 220, will likely need different springs as well. The tracks I ride are also pretty big jumps with quite a few unforgiving landings, lot of chatter and blue groove. I have only put 5 hours on the new set up but it is definitely dialed in and it is working better in all situations.

I also ride an 18 Sxf 270 w KYB inserts and the KYB definitely feels more plush. I credit part of this to the fork, but also the forgiving frame of the KTM.

What a drag, and a waste of your time.
I got super lucky on my last purchase, I’m usually in your shoes getting hosed by misleading adds
