With all of the injuries, X Games is only going to implant into the minds of lot of parents that they should NEVER let their kids ride a dirt bike.
When Blake Wharton landed on Anstie or when rider after rider hit the ground hard during Best Trick, I'm sure mothers all across the nation were wondering where their nearest motorcycle dealership is and when the soonest they could go pick up a CRF50 for little Billy....NOT!
X Games bring a lot of attention to the sport, alright. Attention we probably don't need.

I think everyone was just talking more along the lines of exposure and sponsorship money.

There were what...15 jump attempts in Best Trick and most resulted in bad crashes. At a supercross, there are thousands and thousands of jumps executed and only a handful of crashes.
When the whole focus of the show is on watching riders drill themselves into the ground, that's not good for the sport and will probably discourage more riders from getting into it than vice versa.
With MX, mom and dad have no clue what it's really about and are only exposed to it once a year during X Games. Just enough for them to know they need to stay away. Everyone always asks me if I can do backflips when they find out I ride motorcycles.
The average person has no clue that what they see on X Games isn't really what dirt bikes are all about.
If only Amateur MX got 1/100th the exposure X games did, but that is not going to happen anytime soon
*that was response to Spyguy, forgot to use quote
Riders crash and get hurt all the time. A one time event will make you push a little harder especially with all the exposure. If you don't want to see injuries, don't watch racing. It's not like Stewie has never crashed out of a race. It's not like TP never crashed before. It's not like engines don't let loose from time to time and riders never land on each other.
There wasn't a "unique" incidence or crash all weekend. We have seen all of it before. This time though, people were actually watching.
I wonder if it would have been easier to land some of that stuff if the space wasnt so small?
Seems kind of silly to have it inside 1/2 of the Staples Center...
But MXA had a point...it looks bad for them to allow Scott Murray keep auguring himself into the ground trying the same trick.
Of course, many Americans just aren't that bright.
No doubt the XGames is lacking in execution, but at least it's MX on tv to a worldwide audience.
Pit Row
We've all heard, "The squeaky wheel gets greased". Well after watching "The Wide World of Sports" when I was around 10, I wanted to be "Bad Brad Lackey". I remember asking my parents for a mini bike over and over and over until they bought me a Honda mini trail 50, I've had a dirt bike in the garage ever since. My Dad even bought one for himself, a Honda 350 scrambler.
I'm sure some kids watching today, caught the same bug we did and now they want a motorcycle. They will keep bugging their parents till they get one, or will figure out a way to get one on their own, some day.
I agree, it's not the nationals, but they are racing dirt bikes on TV, why complain.
Now that's just dumb.
