With all of the injuries, X Games is only going to implant into the minds of lot of parents that they should NEVER let their kids ride a dirt bike.

When Blake Wharton landed on Anstie or when rider after rider hit the ground hard during Best Trick, I'm sure mothers all across the nation were wondering where their nearest motorcycle dealership is and when the soonest they could go pick up a CRF50 for little Billy....NOT!

X Games bring a lot of attention to the sport, alright. Attention we probably don't need.

Valid point. Had not considered that...

I think everyone was just talking more along the lines of exposure and sponsorship money.

Well lets hope none of those parents ever go to a SX or MX race.

The Sportscenter with the Ashley topic put it in a very good light.

I see what you are saying, but were the mothers and fathers watching Jamie Bestwick in the BMX vert when he knocked himself so silly he didnt remember his run? and did that keep them from buying little Billy his first bicycle?

Obviously there are going to be crashes at any motocross event, but when you put in events like "Best Trick", it just amplifies the number of bad crashes.

There were what...15 jump attempts in Best Trick and most resulted in bad crashes. At a supercross, there are thousands and thousands of jumps executed and only a handful of crashes.

When the whole focus of the show is on watching riders drill themselves into the ground, that's not good for the sport and will probably discourage more riders from getting into it than vice versa.

Moms and dads are all familiar with bicycles and know little Billy isn't going to be heading to the vert ramp anytime soon.

With MX, mom and dad have no clue what it's really about and are only exposed to it once a year during X Games. Just enough for them to know they need to stay away. Everyone always asks me if I can do backflips when they find out I ride motorcycles.

The average person has no clue that what they see on X Games isn't really what dirt bikes are all about.

Good point, i didnt even look at it in that way.

If only Amateur MX got 1/100th the exposure X games did, but that is not going to happen anytime soon

Injuries happen and I would bet you have a higher incidence of injury at one off events. But you can't blame the track (is the dirt that different from Phoenix?) or anything else for that matter. These are called "extreme" sports for a reason. Racers/performers get hurt all the time. Look at all the injuries we have had in moto this year.

Riders crash and get hurt all the time. A one time event will make you push a little harder especially with all the exposure. If you don't want to see injuries, don't watch racing. It's not like Stewie has never crashed out of a race. It's not like TP never crashed before. It's not like engines don't let loose from time to time and riders never land on each other.

There wasn't a "unique" incidence or crash all weekend. We have seen all of it before. This time though, people were actually watching.

I agree 100%. To the casual viewer/parent of potential young dike bike rider, the line between FMX and MX is probably blurred and I can't see how so much X-Games carnage could help convince those parents to buy Junior his first MX bike.

The Best Trick competition was brutal.

I wonder if it would have been easier to land some of that stuff if the space wasnt so small?

Seems kind of silly to have it inside 1/2 of the Staples Center...

It's just the nature of the beast. I don't believe FMX is any more dangerous than Supercross. You can't sugarcoat the injury aspect of motorcycles no matter the format.

But MXA had a point...it looks bad for them to allow Scott Murray keep auguring himself into the ground trying the same trick.

I am with SPYGUY and CamP . The Xgames makes it look like hard crashes are the norm everytime you throw your leg over the bike .

X Games are the new USA replacement for the Outdoor Nationals and MXdN. Far more positive exposure than what MXSPORTS has done this year. 2010 will exceed the 1974 motocross bike sales due to its huge coverage. Josh Hansen is the best trained athelete in the sport of motocross. He has won the most prestiges title two years in a row. Forget Ricky Charmiceal and James Stewart. This Hansen guy is the new fastest man on the planet and the greatest of all time.

It's unfortunate that many Americans confuse quantity for quality.

Of course, many Americans just aren't that bright.

Man, you guys have some short memories. Am I the only one who remembers staying up till 2AM three weeks later, or paying a 1-900 Number to get race results?

No doubt the XGames is lacking in execution, but at least it's MX on tv to a worldwide audience.

He wasn't as core as the guy wadding up on the front flip. The "visorless" helmet was a nice touch as well.

Ever since the beginning of motorcycles, they have had a bad image. Hell, I think my parents thought only Hells Angels had motorcycles.

We've all heard, "The squeaky wheel gets greased". Well after watching "The Wide World of Sports" when I was around 10, I wanted to be "Bad Brad Lackey". I remember asking my parents for a mini bike over and over and over until they bought me a Honda mini trail 50, I've had a dirt bike in the garage ever since. My Dad even bought one for himself, a Honda 350 scrambler.

I'm sure some kids watching today, caught the same bug we did and now they want a motorcycle. They will keep bugging their parents till they get one, or will figure out a way to get one on their own, some day.

I agree, it's not the nationals, but they are racing dirt bikes on TV, why complain.

Hopefully X-Games scare more dumbass flat-billers away from MX.

Everyone grew up riding bicycles. They experienced it first hand and know that the kids will probably have the same amount of scratches that they had as a kid and dont think twice about it. Same as a skateboard. You wont think twice about your kids riding one of those either. Not everyone grew up riding dirtbikes.

Wait, are you trying to compare MX with FMX?
Now that's just dumb.

I can't hurt it anymore than a SX or National. BTW, did you not know that motorcycles already have a negative impression tied to them (from most parents viewpoints)???
