Who was National #72 back in 1978 ? I've been trying to figure it out this whole time. He rode a Suzuki and raced the Hangtown National at Plymouth, CA - not sure which class he rode. He also rode the 250 support class in the Trans AMA race at Sears Point and pulled the holeshot in at least one (and possibly both) of the motos.
I don't know if he was Nor Cal or not. I have no idea who he was.
This guy pulled the holeshot in the 1st 250 Support moto at that 1978 Sears Point Trans AMA race on an RM 250. You were in the race also. Magoo won that day. I have a program from that race, but #72 is not listed.

Emailed the pics to a buddy that did the 125 Nats with me that year and he said they looked like either Ron or Danny Turner?

Thanks. #72 is not one of the Turners. Danny was #37 and Ron was #43 that year.
The media guides don't really have any info that might help ID our mystery man.

phil crane
Definitely not Magoo. He was #63 on a Maico in the same race as the #72 endo pic.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll try to research it further.
I think that's Pat Jacobson that you're talking about. Really sad what happened to him. IIRC he was signed mid season because another rider (Myerscough or Barnett ?) got injured and broke his back in his very first race as a factory rider.

And I'm about 99% sure that's your guy....but then I've slept a few nights since then.

I never heard of John Hess either until now. If he's Randy Hess, why would he use 2 different names or is it just a typo ?
Here's a picture of Randy :

I was going to say Jeff Jennings but I think his number was much higher....maybe it's John "Randall" Hess AKA Randy Hess. Never ever heard of a John Hess.
If you said he was a NorCal guy, I might of said Brian Jodry cause he rode RM's. Didn't he win like the support class when Ellis won the main on the Can Am in L.A. SX in 1976? I was there, but don't remember, but know Brian was up front or towards the front. I would've said Phil Crane too and seemed Magoo got off that 250 KTM and went to the 125 class on a Suzuki after Hangtown or it may have been 1977 season when Wardy did his first on ths RM and Magoo was also on the RM. Waay cool mind stimulation.
I know Dan Turner was #39 when he had that factory Yam ride. Dave Eropkin was a SoCallie.
One of the old North Dirt Diggers asked who won the most motos as an expert AND Pro during his career. Anyone know? He gave me the answer he says he knows it was, but said he won over 700 expert/Pro motos. Any takers.
"Radical" Ron Turner
No doubt Rad Ron won tons of races...
I bet the next guess will be right; from what the DD tells me.
