Could there ever be a real World Champion?

Actually get all the best riders American and Europeans together and fight it out for the best MXer on the Plant!

Well I think wi'll have to keep dreaming of the day, maybe the purse or status needs to be bigger?

Personally, I would love to see a real world championship in moto, something similar to Moto GP. I have been to nationals, sx's, ex's, mini moto races, and nothing comes close to the atmosphere of the Moto GP the last few years. You truly have the best riders on the best bikes in the world. Moto needs something like that.

I think MotoGP as a true world championship is a bad example, how is it anymore legit than World SBK? The MotoGP riders switching to that series have struggled just to win a single race. Not to mention MotoGP only has 17 bikes on the grid. There have been times this year where there are fewer finishers than points scoring positions, lame.

And like mentioned before, how can you consider the GPs a world championship when they don't even have a US round? Plus most every top flight GP racer wants to come here, and when they do make it they want to stay. What does that say about the GPs?

It's obvious to anyone with a brain that the motocross GP's are only a world championship in name and name alone.

Three reasons:

-They very seldom get out of Europe, and certainly not often enough to say they race "all over the world" as a true world championship should. If they were to concider themselves a true world championship they'd have to visit USA, Austrialia, Brazil, S. Africa, Japan, New Zealand, Canda, Mexico, Russia, and Utah (pfft) in addition to the European rounds, EVERY year.

-They don't attract the best talent in the world (Rattray, Pourcel, Searle, soon Carrolli...and that'ts just this year).

-They don't have the most money, or the most facotory support, and thus they have less prestige.

At best they should call themselves a "european championship", drop the two rounds a year outside of Europe (the teams could stand to save the money) and just call themselves the European Championship series.

Unfortunatly, there isn't a true world championship in motocross.

But given the native country of many of the riders Racing in America, that's saying something...S. Africa (Rattray and Grant Langston), New Zealan (BT), Austrailia (Reardon, Reed, Metcalf, Byrne), England (Searle), France (Pourcel), Wheres the guy from that finished 3rd first moto at the "shug? Belgium??? Balbi is from Brazil, and I could go on...pretty diverse group of racers for an..ahem..."national" championship.

You ever been to a Moto GP? I don't think you can discredit the talent in that series and my bet would be that the goal of WBSK riders would be to get to race Moto GP. Anyway, that is my observation. Honestly, I think you are a bit ignorant concerning Moto GP. Just my hunch. Now, is it always perfect? No. No series is. Moto GP is the sh*t.

Besides, if there was a better series, you don't think Rossi and those guys would make that jump? You ever seen Rossi ride a bike? I have seen him lay it over, feet off the pegs and still, somehow, ride out.

As Titan was saying without actually saying it, we do have a true world champion. Last year it was James Stewart this year it is likely to be Chad Reed and before that it was RC. With rare exception the truly gifted/fast riders from the "world championship GP's" come here to race as soon as they can. Sorry but it is what it is.

I never understood why Stefan never came over and tried his hand at the Nationals. I mean, he had a pretty good thing going in Europe but still... I think he knew where he would have been finishing.

Primarily second place to RC! That doesn't look so good when you're used to winning everything. No disrespect to Stefan and I don't blame him one bit for staying put. Better to be THE fish in the pond than just another fish.

True, he was incredible at that race. But he got "bitchslapped" by Cairoli the year before on their turf. So what do you make of that?

And its champions choose to leave it to step up to racing in America.

That's the plain, hard, indisputable fact. Sometimes you can't change the facts to suit the argument.

Moto GP has the best riders and fastest bikes.

Many riders move up to MotoGP after winning a WSBK title or few only to get schooled for a year or two and move back down.

It certainly isn't perfect, but if you want to look at the best possible example of an elite world title, its motogp.

There is a true world champ and there usually is. Its the guy everyone respects as the fastest motherfugger on a dirt bike at any givin time. Once upon a time it was Roger and then Bob and RJ JMB Stanton MC RC JS. Right now the smart money would be on James love him or hate him. Personaly I'm not a fan and sure in the hell wouldnt bet against him.

like Everts, Philipaerts, Ramon, Bolley, Maschio, Cairoli, Smets, Bartolini...... ? C'mon lets face it, we all know why there will never be a true test of a fastest rider in the world - SX. Riders with a chance of SX success might trade a world title to move stateside, but not if they don't. Non US Outdoor only riders stay in World championships and the US riders + those SX hopefulls from GPs race stateside, its hard to see that dynamic ever being broken. Its a shame, the sport of MX would sureley be bigger if each and every one of the fastest riders competed in a single series. Dont think it will ever happen tho.
