First off, this season of MX has been amazing to watch and continues to get better! Tomac Sexton fight is coming down to the wire. Does ET3 ditch the scoop rear for the next round or continue to run it?

It's Ironman and a scoop will not be beneficial.

I think if Eli feels like the scoop will benefit his starts, he’ll run it. We saw this weekend what happens if he or Sexton don’t get a good start. They’ll both do whatever it takes to get the start

I think Ironman will not be a scoop tire for Eli... Just my opinion.

Starts don't seem to effect Sextons motos as much as finding the ground does.

Expect him to use the scoop. The dirt is already soft and they will be adding considerable saw dust.

I also expect him to use the scoop. With the start being what it is at Ironman, I think he’ll give himself every opportunity to nail a couple good starts

Scoop for sure, then probably back to the MX33 for Pala.

Ignore it… there’s a few on here that only know how to hit the downvote button ! There should be an option to turn it off.

Embrace the downvotes. Eventually you will have a hater fan club that follows you around and downvotes everything you post. I have several of them. It's pretty cool.

I love it when people downvote my posts because I find joy in their negativity. Downvotes on vital don’t mean you’re wrong. Just that someone is butthurt about your opinion.

I was no on the scoop... But just for fun, I went back and re-watched a few years of races there and I don't know. The sand rollers are there, but there are some seriously hard packed areas too. I think it would be a disadvantage on a lot of the track. I guess we'll find out...

It depends. Sometimes Ironman is ripped really deep but last year it was hard and slick. If Tomac runs the scoop at Pala, I’ll really scratch my head.

Again, depends entirely on the start. If he thinks it will help get a top 3 start, 100% he’ll use the scoop. I’m certain he’s willing to trade performance on parts of the track for starts

A little OT, but I rode redbud last weekend. First time in quite a long time (we’ll over 10 years). Obviously the scoop’s are pretty popular there for good reason with how deep and how much water they soak the track with. I was running a fresh mx32 and it felt almost useless on over half the track.

Blows my mind what Scoops and 450’s do to the track. 4 moto’s in and the ruts are deeper than I can ever remember them being. Won’t be going back without one.

Exactly... I can't see it at all at Pala. I think it's even possible that he runs it in the first moto but not the second at Ironman. It really depends how hard packed it is.

I don't completely agree with this... he now knows how much handicap it is if he doesn't start up front. There is no 'beastmode" running the scoop on the wrong surface, he found that out in moto 2 last week.

There was crazy ruts before Henry Hill after only the A and B group first qualifying sessions at Budds Creek. I couldn't believe there were ruts at 8am lol

That’s fair. I really doubt this championship is going to come down to his choice of rear tire though

I choose my 33 over a scoop at red bud. I'm NOT a fan of scoops anywhere but super deep endless sand. The bottom of the ruts at red bud get hard, so I feel like the 33 is even better in corners. Really only up the the monza wall and corner after the leap is where the sand tire might be ok for me at red bud. 33 ripped me some good starts too!

I once rode an 11 on a track here in Ohio with hard jump faces. I felt like I could die at any moment. It was at that point I decided against scoops unless in the dunes. I'll even run a 33 at Baja if I go back. No idea how Eli does it.

I'll do still think that rear tire choice was a mistake in moto 2 considering how the track developed. The track was a typical mid soft hard pack Budds creek in moto 1 but moto 2 it was just hard pack everywhere and his bike was bouncing all over the place. It didn't work very well for Cairoli either.

I think he’ll probably run a scoop at both races. He ran a scoop at Pala 1 this year. I vaguely remember someone saying the dirt at Pala has become more of a silt than typical Cali hardpack.

The new MX14 scoop has a much broader range than the 11 or 12 had. I’m sure what he has is even better than the off the shelf 14.
