According to Burkeen, MXSports officials are an arm of the AMA. MXSports inserted themselves in the situation and they can't just back out when it's convenient for them.
First of all, this is not news. Nor uncommon. Nor avoidable given their management of this event.

So how did this get "octupied." Not just should have been handled differently and better (which just about everyone admits), but how and why was this outcome deliberately skewed to its outcome. By Davey. I'd like to see a deliberate factual explanation of this that displays some sound critical thinking, rather than these side shots that try to imply perfidy without the dignity of playing the cards. That explanation would have to have a factual explanation why MXSports dictated this outcome intentionally, because that's what the "occupi" defamation implies. It's weak and lazy.

You'd have to live under rock not to know Davey and his family's deep history in this sport, which is a sport built on a webb of relationships from day one. The sport would have died a long time ago without those relationships given its small size and intimacy. Someone is going to have to do better than tossing out catchphrase for men to be convinced why Davey's history as a journalist, publisher, promoter, AMA official and I believe board member at one time, has been a detriment to American motocross.

And when deploying that weak catchphrase, recall that it was coined and used to disparage Davey and his group to the benefit of Youthstream's attempt to take over US motocross when Davey's group worked with Daytona Motorsports group to counterbid. Context, and facts, matter.

I think the kids assertion that Yamaha threatened his dealer was wrong to say or insinuate because thats pretty serious stuff and it wasn't proven and denied by even the dealer. I def wanted to get that part out because if Yamaha did do that, that's effed IMO. I was pretty sure they didn't and it seems they did not.

I think saying Tim Cotter (who works for Racer X's sister company) should never have put the kid in a room, I'm on RXI's payroll, would I say that if I wanted to "build my empire"?

The great part of America is we can agree to disagree. Have a good day!

I realize you were not asking me, but the "nail in the coffin" was the dealer talking to the Dad. The Dad then showed up and told Brennan it was over and to remove the claim. The dealer says he was not threatened by anyone, nor was he contacted by Yamaha USA or Yamaha Canada. That's the only statement he put out. Nobody knows what the dealer actually told the Dad, but I would suggest something like "This is not a good look for my shop and our name is all over your bikes and has been for a long time as I have been giving your son free bikes to ride. Claiming another riders bike will be a reflection of me and I would appreciate it if you would not do this".

So if you get to suggest:

"This is not a good look for my shop and our name is all over your bikes and has been for a long time as I have been giving your son free bikes to ride. Claiming another riders bike will be a reflection of me and I would appreciate it if you would not do this".

I can then suggest:

"This thing has gotten out of hand, that guy sitting down there with your son is Dave Luce, the head of Yamaha amateur sports. He has already told Matt this thing is going away, or I could possibly feel some heat from this. I support your son all I can and will into the future we just need this to go away for the sake of my dealership and ability to provide those bikes."

See how that works.

You say if the kid should have gotten the bike and that this never would have been a problem if Deegan and the team just gave it up like they were supposed to. A Yamaha employee is directly involved in this, and is on record saying after he knew the kid wouldn't change his mind, he offered 2 free motors and a ride day at the goat farm.
What's wrong with the kid and the dad deciding that they'll heed their friends advice (Walker, dealer), take the motors and drop the claim?

I do see how that works and that's the same thing. Your example is a supporter giving advice to a rider and his dad that is also a reflection of him and his business/livelihood. What you wrote is almost exactly the same as my example so not sure what you are getting at.

Steve, do you not see how we all think you were easy on Donny? Listen back, you were feeding him softballs and basically answering for him. Do you not see that, serious question.

Multiple facets of that statement are 'wrong', why did Yamaha feel that they needed to offer some motors to stop the kid from claiming the bike? Are bribes now considered 'advice'? Why did Walker and the Dealer get involved in sharing this advice in the first place?

Yamaha is represented by Donny Luce in this situation.

Yeah, at that point they worked with the kid closely for years and were not in favor of him making that claim. Friends, yes. Matt didn't threaten him, According to Brennan, Matt said he shouldn't do it, it would hurt his career, etc...that's not "threatening" him.

Yamaha is represented by Donny Luce in this situation.
The reason the people he works closely with get involved, is just like your friends would offer you advice on jumping a triple or buying a new truck. Doesn't mean kid has to take the advice. How can you see anything wrong with that? No one threatened the kid with violence or tied him up, it was advice to a friend.

Yamaha (Donnie) wanted to appease their partner (Star) and their number one amateur rider (Deegan), you say bribe, I say offer. Bribe, whatever- the dad and the kid took it. What's wrong with this? He could've kept the claim up regardless, I mean after meeting with AMA, Cotter and Deegan and Deegan giving him heat, he still kept the claim up.

So you know he wasn't intimidated at this point by someone he didn't know and had "beef" with, why would he be scared of his dealer that supports him and a guy who he rode at his facility for three years?

Problem is the "kid" did not want to drop the claim for "the motors". He DID NOT want to drop the claim but was pretty much forced to if he wanted to continue to have his bikes, which were taken away from him anyway after the fact.

Damn dude, Maybe you should put one of those cigarette pack style warning labels on your show for a disclaimer about being totally in the industry's pocket and your opinions are based on who's ass you are kissing!

It sucks to see people saying Donnie should be fired, I know this has been hard on him. Maybe I had some empathy for him? I did not feel I was answering for him. Agree to disagree.

No doubt everyone would craft the scene differently, but if left unsaid in fact a blacklisting among a fair few is what would have happen unless this kid has National podium potential. There are enough asks being made of suppliers that it's easy check. I'll leave to others to debate whether someone with that potential would be claiming a bike. The kid clearly has skill to be competing at that amateur level.

Maybe pop believes his kid has that potential and is grateful someone alerted him. Maybe he realized this is as good as it gets. Maybe he was gutless, which is what the coercion implies, that he could not say no. I suspect he's a rational adult who weighed the options and felt he got a better deal. That's not coercion, that's bargaining from leverage.

Steve, use your head. The first interview the kid gave he said he wouldn’t even repeat what Matt said it was so bad. Then threatening his engine builder etc….Again, if Yamaha didn’t actually lean on the dealership there is no reason Donnie would have been inserted in to all this. You have Deegan, Potter, Walker and Yamaha trying to talk the kid out of it and he wasn’t budging. Then Chris the dealer takes the kid in a room and comes out and drops the claim?? C’mon man! We all know what happened in that chat without knowing what happened in that chat. It’s also the reason the dealer isn’t talking to anyone. He knows not to say anything. You know it just as the rest of us know it.

You believe the dealer, I don't. You believe Luce, I don't. I believe the kid has more credibility than both, you obviously don't. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

But what if the dad told me that it was a deal to get motors to drop the claim? Not the minor, but the parent in this decided that deal was good enough to drop the claim?

Because he did.

Yeah, at that point they worked with the kid closely for years and were not in favor of him making that claim. Friends, yes. Matt didn't threaten him, According to Brennan, Matt said he shouldn't do it, it would hurt his career, etc...that's not "threatening" him.
It's perspective and symantecs Steve. From the kids pov... Walker yelling and cursing probably seemed threatening. From Walkers pov...he was being passionate. Don't you have some work to do?Silly

Do you think that Brennan would have listened to his friends' advice had he not received the 'offer'?

Do you believe this is an honest way to go about this from Donny's side? To appease Star and Deegan by floating an 'offer' to someone that was going to make their life slightly difficult due to a rule in the rulebook?

Dude. The only difference is your quote is insinuating pressure from Yamaha to the dealer, which the dealer stated never happened. What are you getting at?? Donnie and the dealer said the same thing. Dealer pulled Dad aside and had a private conversation that resulted in Dad returning saying they were rescinding the claim. This really isn't that hard. It is super clear from all parties the Dealer is the reason the claim was removed.....simple as that.....and then Brennan decided to blast this all over You Tube and the dealer pulled his support anyway....likely due to that which is now an even worse look if you own that business due to all of this "publicity".

What has the kid said I don't believe? He is saying the dealer talked to his Dad and then it was over. He assumed Yamaha put pressure on the dealer, but just assumed that without any actual knowledge that happened. They made a deal to accept the motors and that was it unless I am missing something from one of Brennans interviews,

"if Yamaha didn’t actually lean on the dealership there is no reason Donnie would have been inserted in to all this."

Donnie got involved because their partner Star, and their number one amateur rider Deegan, didn't want the bike to be claimed. Makes sense yeah?

Motor builder doesn't matter in this, maybe him and Matt hate each other- whatever. That's not relevant to this situation.

"Then Chris the dealer takes the kid in a room and comes out and drops the claim??"[/b]

Chris the dealer did not take anyone into a room, Chris pulled the dad aside to talk about this.

The dad took the motors and some more stuff from Yamaha to drop the claim, he told me this- what's wrong with that?

What's dishonest about offering some incentive for dropping the claim? He wasn't forced to take it, tied up, beaten, the dad asked, Yamaha offered and they went on their way.

I still would've held out for the bike tho!

lol at you guys arguing about the AMA/Deegan/Cotter in the trailer.

If you've watched all the interviews, nobody involved (to include Brennan) is claiming there was a problem with anything that took place during that initial interaction, or the Deegan "meeting" for that matter. In hindsight, it certainly has the look of impropriety, but nobody is claiming that anything nefarious occured.

Where this went sideways was clearly at Matt Walkers (Trainer) trailer with Donnie (Yamaha), and Chris (Sponsor). I think that's fairly obvious if you've actually sat down and watched everyone's account.

I agree with this totally, only thing I will say is, they sure pointed out there mishap with a minor thing and were awfully quick to write that into the rule book for the future! They got that shit on paper and filed as fast as they could to cover ground for a reason.
