Stupid question probably (for Americans) but Black Book AMA Official Motorcycle Value Guide, Kelly Blue Book... Where do I find that? The rules are as clear as day, but because Brennan withdraw his claim, there won't be a 1-year suspension. That suspension is that by the way for amateur events only or all AMA events?

I have never said a thing about Matthes ever before in my life aside from I dig some of his stuff.

This situation has proven he is a tool.

His whole "kid says there were only 2 people in the room but there were actually 3 people" bitch fest is so petty. I assume he has never heard the term "selective attention."

The discrepancies between his interviews on pulp mx show vs ML's interviews are shocking. I don't need to rehash the inconsistency of the people he is choosing to side with on this. Let's just say the majority of inconsistency does not come from the side of the 17 year old.

The "2-3" person thing is a very big deal. The kid specifically said it was just Deegan and Cotter, neither of which represent the AMA....where the...
The "2-3" person thing is a very big deal. The kid specifically said it was just Deegan and Cotter, neither of which represent the AMA....where the actual truth was an AMA official was there the whole time. That is much different than just a 3rd dude in there getting coffee.

I guess you have never heard of selective attention. Look it up. You would be very surprised what people may or may not notice in situations of intense focus/stress.

Was the AMA official standing right next to Deegan and Cotter or off to the side? I really don't know. Do you know where every person was located during the meeting? If you do, spill the beans as that could change things.

The point is most of the inconsistencies have come from the side Matthes is siding with.
So does that mean that the AMA official wasn’t in the room…

I agree with Steve. The kid's story is falling apart, specifically about not having an official in the room with him and the dealer being threatened by Yamaha. He is either being dishonest or has amnesia.

Again, and regardless of all of it, he should have the bike and none of the other garbage should have happened to begin with. Don't underestimate the naivety of a 17 year old and all of this coming at him from these adults and their jacked up actions resulted in him rescinding the claim. Thats unfortunate and I still cannot figure out where his Dad was for these several hours.

Cotter should be gone and MX Sports should be ashamed of the way their representative handled this.
The AMA has off course nothing to gain by lying. Because it looked so good that they left a minor alone in a room together with a crazy billionaire mini-dad and a guy who acted like he was AMA but was MX-Sport. No the AMA has nothing to gain by saying: "We where there the whole time, we didn't left Brennan hanging between the sharks! We are the AMA we are there for everyone!"

About the Yamaha dealer also, he off course has nothing to gain by lying. Oh maybe he has, what color of bikes is he selling? What brand makes his dealership successful? Choosing between a 17 year old who never gonna make it, who only costs you money due to the sponsorship or showing the Blue Yamaha family some loyalty by dumping Brennan and telling Micheal Lindsay (not in a zoom but in a short text) I'm not pressured. Was he scared that his face would show his anger about what happen and the betray what has happened, that he choose for a text?!

lol at you guys arguing about the AMA/Deegan/Cotter in the trailer.

If you've watched all the interviews, nobody involved (to include Brennan) is claiming there was a problem with anything that took place during that initial interaction, or the Deegan "meeting" for that matter. In hindsight, it certainly has the look of impropriety, but nobody is claiming that anything nefarious occured.

Where this went sideways was clearly at Matt Walkers (Trainer) trailer with Donnie (Yamaha), and Chris (Sponsor). I think that's fairly obvious if you've actually sat down and watched everyone's account.

I think the dealer (Chris) has nothing to gain so a statement that was simple and to the point leaves no room for error. If he did a full interview, it would have nothing but downside for his business. He has all the skin in the game where a 17 year old kid has snapchat to worry about.

At what point does Yamaha call Matthes and say please shut up you are making it worse.

At every step of the way the adults look like children.

Has it every occurred to you that Walker OR the dealer Chris himself told him they were being threatened and are now lying about it saying that Yamaha didn’t threaten them?

The kid was ADAMANT about getting that bike through ALL of it. Then his dealer takes him aside and he all of sudden drops the claim??? THiS tells you that his dealer threatened him because the dealer was threatened by Yamaha. While Donnie Luce might not have the firepower to pull Yamahas off the showroom floor, Donnie’s boss might. I’m positive Donnie had to call someone above him to let them know what was going on and get advised on how to handle it.

New interview with Brennan https://youtu.be/bztoQI_ZajA
Also
1. Make the person claiming the bike anonymous AMA should only tell them we verified it’s a competitor you only find out when they take possession of the bike
2. Absolutely star and Yamaha had a hand in this kid rescinding his claim
3. Good job JT last night the only one with any sense and that’s hard for me to say
4. Rules are rules
5. Lost respect for pulp and keefer in the last 24 hours
6. Gained respect for ML in 24 hours

This whole discussion about how many were in the room, the kids story being deconstructed is total BS! He showed up to claim the bike , with the money as per the rule. The only thing for deegan to do at that point was show up with the bike and title, in good faith, which they obviously did not do. They had NO intentions of letting that bike go to the kid. So all this other talk with different people should have never happened! You don’t think they “strong armed” the kid, your delusional! Personally as a father to 15 and 17 yo racers I’m disgusted first with AMA for even letting it go as far as talking to the kid without an adult present in a closed room. I’m sure someone there w the AMA can read the rule as it’s written in their rule book! As for matthes, I’m a long time pulp listener, but his obvious spin attempts were sickening! Ya blucru bro! What an asshole!

I am probably going to regret posting in this thread, but a couple of things. How is the AMA supposed to make sure no one talks to this kid for 24 hours after he does the claim and leaves our office? Are we supposed to put a chaperone on him and make sure no one approaches him? Second, if the kid changes his mind and comes back and tells us it’s his decision to change his mind am I supposed to badger him into going forward with it? At that point it’s completely out of my hands.
Third, there are about five or six people there who are considered officials of the event and Tim is one of them. If you think only the AMA should be involved in a claim, what do we do at the hundreds and hundreds of races that I’m not at? Because at this point I’m the only person who works for the AMA Motocross.

Don't make things more simple than they have to be there bud. Evil

There are so many obvious solutions to this. Your idea *would work. Also, money changes hands, deal done, nothing more can be done. No take backs, makes everyone think about the situation before anyone does anything. For good or bad.

Too bad AMA can't come up with valid rules.

EDIT: I also think there needs to be a clause about adult vs kids/children being able to claim.

The fact that SlowOldGuy let this meeting happen with a minor and no adult supervision is perplexing to me. He stated he was in the meeting and knew his dad wasn't available. Shame.

You’re going to feel really stupid for saying this when you see the rule for 2023. We had our Motocross commission meeting tonight and both of those items are going to be in the rule for 2023. Anonymity, and the transaction is final when the money changes hands with the contract signed. Also it will be added that you have to be 18 or have a parent with you or legal guardian to do a claim. So I have a little faith in me, I’m not the bad guy. Remember this has only happened four other times in history and not for the last 18 years And never with a Moto left a ride so we are going through a little bit of a learning process

You said it yourself in your interview. You were ill prepared and made some poor decisions. Get working on those forms with legal to cover your exposures instead of posting on here for solicited responses. You really need a continuity plan for these issues and follow it. You own the process. The kid is the victim.

Could be worse in my eyes. You could be one of the other parties in this that have demonstrated integrity issues with their internal bromance strongarming a minor.

Go fix your shit and own it.

Not anonymous. Need to know, confidential . Nobody needed to know but the AMA person that received and accepted the claim. I’m OK with Cotter being that one person since he is also an AMA official and came across as a career hardworking honest guy. His mistake(s) were facilitating the meeting with Deegan (who didn’t need to know the claimant) which both allowed Deegan to know who it was, but apply pressure during and after the meeting.

This is phenomenal news. If some actual positives come out of this event, that is the best outcome. Taking Lessons Learned and then implementing improvements going forward.
Congrats to you and your team! Seriously, I know this topic/event has been very emotionally charged, but congrats and respect for taking real action !!

Why would I feel stupid? In fact, I am happy that is the case.

You are finally making progress after a situation that forced you to do so. Also, anti blackball rules should be put into place. You smart guys figure out how to do that. EDIT - I know this is impossible, just saying. The claim rule should be accessible to all qualified with no ramifications as it is a RULE!!

I gotta say, in the "cast of characters" in this shitshow, I think you were the one who did it right. The rest of them are an embarrassment to the sport. Anyway, has anyone brought up the notion that the AMA didnt have the athority to undo the claim? Wasn't the claim done? And you guys were holding Brennan's bike, to be released to him the following day? It was his property. How did it become "not his property"? Did he sell it back to star and the AMA was the broker for the sale? Some fancy contract lawyer might be able to argue that it wasnt actually in the rule book for what occurred when he got his 17k back, so he just got handed $17k and he still owns the motorcycle. Dunno, just seeing if anything might stick

Quick question.....you are saying Tim is an AMA official? He is an official AND the promotor? Maybe not the best plan if thats accurate.

Could be they conspired and coordinated their stories. Unlikely, but could happen.

You really do seem like a good guy. I think all most of us want to hear is that you think mistakes were made and that things could be better. Like letting a non official into a room with the claimant.

Really happy to hear y’all are making changes for the better and not watering down the rules to protect the elite. Thank you for posting here and doing what you do.

You mean highly likely. It’s the only thing that makes sense. You have Icon Brian Deegan, Potter, Donnie Luce of Yamaha, Matt Walker his coach and former Factory rider all grilling this kid not making a dent in changing his mind. Then this Yamaha dealer Chris gets him to resend the claim in 5 min?? C’mon man. You know exactly what happened.

I have no idea exactly what happened, but I hope somehow it comes out overall, but it won't.

Seems to me Like Chris the dealer wanted nothing to do with this claim and leaned on Brennan and his dad.

The only thing up for debate as I see it is Brennan lying about the Dealer telling him the call came down from Yamaha. Or did the Dealer tell him that to put extra pressure.

Am I missing something?

After watching that Matthes can add himself to the list of Grown ups who have behaved disgracefully. He’s clearly deflecting the behaviour of some people by highlighting retelling inaccuracies of others.. From what I listened to there’s more holes in where everyone else was when they got the news. Does Matthes think that the kids sponsor and Luce ended up in Matt walkers place by accident. Whole thing stinks to high heaven and now one of mx USA top journalist is joining in the corporate cronyism. “The kid should have the bike but he’s a liar and everyone else is golden”. What a tool bag
