In the post race press conference, he said that they swapped engines between motos and it felt like the engine was seizing. He said it happened on a jump so he backed off for a few laps. After a few laps of it not blowing up, he figured the engine was okay as it would have let go by that point, so he picked the pace back up.

If you start around 5:12 he talks about it .

I bet a rock made the rear break grab and he thought the feeling was coming from the engine in the moment.

There were a few shots on the feed where I saw his back wheel lock up but his foot wasn’t on the rear brake. Perhaps there was something lodged in his rear caliper that was causing the brake to grab all the time.

Yeah I’ve been wondering about this too. Before the mechanical issue the win was his.
After hearing that, the rock in the brake sounds logical. Poor dude has been so close yet so far away.

For sure, still blazing fast and an awesome style and technique, but it always seems to be one little thing which trips him up or keeps him out of it, it's a shame.
