Hey guys, I got hit last Thursday night at our home shop. I am 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile off the road in any direction. They walked about 3/4 of a mile through a soy bean field and pry barred my walk in door open, opened the garage door and rolled out 5 bikes. Left one laying in the back yard so they got away with 4.

They got the following bikes;

2020 YZ450F
2108 KTM 450 SX-F FE with Dal Saggio Sphere's. Lots of custom parts on this bike
2008 CRF 450F
2009 KX100 big wheel. (blue powder coated frame)

All bikes have some very custom parts on/in them. I could easily identify even if vin is removed.

I thought we were far enough off the road and I "THOUGHT" my shop was secure enough...

I had another bike in the shop that luckily I had loaned the rear wheel to a friend, so they left it on the stand.

Even the officer noted that it might not be a bad idea to start removing a wheel from each bike and storing them in a different location. Just a suggestion if you are in an area prone to theft....

It is a sickening feeling guys! Keep your stuff private and on lockdown....

I have had bikes for sale on Facebook, not these particular bikes but others. Not sure if it was a hit from facebook or, what I think, someone in our moto community is behind these thefts as many racers in our area have been hit lately.

That's savage, I know it's unfortunately unlikely but I hope they find these scumbags or at least your bikes.

Especially sucks on the KX 100 too, only thing lower than stealing bikes is stealing kids bikes.

Worse feeling in the world going through this.

I lock my garage door with a pad lock and use a Pewag chain. Take a look at them. Pretty impressive. only way to really cut the chain is with an angle grinder and lots of time. I also lagged a plate to the concrete floor in my garage.

Can we get the last 4 numbers of the vin? I live close to you and will check numbers every chance I get.

Worth it 100% to get comprehensive insurance. I pay $320 a year for 3 bikes through Progressive. 1 dirtbike and 2 streetbikes. Maybe your homeowner's insurance will step in?

You're welcome. I won't go a day without insurance. Homeowner's, auto, motorcycle, health. Totally worth it and has saved my ass from financial ruin a couple times.

That sucks man.

I support doing what the middle east countries do to thieves. 1st offense, you cut a hand off. 2nd offense...the other hand. You don't see too many 1st time offenders and nearly zero 2nd offenders

It would put an end to what is happening in this country real quick.

Marketplace is how they find you. I know of several people who've listed their bikes on Marketplace and within a day or two it's stolen or attempted. Pretty easy to figure out your name & location with FB. I use it, but I list the bike in a zip code 5 counties over and only when I've spoken with the potential buyer by phone do I share the real location.

I have all my stuff that’s over 6000 covered. But also I got an umbrella policy for my track. It’s pretty cheap. 400 a year for 1.5m and it’s if anything happens on your property or something you have done. Car accidents and trampoline. Anything. Since a good percentage of you guys have tracks

100% on board with this. I got hit hard Thursday, July 21st and lost more than this. Might start a thread about it in the near future. I'm still dealing with it and its raw still.

Sorry about your bikes…. I have all the front wheels removed from my bikes in storage at another location…. Pita. Yes… if someone is going to steal them, they will be working for it…

Yes I had insurance but they are going to only pay their calculated ACV. 4-5k worth of goodies on the KTM only, will still be a big hit. I am thankful thought, something is better than nothing....

I have had 4 bikes stolen previously. 1 stolen off a trailer and 3 from a storage unit. I agree with the locks, etc. Also, not having a wheel on them when in storage (I had a 4th bike in the storage unit not stolen as I had the wheel off). That said, insurance is the best option on top of security. I have Progressive for the dirt bikes and it is low cost ($200 / yr). With these policies, I have extra coverage to account for added aftermarket parts. I also have insurance through Hagerty for a Kramer roadracing bike that I could not cover through Progressive. With Hagerty, it is insurance for a given $ amount of value, so I don't have to worry about what I would get in the event of a loss given how rare the Kramer is and the potential debate about value.
