Finally wore out my old Polar M400 and am in need of a new fitness watch. I'd like to stick with another Polar product if possible. I'm not a runner and will use the watch primarily for moto and mountain biking, with occasional road biking and hiking thrown into the mix. I would also like the ability to sync the watch with my iphone to see who's calling or texting. Beyond the aforementioned, any other features would be considered fluff. What Polar product are you moto, off road and mountain bike guy's using? I'm not totally married to Polar, so am open to other suggestions, but would prefer Polar if possible.

If you're really deadset with sticking with Polar I'd look into the grit series or M2. That being said I'm a Garmin guy myself, I currently have the Venu, but when it's time for a new one I'm getting the 945. I did a bit or research before getting my watch and it really just came down to that I like what the Garmin app has to offer more. You can also sync your Garmin with LitPro and collect lap time data and such.

The Vantage M2 would be your best bet. You can download the motocross profile and use that when recording motos. You can also sync the lit pro app to the polar flow app and it will pull the info and display lap times.

The M2 you can control your phones music aswell as get notifications of texts, calls, etc and it will show from who

Email me at info@viralmoto.com if you have any questions or if you want to order a Polar watch I can try and get you a a little bit better deal on one as I’m an authorized dealer.

Thanks

I like my vantage M a lot, will probably upgrade to an M2 before long. Run it with a chest strap, I wanna say mine is like an H10? So you can put the watch on the bars, I know I don’t like shit on my wrists when I ride

Polar have made themselves attractive to the mx fraternity by including a ‘Motocross profile’

Truth is, If you have a Garmin you can create your own ‘Motocross profile’

I have done on my Garmin Fenix 6 pro. I’ve created profiles for MX, green-laning, motorcycle trials, cyclocross on top of the ‘usual’ profiles they have already installed.

You can choose your activity and any metric you are interested in. HR, Speed, Elevation, steps, distance, basically anything you want to know.

The point I’m making is don’t let ‘motocross profile’ be the selling point.

I love my Vantage M. Polar listens to their customers and they just updated their sport profiles to include Enduro, Hard Enduro and Moto.

The "motocross" profile does not work with LitPro, still need to use the "Mountain Biking" profile.

Still using my Vantage M, has been great, I'm sure the M2 is even better

I would really recommend the Garmin watches, just for the information eco-system they have. We like the Fenix series, and you can pick up Fenix 5 Sapphires refurbished on Amazon for ~$300. I'm not familiar with Polar, but Garmin has a great interface to track sleep, respiration rate, etc. We also golf and they work amazing for that as well. We use LitPro with the entire team and when we ride together everyone automatically sees each other's lap times. It's almost priceless for training, as it really helps everyone push, even without a similar paced rider near you.
We just use the "Bike" profile with Garmin and it works great. I will have to look into creating a custom "Moto" profile.

Will it or any polar or other brand mate with a Whoop for the HR monitoring?

I've been a Garmin guy for ~10 years... have like 5 of their devices. Because of that, I have been resistant to change, not wanting to use yet another app, create another profile, etc.....

That being said, some things.... garmin wrist HR sucks. Flaky as hell. Drops data all the time. From what I understand basically every other brand uses a 3d party wrist HR sensor that actually works but garmin decided to do their own proprietary thing that sucks. Maybe that has changed in the last few years?

Garmin does not have a built-in lap-tracker for MX that actually works. Had to use the 3rd party Motosports app that sucked. Total hit or miss.

Garmin to Lit-Pro is sketchy at best. More miss than hit when it comes to tracking laps correctly. if it's a practice day and you are careful to enter end exit the track at the exact same spot, it usually will pick it up somewhat OK. But, guess what, MX races have a separate start lane on race day. So, my moto gets broken into about 99 different 10 second "laps", all fubar.

So, I've noticed that the Polar guy has actually posted here on Vital and Polar seems to give a crap about MX and actually trying to make the lap tracking "built in". Is that true? If that's true, and if the HR sensor actually works, I might consider doing a Polar and dealing with yet another app and profile, etc.

If it does not have not have to tell time, I would say look at the Whoop. I believe KR94 and a few other moto guys wear it. I have one and haven't taken it off in over 3 years. I won't be a full homer here, but most if its functionality has been scientifically and specific to their device, validated. If you are a data nerd or fitness dork, you will love this! They have all kinds of pod casts and well ness crap to help too. I am obviously a big fan and so I'll get off my soap box, but I have yet to find someone who gets one and doesn't get addicted...

Another vote for the vantage m2 here. The features make it a really good bang for your buck. I’ve had mine for about 6 months now, and while i was reluctant to go to a non-touch screen, I really enjoy it, and am happy I did. Being able to track moto specifically is a huge plus as well.

This is NOT a true statement, works fine every time for me on "Motocross" setting...I'm running the POLAR Vantage M2 with LitPro app on Motocross setting. Highly recommend, works great for all training aspects, including sleep monitoring in the POLAR app!

So the thing about the motocross setting is that it DIDN'T exist. And motocross people asked for it. Then it DID exist. So, if that's not a selling point for a product....I don't know what is.

I'm not going to fanboy too much, but I really like my Polar Vantage. I particularly like the Polar Flow app, which tracks your cardio workouts and more or less gives you a score. It's been unexpectedly life changing to have my cardio performance quantified and feel that I'm held accountable for keeping it up.

I definitely go to the gym more often just because I know I'll drop down into the dreaded "detraining" category if I skip...

Sorry I missed this post, Thank you to the current happy Polar riders who replied. Going forward, I think the Polar Pacer and a H9 transmitter is a great bang for the buck.

Can you connect a Polar H9 Transmitter with Strava Phone app? I guess what does the watch provide that a phone cannot? Just got into cycling so I too am in the market, mainly for heart rate.

I have a Garmin 235 I use with litpro . While it does record laptimes it only has distance settings which I set to 1 mile . I don't know how to make it work with actual 1 full lap times . Maybe it's too old . I'm thinking of going polar m for that reason alone . My buddy has that watch and his works flawlessly. I might go with the older m vs m2 because of cost as the 235 works great elsewhere. Any recommendations are appreciated

@crt32 Yes you can use the H9 to a phone, and it will be Strava specific, whereas the watch will record your training, cardio load, sleep and lots more. The H9 sends one Bluetooth signal, so it would dedicated to your phone and that is OK. If you purchase a Polar watch, you will want the H10 transmitter which send two Bluetooth signals, one to the watch and the other to the watch.

@MX558 The Polar watches have an AUTOLAP feature and an option is LOCATION-BASED. When you start your watch, likely on the track and not in the pits, every time you pass that spot, it will register a lap. Remember, I do not ride, but this might be easier and safer if the Polar watch is mounted on the bars versus your wrist, plus it protects the watch if you dump the bike. In some photo galleries, you may notice our products on the bars. Look under the U on BAMBAM's bars.

I have the M2 and I really like it. Its performed great so far, comfortable and easy to use over the last month. Only thing I have a issue with that I will update my thread on is the calorie counter. Seems to be over estimating by very roughly 10-15%. It will take me a couple more months to dial that into a more accurate number. But that is literally the only negative I can find
GPS, laps, timing and the detail in showing what lines you took are great for 300.00.

Hi moto162,
Thank you for training with Polar. See if the Summer heat is raising your avg HR or if your Training Load is higher so specific rides, this can impact your calories burned. If I do a 10K training run and it is hot and humid, all of my numbers are higher and my Running Index is lower. See if the numbers went higher on standard training rides or workouts.

Does a ‘Shagging’ profile exist on your Polar?

It doesn’t on my Fenix. But no problem, I’ll create one in less than five minutes!

The selling point being ANY profile, ANY can be added within minutes. If that’s not a great selling point, I don’t know what is..

Thanks . Do I have to set the end point also ? The Garmin has auto lap also but wasn't sure how to set it up , I'm old and not a tech wiz with these . I'll give Garmin on more chance tomorrow if that doesn't work I'm getting a polar . Thanks for the response .

I think I finally figured out the lap timer on my 235 . I turned on auto lap and set the distance to 99 miles . I went for short 5 mile bike ride , set the start point and when I got back it recorded everything with litpro with accurate lap . I'll try it tomorrow at the track
8/4/2022 6:18am
@MX558 Since you are doing laps on a practice track, most likely, the starting point is the end point. The issue would be if you were leaving from a starting gate. If you know the distance of the track, you can adjust auto lap to unique distance, like .37miles. Essentially you have two ways to set autolap, by distance or starting point that you pass numerous time.
