Cell service is great there on Verizon, I've used my hot spot to work while camped there a couple times.

That said, by Thursday afternoon of National weekend the towers are pretty overloaded, so don't expect great service from then until Sunday morning.

I found the best way to actually have a connection is to disable LTE on your phone and use 3G. Be able to watch live timing like that. If your phone allows it, that being said I know lots of companies are taking down their 3G service.

My first time as well. I'm pumped. Moved up to WA a few years ago and just finally getting to the national. I have a good excuse though, my wife was pregnant with our second when we moved up, and been hunkered down since then raising kiddos. Just found out one of the AVPs in Construction (I'm in Finance), who sits on my floor, a person I've talked to many times, is a moto head! He's been racing at Washougal since the 80s. He has a framed photo of him pulling a freakin hole shot! He also destroyed his foot (compound fracture, multiple plates) during a race at Washougal on his 50th birthday. He hit a bump, got off the back and whiskey throttled off a lip. Showed me the xray, pretty gnarly. Nice to have a new, and first, moto buddy at work.

Thinking about going for my first outdoor. Just moved up here and washougal has always been my favorite round to watch on tv. Is it possible to just show up and have a good time with a general admission ticket? Or is it kinda miserable if you don't find a good spot first before others? Would just be me and my wife.

No clue how outdoors operate as far as parking, or spectating go. Do I need to buy online to ensure the ticket or is buying at the gates an option? Do I need to bring food/water? Can I even?

You can have a great time with a general admission ticket. I would probably buy your ticket online ahead of time, but I believe you can buy them at the gate. They will have everyone that shows up on Saturday park in a field about 1/4 mile from the track. You will have to walk around a lot to see all of the track. You won’t be able to just sit in one spot and see everything. I’m pretty sure you can bring food/water. Just no alcohol.

Thanks for confirming! Definitely don't mind walking around as I really want to see each section in person anyway. I think the chance to see Eli race his last season is enough to go honestly. I need to see that outdoor speed up close for myself before he goes.

You are in for a treat. That place is awesome! Make sure you check the whole track out including way up top. It's likely that Eli will be riding like a man possessed so get ready to be seriously entertained!

Oh definitely! Horsepower hill is going to be so insane to see in person. One of my favorite memories was seeing James Stewart in 2005 Dallas win his first sx in that old stadium before they built Jerry world. The speed was mind blowing from the front section as he ran away from Carmichael every time he went past us.

I can only assume seeing Eli power wheelie up that hill is gonna give me chills.

What's the water situation like at the track? Is there a spot to go to fill up water bottles for free or? Thanks

Great info. Is the VIP ticket section worth it? Or just general admission and walk around the whole place. Coming in Thursday so I think we’ll watch PIR, do whatever on Friday and the national saturday

General and walk around. There are WAY too many places that you can't see from the VIP section. Stout shoes recommended - there's a few steep and rocky sections and every year I see someone in flipflops eat it.

Traffic inbound last year was the worst ever. Very long backups on the only route in on Saturday morning. I hope they do a better job managing that this time around. 2-3 hours on river road for some people.

Stay out of downtown Portland especially at night. Ever since they legalized all drugs it's a real problem. And if you do have to take an Uber and go to your destination right away and leave right away.

We went to our first national at Hangtown last year. I’ve been going to Supercross for forever but am new to attending nationals. We are traveling from Arizona to Washougal this year and have some questions from those that regularly attend. We are looking to camp there Wednesday. If we camp, are we able to park trackside and watch from the top of the trailer? Also, we are considering bringing our dogs. Are they allowed at the camp at washougal? Also is the vip pit pass worth it over the $25 one? From my understanding the only difference is getting a meal and two drink tickets plus a hole shot pass. Is that worth it or are there other perks?

Washougal is awesome!!! Just being there is an amazing experience, then add all the national fun on top of the natural beauty plus the friendly NW peeps and you'll have a great time. If you bring your dogs, they require you to tie them up at your pit and  no walking them into the infield at all. But plenty of room in the back fields to walk them away from the track. They have  some early early camping pass for like $200 that gets you in Monday. We've never done that and I doubt you'd get trackside anyway without some kind of inside connection. I wouldn't stress about getting trackside, the grounds are amazing! It's 600+ acres of prime Pacific Northwest forest and meadows. The giant fir trees are epic to camp under. The county requires them to have booze confiscating Nazi's at the gates so if you plan on smuggling booze in hide it really really good! FYI, we get booze in every year. Just be creative and sneaky Wink It's not cheap so be prepared for the cash vacuum but you're still gonna have fun and it's worth it in my opinion. If you can, head down to PIR Thursday night for the evening for the pro challenge, it's one of the biggest moto parties you'll experience with racing that is off the charts!!! Traveling privateers go and race hard for a chance at the large purse. The gates stay open all night back up at Washougal so you can get home late without fear of being locked out. The year before last I rolled in from PIR in my motorhome at 2:30am with 3 cases of beer hidden and cruised right on through.. My advice, Go! You won't regret it.

If we get a hotel Friday night and head to washougal Saturday morning, how early should we leave to avoid the ungodly traffic I keep reading about…

or would it be a lot easier to tent camp at wash Shugal that night?

I would guess 6-6:30 am. Were you able to get a hotel in Washougal? There may not be any available. You might have to go to PDX airport or Vancouver/Camas? We always stay at the track then sleep in and avoid all that nonsense. Same with leaving, we just hang out into the evening or just stay until Sunday morning.

You can really close to the track at Washougal, almost feels too close at times, it’s awesome! You’ll love it.

With that description, I’m debating on taking a road trip from the Midwest to check it out! Great little story
