Jo is awesome and every time I see him charging through the pack I always have the Jo Shimoda song in my head.

Watanabe won a moto at a Trans AMA event back in 1976. IIRC he tied Roger for the overall win, but lost out on time.

Same thig happened with Masuda at the USGP at Mid Ohio in 1977. Tied Rahier for the overall win, but took second on time.

Watanabe finished second on two or maybe three occasions. But he isn't registered as winner on memotocross.fr and that is mostly a very solid source!

Chuck is a born and raised American. Jo is a foreigner who came to the US to race, like Kenny, or the Lawrence brothers, etc. He only spoke English about as well as your typical high school graduate, just a year ago.
