Supercross Only Contracts and now World SX, the Nationals are likely going to take a hit. Yet the biggest amateur event at the moment is centered around a rough, hardly any jump outdoor track. Why? Why are parents spending thousands of dollars chasing the Loretta title when the real money appears to be in SX. So many fast amateurs never seem to adapt to SX and their careers are over before they even really get going. Wouldnt they be better off to start Little Johnny off on a tame SX track and increase the technicality as Johnny progresses? And then go pro when Johnny is ready? I get that LL has history and seems like a blast, just seems like amateur and pros are no longer aligned. Be like training your whole life for Rugby and then once you turn pro you have to go to NFL.

I agree with you 100% LL's is nothing more than a money grab it in no way prepares kids/teens that have an ACTUAL shot at becoming pro the technique and timing needed for SX.

So, where do you suggest these parents take their kids to concentrate on Supercross skills?

Are there a bunch of Amateur Supercross tracks spread around the country putting on Amateur races on a weekly basis?

imagine if the supercross series had an amateur day with a slightly toned-down track to help amateurs make the transition. Maybe even have some of the higher classes race on the same track as the pros on the same day

Why are there not more toned-down Supercross tracks for amateurs? Seems like a good opportunity to have Amateur SX events. Masterpool family tried it at Lazy (OK) a few years, and always had super fast amateurs, but idk why it didn't last. But if Supercross is the future, then I think there needs to be a couple of amateur events geared toward that (count in Mini Os if you want, but there needs to be more). Maybe an amateur SX track at Freestone (TX), Somewhere out West, NW, Michigan, and NE. Spending thousands of dollars on kids and bringing them up thru the ranks on outdoor tracks makes no sense if the manufacturer only cares about SX. The skills are two different things.

99% of the participants in this sport will never get a pro card or ride an actual SX track. Motocross will always be the lifeblood of the industry, and LL's is the AMA motocross national championship.

For the select few that make a go at a pro career, they have plenty of options to start getting a feel for SX. AMA SX Futures, Mini O's, RC's Daytona Amateur SX, Arenacross, etc. Not to mention plenty of access to public and private SX tracks that never used to be an option.

I get that and agree 100%...I guess what I see at local events is dads pushing LL so hard on Johnny when in fact LL will likely not make/break Johnny's SX career. Just seems like so much emphasis on LL when it's unrelated to SX except for those few who pick up a ride (Levi Kitchen for example).

No they won’t -

SX did this back in the early 2000’s and it was the absolute biggest shit show we were ever apart of in 11 years of racing across the country.

Over 1k people showed, 50ish classes. Their were so many injuries the race schedule fell apart before 9:00AM and there are no speakers in the parking lot for you to know what race they are on.

Practice was at 7, first moto was at like 11;00, and I didn’t line up for my second moto until like 5/6 at night.

You would be in staging for over an hour because you didn’t want to miss your race, but given the amount of red flags it was impossible to time properly.

Im sure there is a better way to do it, but I can assure you it was not nearly as fun as you’re imagining it to be.

You know early on who has the talent to push into a pro career and who doesn't. The kids that do already ride an SX track at a training facility.

So your stance is the only kids who will make it as a Pro are the ones living at Training Compounds?

I dunno, you tell me...I don't know the childhood background of every current top Pro.

Couple examples that come to mind just off the top of my head...

Justin Cooper, didn't he finish out high school in a public school?

Chance Hymas....Factory Honda Amateur....I don't see him living at any compound, I actually see him out racing every chance he can get, including even *gasp* off road....

Add in Sexton, Roczen, Tomac, even Lawrence brothers did not live at training compounds

Sexton rode a lot at Reynards on 85s. I don't know if you would consider it "living at a compound" but he was riding with Forkner and other fast riders there.

Yes he would go there as well as other places for a bit but never lived or stayed full time any where .
