Wanted to share this since the price of gas is gettin' silly & I know of a lot of folks that are changing their racing, travel or vacation plans due to gas being just too expensive.

I drive quite a bit thru out California...where gas is INSANELY EXPENSIVE.

I use an app that many of you probably already know about BUT may not use; and, it saves A LOT of money in places/routes that I travel.

An example of real savings: On Wednesday I traveled up US 395 from SoCal to "Far NorCal" (730 miles). I used Gas Buddy to plan my gas purchases on my route.

I bought gas in Independence, CA for $6.59 a gallon...but!!!...I bought just enough gas(*) to get me 200 miles up the road...

To Minden, NV where gas was $5.59 a gallon...and I filled up there (28 gallons).
A buck a gallon goes a long way. $28 on just one tank (I fill that tank A LOT...98,000 miles since 3/20).

Oh, bye the way, that $28 is about the same as a gate fee for a practice day! ($30) Wink

On most of my trips I can save A LOT of money by finding the good prices with an app instead of just getting what's right on the off-ramp/conveniently located right next to the freeway. Yes, sometimes I may have to drive a mile or so off the highway/freeway; but, it's worth it.

About that asterisk or "just enough gas" explained: I always allow for an extra bit of gas just in-case we run into any issues like detours, traffic jams/stoped for construction on a hot day where the truck will be running the whole time.

The top right is the balance in my account currently. They’ll deposit into your bank or send you a gift card, there’s plenty to choose from.

I’ve heard of this one, but don’t know how it works. Do they spam you with a bunch of ads? How does Upside generate revenue?

I’d guess, knowing your habits, and your schedule, and your routes has value to someone.

I’d say 95% of the fuel I purchase is in a company credit card so I’ll drive the extra 2 minutes to get 15 more cents a gallon.
If you go inside the store and buy something like water/snacks I think you get 1 or 2% of that purchase too.

They’ve been pushing restaurants in the app as well.

Real question, do you feel like the extra time spent chasing gas stations is worth the $$$ saved?

Do you ever run into big lines at these "cash back" gas stations? Even in Northern CA it's not uncommon to be stuck behind 5 cars waiting for gas at the cheaper gas stations.

I don’t chase them personally. I’m not going to drive 20 mins to get the money. Most times the Upside gas stations aren’t the cheapest either, but with the cash back it becomes the cheapest.

I not going to pretend that I know a lot about tracking but I only have the GPS enabled when the app is open. It can see where I buy gas, if that’s got value to someone than what do I care?

I’m usually buying gas right on the road I’m on; but, sometimes on I-5 in the Central Valley, I’ll drive about a mile to the other side of the freeway/over the over-pass & save 30, 40 & 50 cents a gallon (Buttonwillow, for example).

I buy 5-6 tanks per SoCal/NorCal run…taking a few moments to save hundred’s of dollars per trip “ain’t no big thang” for me. If I drive a Raptor or a F250-350 diesel? The savings can be A LOT on just one “round trip”.

Another point, for me: I just don’t dig giving my money to “The Highway Robber-Barons”…pun intended!

Leasing a truck we had a contract with pilot, flying j. I did a search on fuel by state. You click on the state of the 4 that your driving threw and figure out what st has the cheapest fuel, which I already know. Then you find the rd that your taking and the cheapest fuel in route. The micro pilot will usually hv the cheapest but it could b 2 hrs in line to get to the fuel island. Cheap w2 co.s hv computer program fuel aptimizer they hv to get fuel on that program and it would b the micro pilot. I could only get 50 gal at a non pilot. You get .1 per gal on points to buy food really not worth mentioning, we call it truckers food stamps. Mr fuel/pilot s. Of Cincinnati I should b able to get 200 gal but the pump shutoff at 50. Ma and pa indipendemt is always the cheapest. It just takes forever to get the pump authorization because of the wait in line, etc. for a 50 gal it’s not worth the time you loose in Jan I figured it out . It’s ovr 200 per hr to operate if you ran 14 hr days. Paying with cash is the posted price at a truck stop. Airing tires upto 120psi and using just enough fuel to climb certain hills , throw it in neutral on down hills you gain more speed that wo on the pedal. This is extremely advanced driving if you can’t read the next down hill with a sharp curve. Your dead . You can get a fuel contract it’s not just for trucks. It’s a husle if a ld pays 2,400 , you paid 500 in tolls, 1,000 in fuel that’s not good at all. Because you hv 2,900 in payments a week. This formula forces truckers to run illegal. If you run 20 + hrs straight 7 days a week you cover the payments faster then you look at the rest of the week and try to make the most you can. I ran the N east mainly nobody wants to b there. So it paid more. A lot of similarities to a privateer. You really hv to dig into everything you hv physically and mentally. Pt exam blew the guys mind on 6-9 massive amount of damage to the body . And I,ve been doing my own pt 7 days a week I only missed 1 day in the pool since 4-21 my last day driving. Spinal cord pinched or damaged is a little bit of a shock but not really. Pt doesn’t like seeing 7 burn marks from pinched nerves on your lower back. I do probably 10,000 sit-ups a day to get blood flowing to the lower back a few times a week. Yeah we sacrifice the body, life and mind 100%. Most hv fused backs and necks with less exp.

Does it list top tier fuel station or any run of the mill station?
I stopped going to cheapo gas stations a long time ago. Water in fuel will teach you quick.

It lists pretty much every station if you go to the map view. List view seems to miss stuff sometimes.

Been using GasBuddy since 2018 - HUGE fan. I use it every moto trip. When I'm in my town I always use the same gas station; featuring ethanol free 91. They also have BBQ and play outlaw country under the fueling canopy.. but otherwise I go where GB leads me.

Additionally, I use another app called Pure Gas to locate ethanol free 91 when I'm beyond what my 5 gallon pail will provide me while I'm on longer moto trips.

I've been using mudflap for diesel but there isn't much around us.. I've wondered about the get upside I think I'll give it a shot more around here with it.

I’ve been using GasGuru for years. Probably saved ridiculous money if I was able to add it all up.

I’ve heard of upside but always sounded sketchy. You think it’s worth it?
