Does anyone have any pictures or good stories from Sandhills MX in SC. I believe it's all but gone by now, but I used ride my bicycle (because my parents wouldn't buy me a bike) down the dirt road from where I lived to the track on Sundays and watch the races. It seems like it was a pretty major track back in the day and I'd like to see some images from its heyday.

Bonus: we used to ride four wheelers in the sandpits that are now ClubMx, crazy to see how that's changed.

I was going to school in Charlotte and my brother came down for a visit in Feb 87. He brought his Cycle News with him and we saw there was a race there that Sunday, and being a crappy, rainy day we figured we'd go check it out. A fancy Yamaha box van pulls in and they roll out a YZ 80 and and 125 with number 68 on them, signaling the arrival of the Beast, and we'd heard the hype about him. He was transitioning to the 125 and was racing B class on it. First moto it blows up, second moto he races 125B on the 80 and absolutely destroys the pack. Not sure what the comp level was, but it was pretty close to a full gate. Unfortunately no pics other than in my head.

I raced a local series race there in March 2000. Coolest part of my day was the 9yo boy who came over to talk to me and knew more about me than I could've ever imagined. Safe to say I gave him a jersey.

I remember K. Walker had me covered that day, but I still made good $$$. That's a win!

I don't remember the track being epic, but the dirt was outstanding!

Sandhills was a totally different track than where the GNCC is now held. Sandhills was actually right by Club MX (literally off the same road) and the GNCC event is at the old Camp Coker MX, which is at Moree’s Sportsman’s Preserve and is the place in the ad Rupert posted. They’re only about 30 minutes apart though, so same general area.

When it’s feasible to do so, we actually route the GNCC course onto the old Camp Coker MX track. Doesn’t always happen and it’s sort of tough to get to it and back to the woods without making a bit of a mess with the parking, but it’s really cool when we do make it work. They never tore anything down there. They just stopped holding races around 2009 and it’s sat ever since with a few clean ups here and there. Still a lot of fun to ride!

Jim Neese vs Jim Chester..

For anyone who knows the lore of Sandhills - seeing it in it's current au naturale rustic state as you pull into ClubMX is just bittersweet... couldn't be more of a contrast between past vs present

Sandhills was such a cool place.. I was born close to there and used to go watch mud bog races that were held close to the finish line bleachers where they would dig a pit and fill it with water.. Moved 200miles away and 4-5yrs later I was racing motocross and realized Sandhills was the same place I had been to before. Ended up racing several winter series at Sandhills.
Camp Coker was also a great track. HUGE dragons back that was a lot of fun.. Larry Ward had a supercross practice track that was within walking distance but not visible from the track that we walked to in about 1997.. I went back and watched a race at Camp Coker around 2004ish and Larry Ward and Jim Neese were battling for the win.. We drove back to the supercross practice track and noticed that most people there had no idea about the track just over the ridge. Practice track was prime. Much better condition than it was when I saw it back in ‘97. Wonder what Larry’s SX track looks like now? Somebody down at club mx go snap some pics

I lived in Lugoff SC from 1996 til 2002. I spent a lot of time at Sand Hills during that time frame. It wasn't uncommon to have pros turn up to ride on practice days.

I raced my first race at Sandhills in September 2000. I got 3rd on my PW I think. I do have a few memories from when I was a kid racing there. One memory was watching Cooper Webb hop on my buddies KX65 for the first time back at the sand pits. I also remember some kids bike being torn down because of a protest. I remember my dad telling me that a kid on 85s by the name of Zach Osborne was there racing and that he was super fast. I never got the opportunity to ride the classic sand tracks in the area on a bike bigger than a 50. I really wish Camp Coker, Sandhills, or Montrose were still around.

Glad to see this thread brought some enjoyment to you guys. Just got back from a visit home to Chesterfield last week for the first time in 4 years, weird how so much has changed yet so much has stayed the same. I was hoping to take my kids out by ClubMX to show them around but never got a chance.

Sandhills was always pretty cool I thought..Damon outta if retirement stands out because he gave me his Manchester Honda jersey that day. Coker was always cool Pastrana, Stew, Damon, Larry award, always fun to see. It was always my favorite to watch Richie Horton race, he was always someone I thought was the greatest. Robbie got the shine, but Richie was awesome.
