Ongoing supply chain issues.....

Insane fuel prices that are only gonna get worse.....

Even the mainstream media talking about food shortages.....

DEF shortages on the horizon which will only compound supply chain issues....

Rolling black outs coming this Summer....

I don't wanna sound too much like a conspiracy theorist or tin foil hat guy, but are ya'll stocking up at least a little bit on the essentials to make sure you can take care of you and yours if shit gets wild?

We've always been more on the prepared side than most given that where we live is pretty remote and we can't just run to a WalMart or Home Depot in 10 minutes but we've definitely stepped it up some. The past 6 months or so we've really stepped up the food stock pile. I also got 100 gallons of gas and 50 of diesel on hand now as well as several oil changes worth of oil for everything I own, some spare parts for the essentials etc.

Are ya'll getting ready at least a little bit?

I hope so.....

We have done this a little bit for years just because it cant hurt and you never know when shit can happen. When the great toilet paper shortage hit our town we had some already stored in the basement from years before. We keep some of our food supply rotated which is easy because when you run out of syrup or ketchup or whatever we just go downstairs and grab one. Mom puts it on the list and it gets restocked. Some non perishable items just live down there in totes. My wife is so cool she even bought some shelves and onganized things in a very space efficient way. We dont go crazy prepping or anything (though sometimes I wonder if we should) but we got enough stuff to keep us going for a while. I think its a good idea to be prepared at least a little, heck even the government tells you to have a few days worth of supplies. If ypu dont have enough stuff to last you at least that long I think you should reevaluate your trust in our delicate system. One little thing can set off a chain of effects that can screw up all kinds of things.

Lol...my daughter freaked out when Ukraine was invaded. My basement is now a survival bunker. Food, water, generator, weapons, books, board games...and tons of crap. I did it with a bit of sarcasm but it's really not a terrible idea. The only real worry is the folks who don't prep because they know the address of those that didDry

I used the small surplus I got from the state of Oregon this year to get myself at least a 4 week food pack. Comes with all sorts of shit to let you get the needed calories per day, but its all pretty basic food. Not the most delicious of options, but if it all goes to hell in a second I'll at least have food for 6-8 weeks. My thoughts with it are more nuclear, apocalyptic scenarios when everything goes offline at once. I luckily live in between hundreds of acres of forest, and could disappear/live off the land for as long as I could and likely never see a soul.

I rely on my Moms overzealous Costco trips to stock myself with perishables and condiments for now Laughing

We've usually got a week's worth of water, lots of canned food and dry rations, plus a ton of toiletries and such. We aren't really prepping, but my wife coupon shops and ends up with extra.

The way I look at it is this: would you rather live in the apocalypse for a longer period of time, or just die early and get it over with? Silly

Ooph living like a trucker is not easy. Always having gallons of spare water because most truck stops don’t hv any. Living on canned food sucks. Basically get any kind of food in ya just to keep yourself alive. It’s a bitch. Flying j where you hv to get fuel can’t find anyone to work to make ovr priced cheese burgers or cold sandwiches. Most Walmarts r anti truck no time to stop there anyway. There is some strange stuff going on the last few months. Like the largest cold storage warehouses getting hacked. This includes the freezers. This happened a few times . There doing hack test runs to see how it affects the region of states.

Got my WR450 freshly rebuilt with a desert tank and baja lights. Enough MRE's for three months. Got some water sanitation kits, medical, and my trusty 10 on my hip, compound bow, I'm heading north and going riding and hunting if shit hits the fan.

Still almost half a steer, maybe a 1/4 deer, and various hog pieces in the freezer.

That along with a box of bullets or 2 should last me a while.

Freezer full of salmon, fishing rods, roe, crossbow, speargun. Filled my freezer with cabezon, ling cod and, rock fish during quarantine spearfishing in the Puget Sound. Did it then, I’ll do it again.

well,

the way some of you act here on vital, life isn't going to be worth living without live streaming mx with no issues.

we have about 65 horses we own and about 25 more boarders, so we have meat to barter with.

lots of polk salad still growing wild around here, and i am within a day's walk of hillbilly to stock up on disinfectant

Copied the hell out of that!

I've been brewing beer for 30 years?
And had a small still that I sadly lost in a horrific Boating accident.

Seems like a lot of guns have been lost lately in boating accidents.

Have a few extra 84 ltr containers full of food set aside and a lot of other gear generally. I tend to be a prepper by nature anyway, so it wasn't a huge last minute effort but rather something I've been doing somewhat over yrs now. I also invested in a wood burner. I believe at the very least that things are going to get significantly bad food-wise, but there's also always the potential for something far far worse (though thankfully unlikely). As such I have various levels of SHTF items (fire starting gear, water purification, butchering / foraging etc books, fishing gear etc etc) in case the day ever comes.

Yes and no. A few cases of water, two small shelves of canned goods, two cases of 2yr old MREs and more ammo than I can carry on my person at any given time.

If the above doesn’t get me through anything, then we are in REALITY deep shit.

I'd be worried if I lived in Africa and Southern Asia not in the US. I'd be more concerned with supply chain issues due to diesel cost limiting availability of particular things. I live in earthquake country anyway and you have to keep at least a few weeks of supplies on hand anyway.

Stopped at the UAP yesterday for a couple jugs of DEF. They had one left. So one was what I got. Buddy behind the counter couldn't believe it was all gone, they usually have a pallet of it in the corner. Said they'd have more next week. And cost was around 25% more than the last time I got some like 3 months ago.

Stopped at the Carquest after I left there. They had 3 jugs on the shelf. So I got 2. That was 15% more than at UAP.

Might keep the tractor going until snow plowing time. But will be close.

The DEF shortage could be what really throws things into a s&%$ show.....having all the diesel in the world for a dirt cheap price won't matter if 90% of the semis on the road can't run due to no DEF.

My "joke" during Covid toilet paper madness was:

If you have toilet paper and I have guns, I have toilet paper and I have guns.

It's obviously a joke but it's pretty close to reality. It's often said we are only 9 meals from anarchy. What are you willing to do to feed your family? Me? A lot.

I know you're just joking/bench racing....but what if the people who have the toilet paper also have guns?

I always get a kick out of the folks who's plan is to use their guns to take other people's shit, how many gun fights do folks think they'd actually survive?

Sweet Jeezus I hope it never comes to that point, but sometimes it sure doesn't seem to be looking good....

I pray to God I never have to make a decision to shoot my gun at another human being but in reality we do not know what the future holds for us. Would I pick up a weapon to preserve my freedom and my family's well being? You bet I would even though I would hope to never have to. I'm not Rambo or acting like I am Billy Badass, I just value my family's freedom, safety and security. If the shit hit the fan I would most likely load up the camper and get away from everything and everyone where I could try to sustain myself.

The most popular zombie show or movie of all time is "The Walking Dead" but the show really isn't about zombies at all. It is about the lengths you will go to protect yourself from other groups who would do you harm.

Have a small amount of supplies on hand but the freezer was JAMMED, and after hearing and reading all the doom & gloom decided it was time to buy something we always wanted.

I had no idea on what they went for but found a sale on one at HD for $219.
Our local store did not have any in stock so had to travel to Phoenix to get one.

Next steps:
Get a vacuum sealer (recommendations?)
Go to Costco and fill it up! Woohoo

True a modern trucks need def. They derate limit the speed to 20 aprox then shut off. I never ran out but most flying j def pumps never work. So you better plan ahead. Sat night a Chicago co I quit ovr a yr ago . Has me in a group text , a driver ran out of def. Drivers r saying remove me from group text I,m trying to sleep. Dispatch is texting fu. Then driver r threatening to kill him this crap goes back and forth. You can bypass the def system but 1 of the 16-24 computers will catch it and the warranty is void. There’s not too many o/o that do it. But most trucks are shutdown anyway. My back, neck, hip , leg etc was in extreme pain for weeks. Running junk 20-29 hrs even 39 hrs straight will blow your body out. I could see The rates what loads pay has been crashing since October. It went from record rates 7-9 per mi 18 to 2020. To 4.00 -4.75 for reefer in the ne 480.00 lumper unload fee that keeps rising. To 2.00 something a mi you loose money operating. Late April 99% of ovr 40 co.s at our truck your in Chicago where shutdown. Sunday night is not a good time to grocery shop but the shelf’s where empty. All kind of buisness people ask me can you find me a co that can deliver and pu for my manufacturing co. I say yeah minimum of 5 per mi plus fuel surcharge. Nobody understands it that it’s the most expensive buisness to run. A little bit is back lash that truckers where treated and r treated worse than someone with leparcy . Like Covid no American gave a crap about us. We made nothing for 2 yrs : 3 days to get loaded or unlded because there is 8 not 680 warehouse

Workers. no c19 hand out money. The biggest thing is that lds pay nothing now. I hope you didn’t get used to going to a store for food because the world is changing fast now. Fruit or meat etc will delivered twice a month and only 400k lbs. to your city. Wait in line for hrs to get a chance to buy a minimum amount. The largest frozen warehouse chains in the country where hacked. Lack of baby formula These r all test runs the gov is doing.
