Fucking radios on dirt bikes...
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts

Such as warning signals, "Coolant temp is 210 degrees"
LitPro data has laptimes and even which lines are faster, "Turn 3 segment was 0.2 second faster than previous lap"
Heart rate data and respiration rate... again could be a triggered warning signal rather than constant reporting, "Respiration rate too low"
These would not violate the current rulebook:
Section 4.2 A7. Receiving any form of prohibited outside assistance, including, but not limited to, receiving radio transmissions while in competition.
hubbardmx50-Impoving safety would be a side benefit but I didn't want to upset the racing in dangerous get used to it and flagging is fine the way it is crowd. Reality is Brett Downey Foundation was formed 20 years ago and there are still MX tracks in operation without dedicated entry and exit points so won't hold my breath for any safety improvements any time soon.
I think a simple red light on the handlebars that indicates a red cross flag is out on the track and penalties will be assessed for jumping or overtaking in the flagged section would be useful. The light activation would be timestamped with the race timer so they could go back and say it was activated at 10:35 and you jumped in the red flag area at 10:40, you get a penalty. It would also alert guys to look for a flag somewhere on track..
Laptimes and info are fine on the pit board. If they need more info the rider and mechanic can work out a code between them to communicate, like baseball.
The reason F1 is so wedded to radio is because the complexity of the cars and engines and various settings. The FIA have tried to control what is communicated to the drivers to. Coaching isn't 'allowed' technically iirc. However, it now makes great content for the entertainment side of the sport. I am not sure that'd work in SX though because at race speeds I highly doubt the riders will have enough breath to talk coherently.
Either way, it's not essential for MX/SX. For me it would take away something from the purity of the racing.
In MXGP with their dedicated pit boxes, they don't have the bullpen setting we have for SX and MX. Be interesting to hear what a mechanic who has worked in both environments has to say about this topic.
It would just be another way to increase the gap between the factory racers and the privateers.
RichieW13 Transponders didn't increase the gap between factory racers and privateers. Adding communications would be similar except ideally there wouldn't be anything to return to the AMA like they did with transponders for so long. Even if receivers have to be purchased for the helmet, provided there is some type of caution signaling component, it would be a worthwhile investment to avoid crashing after a blind jump. Replacing pit boards with radios, race mechanics know better than any of us keyboard warriors but regardless, we still have room for improvement when it comes to caution flags.
If those supercross only dweebs want to ride e-bikes all day let them. Then people who want to ride ICE bikes can show up at the national tracks in the middle of no where and make noise all day in glorious fashion.
