22 Crf 250?

Hello
Been a kawi guy since 85's... after a lot of kxf 250's (2011, 2015, 2019, 2021) with a little ktm break between the 2019 and 2021 kxf 250...
A friend of mine is selling his new 22 crf 250 (i bought my 21 kxf 250 from him, vet rider)...
I never had a honda and i'm not a honda fan... though the new crf look so good. I never had the chance to ride the newer crfs, but i tested the 21, which i didn't really like.
So... how does the 22 handle? I don't want a bike overloaded on the front like the 19-21 series... they get sketchy at high speeds.

Has the 22 250 any known problems? Any recalls? Thank you in advance.

My 21 kxf 250 has 70 hours so i'm not in a hurry to change my bike... plus i'm in love with how kawi feels/handles, especially this new 21, because not only it's very stable at speed but it turns really good.

I've ridden both (son has a 21 KX250) . The Honda's power is the direct opposite on the Kx and it does turn a little better but not as stable. The Honda would be a better vet bike because of that power and the Kx is faster . The Honda will hold way better resale value and looks amazing . The new Yamaha has the best power but ergos are weird . I was all set to get the Honda and a low hr 22 350 came up so picked that up also have 19 kx 450. I don't think the Honda's $ 1k better of a bike but you can't give used kawies away .

The 22 doesn't have the head shake the 21 could have, but it still has a lot of weight on the front. It might be more stable than the 21 but I would not call it stable. KTMs have more rear grip if that gives you a reference point.

My mate has the 22 Honda, honestly the best bike I’ve ever ridden. Handles perfect, power delivery is lovely and it’s so light. Just rolling it in and out the van compared to my gas gas it just feels so much lighter. They might not be too dissimilar on the scales but it feels night and day.

22 Honda 250 is years better than the previous gen in every way. Better engine, lighter and turns easier, still gets nervous on the front though. Give the bike more sag and drop the forks. Sacrifice the turning capability a bit for stability. You can make any bike turn better or stable. Its not set in stone it has to be that way.

You can help it, but you can't change its characteristics when the frame geometry is what it is. Hondas are fun to turn with the front end in nice and tight lines, but man on faster straights with breaking bumps she becomes a not so fun ride.

Same here I had a 2020 crf250R and my 2022 is so much better. I also had a 2021 yz250f I hated that bike it felt so weird and just didn’t fit me overall not a good bike. Now the 2022 crf250R is amazing bike, the quality and fit and finish is second to none. I dropped the forks and run it all bone stock clickers etc works amazing. Doesn’t get nervous at all and has great power low end and revs out really well. The suspension works awesome also better the the 21 yz for sure. I do weigh 150# so take that for reference. Either way you won’t be disappointed

What tires and surface are you running on? How many hours on your existing front tire and what pressure are you running?

Hi wrc777, thanks for the reply. I run the Dunlop Geomax MX3SF at the front (@ 1 barP) (14,50 psi) and the Geomax MX33 on the back. Unsure of how the tires are, exactly. We race sand to semi hard-pack tracks.

Try the MX53 front. I feel that those soft front tires don't provide enough hold up, especially in hard pack. Try running 12psi

I think most people run 13-13.5 psi on that front tire and 1 psi lower on the mx33 rear tire. After 10 hours or so the mx3s front can start to feel like it wanders at least in a straight line even if all the lugs are there and sharp. I would think your high pressure would negate that but maybe the pressure is just too high. The Honda has a lot of steering which is usually sketchy in sand. You can try dropping the forks and or adjust for more sag.
