I knew a couple guys that went down there at the direction of the promoter to pick up a few things that he left there. Turns out the promoter lied, didn't own what he said he did; and was into the tribal commission for a ton of dough. As compensation for what the promoter supposedly owed to the tribe, they entertained the idea of seizing the 35' stake bed truck they were driving, their bikes, etc. before changing their mind and letting them leave.

As far as I can recall, Giuseppe Luongo originally got the rights to the GPs under his Action Group company. He then sold it to Dorna (MotoGP promoters) but continued running the series as VP(?) of Dorna. Then Dorna realised it was a dead duck, cut their losses and got out. GL bought it back (presumably for a pittance), this time under the company name Youthstream.

So, technically, the Competition Park debacle was GL’s doing, along with his shady Austrian, Italian (and maybe Venezuelan) pals at the FIM.

Looking back, it really was a failed practice for the ‘GPs at a non-existent track in a car park’ scenario that was to come.

Ok forgive me if I’m being slow here. So this guy is like a davey coombs, bought the rights, FIM does the sanctioning and scoring and GL as the owner sold the rights of the “brand” or name of mxgp to this dorna company? Who didn’t seem to know what they were doing ?

Sounds a bit like DC himself. Cooksey has done a good job exposing how he runs this shit. The whole outdoors isn’t even sanctioned by ama I guess, it’s ama pro sports which is owned by the group that owns nascar. It’s all confusing as shit. But seeing how he operates it and how underpaid the whole field is, how they charge the tracks etc we need change. I don’t know much about europe I watch the races but I don’t know the figures or politics but I have heard those guys make even less

I have no idea about MX promotion and such. I do know this much...DC has never been anything but a stand-up guy to my knowledge. I'd bet my bottom dollar that he pays the riders their fair share of what money is made. Should the riders be paid more...of course. You can only slice a pie so many ways. Maybe I'm naive but until I hear Mitch, Troy, Roger or some top riders publically stating that DC is eating meat while they get bones...I'll continue to believe DC is a straight shooter.

I would suggest checking out guy coopers whiskey throttle show episode and see what he has to say about him, also check out cooksey media on YouTube he sourced the contracts. 70k for all riders to split at a national yet charges each track 200k to host and a percentage of the tickets. I don’t know all the details of course I can only speak on what I have seen myself. The fact that he won’t let privateers sell merch and wants to take all their go pro footage and rob their YouTube income is wack af as well.

DC is the man. No two ways about it. Heart and soul promoter with a life time in the sport.

Guiseppe? Not so much. However, you wont hear DC say so - he's way too classy to badmouth people.

I wouldn't dare dispute your numbers because I have no clue. I do know this...that damn Cooper tried to take me out in every corner...so he's pretty much a dick (I'm joshing about the dick thing...he's an okie legend). Cooksey always seemed like he was grinding his axe...he may or may not be impartial. I also believe that even as competitive as the different teams are...if MX sports tried to ban a team for negative publicity...there'd be an industry revolt.

Could things be done differently...probably. Would it take more than one entity involved to agree to the changes... definitely.

Old DC still gets a thumbs up from me...unless you've got video of him and a goat gettin' jiggy.Silly

We went and raced a CMC race there before the des nations and the track, mainly the dirt, was not even close to being a decent local track much less an international race.

It didn't earn the name "Pigshit Park" for nothing. I heard about 1 (or more ?) guys getting a staph infection after crashing and getting dirt in the wounds. The worst one being a compound fracture. That ring a bell ?

When I was printing for No Fear Marty Moates left a roll of at least a thousand tickets on my desk. I guess that was a thousand people who didn't get burned. I remember printing a bunch of those tee's ..... Maybe I'll run some more one of these days.

i dunno i dont think the other manufacturers would have an issue if one gets singled out for whatever reason....im sure the race teams and factory teams here have a strict hush order from japan about complaining about anything but they dont seem to give a shit about suzuki disappearing on all fronts, more KTMS out front for KTM so to say eh?

im just going off what ive seen and how i see them react. DC told me on instagram that hes friends with guy cooper and cooper never tried to have a national. Yet then you listen to the podcast and here guy coopers own words "they are a mafia" DC has been caught in a lie or saying the opposite of what he said before numerous times. i dont know cooksey personally nor have i been following him long enough to know if he has something to grind but in my opinion he is a common fanatical fan like a good majority of us that want to see the sport grow in a healthy way and he has just spoken up on issues preventing that. who knows i could be completely wrong, but then again DC and all them could be a lot less secretive .

Dan, I have never spoken to Guy Cooper about a national at his place, just as I told you on Instagram. I don't know why (or if) he thinks that, I haven't spoken to Guy in years--certainly not since MX Sports began running the series in 2009. I'm sorry if he thinks otherwise--we've been friends for a long time, but not so much in the past 15 or 20 years. He has my number, just as you do.

I went to his track in Stillwater, Oklahoma exactly once, more than 20 years ago, and rode with KTM factory riders Ping and Shayne King and Donovan Mitchell as part of the team intro (which tells you how long ago) and my only take was it was a great track, but way far out of town. If I said that to Guy and he somehow thought years and years later that I was "the mafia" because he never got a national, he is wildly and unfortunately confused. But as an old friend, I will call him to find out exactly what he meant.

Otherwise, I can't make sense out of nonsense, so I won't bother. DM if you really have any follow-up questions, or come see me at the races, you know where to find me.
