He never led on how much pain he was going through this time.
Have to think he had this planned for awhile because his favorite singer Kurt Cobain past on the same day.
Like clock work Scottie would post up his passing every April 5th.
Rest in peace my brother, you'll be missed for sure.
Running the medical industrial complex gauntlet can wear you out and corrode your soul. And at some point you can begin to see your body as something apart from your "self," and an enemy of your welfare. That's not a fun place to be. In the present, the more than can be done that may make the biggest difference is the profound gift of hanging in there with someone, even when they want let go. Be willing to let someone bleed on you a bit about being down.

When I joined vital, it was Scottie that got me hooked -- I so looked forward to his Saturday bench racing threads, commentary, and the good energy he brought! With all due respect, when he left, I no longer followed the bench racing threads. No one could replace him, IMHO.
I have not experienced the prolonged pain and agony that Scottie did, but I do know how a chronic disease(s) can affect how you think, what you think, how you view life and your existence, what your future will or will not be...I understand the desperation, the weariness...and the toll it can take on one's being.
Many members on this thread have commented on Scottie's courage, his will to press on, and rise above his circumstances for the benefit of others -- and I completely agree. As the recent threads show, and I believe Scottie knew -- he was(is) loved by many. And again, as many of you said, in so many ways: "thank you Scottie -- thank you making our world a little brighter. Thank you for showing us how to rise above our trials and how to find joy and appreciate the present...even when we are not our best. You will not be forgotten. May you rest in peace, brother."
Still so hard to believe you are gone dear friend.
You never knew the impact you had on everyone. . . and still are having to this day.
Lifting a beer and a bowl to you tonight, hoping for a great afterlife... you deserve it bro.

I miss those days. Now at 68, I'm still riding (54 years) and I am just starting to get a hint of what chronic pain is. In Jan 2021, I started to develop back pain from spinal stenosis (because I'm old). It doesn't go away and it's worse for me at night. Fortunately I get some relief by getting a shot every 6 months or so. This tiny inconvenience and a bout with Lyme disease a couple of years ago really helped me appreciate what people go through when they have chronic pain with no relief. It really upped my empathy for those that suffer.
I'm sorry Scottie had to suffer and I'm sorry that we lost touch over the years. RIP Scottie.

I believe there are a couple vital regulars in this photo. Including Scottie, I could be wrong but I’ve seen other shots of him on a Kawi In that same Arai helmet. This looks to be from a Golden State Race
Also goes to show how strong he had been with having to deal with his injuries for all those years. Maybe he was in a chair but he was a GIANT of a man.
