That song was so popular, those who werent alive then wouldnt get it. Me and my cousin took a notepad and transcribed the entire thing so we could follow along with the 45 I had of Convoy. Same day, we did 'The Streak' by Ray Stevens, too. Simpler times to be a kid.

RIP Mr. Fries

He has a few big hits that where played every hour. Phantom 309 is a song about a man who took a chance and was down on his luck. Hitched a ride with phantom 309 who is actually a ghost. A driver who was killed in an accident who picks up hitch hickers and drops them off at a dinner. Teddy bear is another hit. In the s east I scan the radio for old country or blue grass stations. There is women singing songs about there’s not a man walking earth that could plz them so she tells them to hit the rd. And I wish I could’ve met my mommas lover. Pretty fare out writing for today even. Chics that said I had enough it’s time to hit the rd and hitch a ride. I,m going where the wind stops blowing. Etc. great song writing back in the 60-70,s

'Phantom 309' and 'Teddy Bear' was Red Sovine. (he also did 'Giddy Up Go' )

But they all were popular in the same time and no doubt 'Convoy' was the one that people remember most. (even inspired the movie)

Billie Dale Fries grew up in a tiny Audubon house less than 5 miles from my uncle's farm. About 45* min from where I grew up.
While in college in Omaha I job shadowed at Bozell advertising. He had worked as a creative director there before he started his music career.

RIP, Rubber Ducky
