Just got home from a weekend trip and saw this. Might have made the Oscars worth watching:

A little disappointed that the guy who played Ali couldn't knock down a COMEDIAN!

He should have hit him with his purse instead. Cool

I'm sure it was staged. I'd be curious to see how much viewership went up afterwards...

I think staged as well , Chris puts his chin out and braces for impact , makes no attempt to avoid or defend

I don’t think it was staged. Chris was visibly shaken afterwards, blew his lines and couldn’t wait to get off stage.

Comedians have gone after big time celebs year after year at the Oscars and I never saw one get violent. Will was cussing up a storm when the broadcast went silent.
There are you tube videos out with uncensored content. It was no act.

If you read his lips at one point he said “keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth”. There isn’t anyone in that room that could have pulled this off….def lost his cool and I’m sure he’s gonna pay big for it if Chris presses the matter.

Eh, I doubt it was stage. Smith looked genuinely pissed.

Idk - 1) don’t talk about a man’s wife, but 2) throw a fit much? Like he wasn’t laughing too until he saw his wife mad. Grifter simp move.

Three reasons I think it was staged:

1) Oscar rating have been shrinking massively year after year for the last handful of years (9.8 million last year compared to 40 million in '14). This did/will definitely bring eyeballs to the show.

2) The guy just won the best actor Oscar for playing a guy with a notorious short temper, so he can very believably pretend to be pissed off.

3) A GI Jane/bald joke? Say what you will about Chris Rock, but the man is funny, and a bald joke is pretty low hanging fruit by any standard.

Don't think that was staged at all. Saw it come up on my news feed a bit ago.
Can't stand Will or his stupid wife , and hope Chris sues the shit out of him. Cheap shot.
This little feud started years ago I guess. Thing is , cracking a joke aint a crime , but smacking someone half your size definitely is.

If Jada is going bald because of a medical condition, the joke was pretty ordinary.
But Will Smith should be able to restrain his emotions a bit better
Most of all, I get that it is news, but Jesus there is so much coverage. I was over it after reading a single article.

I will never believe this wasn’t staged. They’re actors. These award shows are a shell of what they used to be. What’s happening is the exact reason they would stage this. Mission accomplished.

I wish it was Ricky Gervais who wrote a joke about her bald head. That would add a better punchline (pun intended)

The one thing that makes me think it wasn’t staged is the fact that Will Smith looked like a proper dickhead
Not sure why he would agree to doing that for ratings.

Staged. Far worse things have been said.

Go watch the roast of Pete Davidson. Absolutely brutal. His father was killed in the attacks on 9/11 and jokes included that. Too me that was crossing a line.

Not so much what was said, but what’s going on inside Will Smith’s head. People can respond very differently to identical situations, and what happened last night likely results from a lot of history. Rock making a joke of an auto-immune issue may cross some undefined line, but Smith’s assault crossed a legally defined line.

Smith likely stays in his seat if Chris Rock is built like “The Rock”. Gotta admit, Chris maintained his composure in a way a lot of people could not.

I know there are uncensored versions. I included one in my original post. I don't think it was staged because I've seen Chris Rock act and I've never seen him this convincing.

Staged for ratings. Hollywood is so bankrupt for originality and ideas they are feigning this kind of crap to get attention. Downright pathetic. That area used to be ground zero for acting talent, free thinking, insightful writing about the human condition, IMAX worthy cinematography, true art on celluloid. Now its cancel culture, woke scripts with quota casting and zero new ideas. All ran by a generation of no talent hacks who cant see past their Twitter feed and whats 'trending'.

Coming up, yet another 'Spiderman' remake. smh

lol, Just last night my wife and I were watching Eternity and I heard her say “quota met”. Not even joking.

Ive been pretty numb to all of hollyweird’s woke bs at this point, but it’s just getting comical now.

This slap drama is on another level. Whether it’s real or not, I just can’t believe the number of people that think it’s real.

I'm pretty convinced it was real. Could've been staged but everyone seemed pretty shaken up by it and Chris Rock isn't a great actor. With all the drama that's gone on between Will Smith and his wife I think he's in a pretty bad state mentally and he just cracked.

Imagine if anybody who wasn't a famous actor got up there and slapped him. They would be tackled, and hauled away in cuffs. But instead he gets to stay, and gets to accept his trophy, and give his speech.

My vote is for staged.

The open hand ‘punch’ looked like a very good acting punch, but that’s about it.

I don’t know if it was planned by the awards group or just between the actors themselves, though.

Smith figured he could get away with it because it was the Oscars… there would be no witnesses.

The punch/ slap seemed fake, but Smith’s comment after he sat back down didn’t seem staged..

My vote- Not staged
