Agreed though I see triple crowns as circus-fication of it. Next we can have rings of fire to jump through. I didn’t know so many people liked this garbage. I can argue that once Tomac saw JA get 6th in the first race he knew he had the win and settled for 2nd in race 2 as well as race 3. There’s no points system that works and is fair. This stuff is fine for Monster Cup with your idiotic joker lane. It doesn’t belong in championship professional racing. It’s an exhibition stunt. Out of 6 races that ran, the actual 2 winners only won 1 single race between the two of them. Think about that.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are some days when real men are riding their dirt bikes out of doors, and the winner of the event never wins any of the individual races. One time I saw Jeff Ward get second place two times in a row and then was declared the "winner"! Effing pussy.

I'm getting off your lawn now.

Really? Was Wardy trying or did he decide 2nd was good enough? He still had 3 points to go after in moto 2. It’s not a situation where he only gets 25 points for the win based off a 2-2 score. The point was there was no incentive for Eli to try for first in the 3rd race. Eli gets nothing more for risking trying for first in the 3rd race. It’s a poor attempt at a comparison you made. It would be much easier to just admit I’m right.
I don't see it's a poor attempt. I've actually heard Wardy say if he didn't see the risk outweighing the reward, he would back it down, even though there were points still out there. That's how you get seven national championships and 6(?) MXdN titles.

I think all professional racing really needs to force riders into thinking a bit while out there and the triple Crown does that. That's why Lawrence keeps getting bit. He's all balls and no brain. The joker lane should be mandatory at every race.

I judge a professional race on three things:
Does it show extreme athletic talent? Three 12's are way more impressive to me athletically than one 20.
Does it force a rider to think more? Yes it does.
Is it more exciting? Yes, way more than a single main where all riders are on the same track for only twenty minutes of the whole night, and you get six full, meaningful starts.

Been to many supercrosses, but this was my first Triple Crown in person. By far the most exciting one I've ever attended. Even my wife, who only watches supercrosses when I drag her along, said afterward the Triple Crowns are way more enjoyable to watch.

Sure plenty of guys back down when they realize they don’t have it that day. They don’t back down because there are no more points to gain. Thanks with the thought that you want a joker lane too, I just can’t take it.

Here’s the best scenario if triple crowns absolutely are a necessity. It stays as it is with one caveat: the winner of each “main” gets 3 points. So 9 extra points are up for grabs on the night then there are the normal points for the overall finish. So last week, Anderson gets 6 more points and Webb gets 3 more. That seems very fair and could entice a rider who already has the overall to race for more points in the last race.

I like the triple crowns, but I think each race needs to be more unique

Race 1 - Elimination Race
Every lap the last 2 riders are eliminated until there are only 2 riders left

Race 2 - Sprint
Short race, I'm talking LCQ short

Race 3 - Reverse Order Start
The lowest score from races 1 and 2 gets the last gate pick, and this race will be the longest. If there is a tie, moto 3 is the tie breaker.

3 different formats to showcase 3 different skills. Race 1 will showcase good starters, consistency, and all out speed with no lappers in the way. Race 2 will showcase great starters and sprint speeds. Race 3 will showcase endurance
OK, building on what you said, here is my (ridiculous) take on it.

Race 1: Eliminate the last 4 riders. Exceptions for anyone in the top 10 in points
Points are 3x position - first is 3 points, 2nd is 6 points

Race 2: Same elimination as race 1 (4 more riders), points are 2x position (first is 2 pts, 2nd is 4pts)

Race 3: Whoever is left, points are 1:1 for position.

Overall: Lowest points wins, more emphasis on later races so no one "phones it in" on the last race; final race result will have more influence than earlier races. Tiebreaker is highest position in race.

The worst part of triple crowns is the stupid math. I enjoy the fact that every race contributes to the overall but by the 3rd race I can't remember where everybody in the top 10 placed in the first 2 races. TV helps by reminding you but fans in the stadium have no clue, at least I didn't in Detroit a few years ago. I think it would be a better format to only count the last 2 races, make them both slightly longer, and make the first race a shorter heat race that determines gate pick for the last 2 races. As they are I don't mind them only being 3 rounds but I think the standard format is slightly better.
Not sure the fans that don't have a clue actually attended the event to find a clue. Many families I see appear to come for the entertainment and family aspect and racing is secondary. Hardcore fans have the smartphones showing Live Timing in the stands or at home on the couch checking race results and lap times while watching the race on TV.

Keep the Triple Crowns as is and don't change a thing.

So who will be happy if they go to all triple crowns all year? Seeing how popular they are I bet they’d like to. The teams and riders being the stumbling block.

Triple Crowns are gimmicky.

Heats and LCQ's. Why?
Who gives a crap about watching Bogle in an LCQ just to see him go 2 laps down in the main. Completely pointless. Let's cut to the chase and watch racing that actually matters.

I can agree with this.

Why does everyone get so hung up about the third race not being “important” to the overall? Same thing happens in motocross where you can follow a rider home and still take the overall.

They are night and day better than the old format: fuck the old format.

I'm just glad none of you are actually in control of what happens to the series.

Because in MX, points aren't given for the overall. If you're in second and have the overall clinched, you can still gain 3 points by getting the lead, and the other guy lose 3 points. That is a 6 point swing in the championship points. In SXTC, there was no value to trying to pass if you've already got the overall sewn up. The scenarios are nothing alike.

Would it be weird if I said I'd like to see a Daytona triple crown?

What's your definition of gimmick? How are three shorter races, but more overall seat time, more of a gimmick than less seat time but one race? Honest question.

30 minutes PLUS 3 laps (minimum!) of Daytona?

Oh, HELL YES!

Supercross itself is a gimmick. The triple crown is adding a gimmick to a gimmick. I still laugh with all the pyrotechnics. Gimmick. Flames on the start, gimmick. Flames at the finish, gimmick. They really don’t need to make it any more circus like.

Well if tonight's Detroit race wasn't the exception that proves the rule. I really like triple crowns, but some posters noted that Tomac just paced it carefully and "phoned it in" to get the last moto position he needed.
Damn tonite shows that with one race there are no second chances and we get got some great racing.

Yeah tonight’s race was depressing to say the least. I knew Tomac would take it after he passed Anderson, but it’s sucked to see 3 of the top 5 guys not finish due to injuries. Just proves the level Tomac is on. He’s consistent and can win without running guys off the track being dirty.

One thing they absolutely have to sort out is a classification for the individual Motos/races/sprints/gangbangs. I was looking at the results sheet and noticed it has McAdoo with ZERO laps led which is insane considering he has won a race. Hopefully Matthes' loud voice on this issue gets it fixed.

Im all in for the triple crown format, more racing = more things to watch.

But i think that each moto should score full points, making each moto count.
