Didn’t read through all the bs in this thread. Clearly the top GP and AMA riders would go toe to toe if all they did was race one series together. Could debate that all day long.

I don’t have any problem with only 25 riders on the gate at a GP. I personally think it’s stupid to have 40 riders on the gate at a national. The lap times vary 10+ seconds a lap from first to 40th. Only 1-20 earn points. Hmmmm. That’s freaking stupid. Run qualifiers and then the fastest top 20 are all that needs to be on the line for a pro race. This of course is my not so humble opinion LOL

No wonder some of MXGP riders like to come to the USA and race, It would be my goal to race in the US and do the nationals and SXs and get the heck away from the MXGPs.

And? How is MXGP in any way comparable to F1? You’re either trolling or completely clueless

F1 is super boring to watch. Only drivers in two teams have realistic change of winning. Rest of the drivers and teams are just statistics. I quit watching F1 years ago for that same reason.

Average motocross fans are not the same group of people who like hang out at F1 races. Real motocross fans do not mind if they get some mud on their boots and have to drink their beer in a plastic cups as long as we have good racing on a proper motocross tracks and MXGP is quickly losing that group

Can you also explain to us why only 15 & 14 regulars are making the trip to Argentina? Why are all these guys who stay at home deciding to miss out on all the money they can make in gp's?

This is the highest level, yes it unfair guys outside top 15 don’t have the same level of support at the elite guys. But hey it’s a free world, Anyone of those guys outside top 15 have a chance to win at some point & secure a better team. The top riders will loose their rides if they don’t maintain the highest standards. This is the high pressure sports world.

It’s important the sport travels the world, the sport benefits from the exposure & that important for the future.

No one is saying that it isn’t important that the sport travels the world. I’m a big supporter of the race in Argentina, they always attract a great crowd and a number of fast local riders, it is a worthy GP venue. 2 races in Indonesia and a GP in Oman is bullshit. What is wrong with Brazil, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand? Places with strong motocross pedigree?

To your first point, if you’re not on a team, there is no chance to earn yourself a ride on a factory team because if you’re not on a team you can’t race. That’s the whole point. In America a guy like Freddie Noren or Phil Nicoletti can turn up and race as a privateer and earn themselves a ride on a factory team. There is no chance to do that in Europe and that is wrong
Its easy, Infront is looking for venues, who will pay. They dont care about huge motocross community and history.

If you podium with EMX your see your self with a shot in the big boys classes.

Lupucci is in MXGP now.

I think you have to be realistic, you can’t fill 40 gets of top teams traveling the world, there will be compromises sometimes.

However it is undeniable we have the best media outreach for motocross within MXGP.

I appreciate prize money would help riders, but I’m today’s world go & research how much money an athlete can make via social media, that all comes from media exposure from promoter.

We live in 2022 now & have to think presently.

It's funny that you brought Lappucci in to this conversation. He's a good example what is wrong with the GP system. He's a smaller stature rider and better suited for 250 sized bike but now due to age limits in 250 classes he's forced to ride in 450 class. He tried to ride 450 in the off-season which resulted an in injury and now he's riding underpowered 250 two stroke against the 450's

In the past, the gates weren't filled with 40 GP riders either, but then you still had a bunch of good semi-pros who performed well at national level and could sometimes provide a surprise in a home GP.
You don't see that anymore, yes a few local driving chicanes.

I'm not talking about gate fillers what we are used to see in races held in third world countries. Why there would be a problem with lappers if the truly fastest riders of the world would qualify like in EMX125 and EMX250?

Edit: Maybe there should be rule that the qualified riders should within certain percentage from the fastest qualifying time to prevent dangerously slow riders to qualify?

If you’re capable to get into the points in either mx2 of mxgp, you should be able to earn some money. Period. Now we have 50 EMX250 riders riding as fast(or faster) then 20nd place in MX2. But none of them races GP’s because of the costs. Meanwhile proven talents like Watson (who won gp’s) , Vlaanderen, Van Donick have to ride for basically free. Factory Beta rider van Horebeek - who is basically one of the most respected and veteran riders of the paddock right now - doesn’t even know he can race up until a week before. The system is not working

It's an endless shit fight, with Luongo in charge.

And, he is still in charge, even with it being InFront now.

Unless he's 'upped' the assistance, I think it's only a couple of hundred kilos freight cost met by 'Him' for any Team(s) for overseas / far distance races.

The 'model' of getting big sponsors / governments ( of various levels) is now all pervasive, In All Sports. And I don't write that in any way to defend that F**kwit Luongo - he's a pox on our sport.

And, part of that 'model' is huge ramp up of fees payable to Him / InFront, over a succession of years.

So many venues / local promoters/ Govs get seriously burnt by it all. And the Sport itself.

But, some might want to check how few GP riders in the Carlsbad / Canadian GP era ( and the later Decoster as a Promoter era GPs ) came over from Europe / Britain. Pretty much / not much more than the levels that we have now. Just that there were more 'locals' to fill out the gate, and even a fair few of them had no business being out on the track at a GP. Though, you had dedicated / determined / mad bastards like Robgvx still getting on a plane to North America after walking through a glass partition / door, and almost losing an arm, just before the GPs Woohoo

That there are no races at places that have been put up as being 'better to go to? Well, those places cannot afford to take the risks and pay for the privilege of paying Luongos / Infronts fees. And, the damage done by the inevitable financial disaster that holding the event would bring, could / would be hard to overcome.

At the Matterly MXdN there was some bloke/ group that were touting for a GP ( or the MXDN?) at a bloody Trotting facility by the Swan River in Perth. That would have been a disaster, and an unending source of ridicule for the Sport here in Australia.

There's a lot being said about the damage that may be done to the US Nationals by the emergence of this World Supercross Championships. Well, Luongo might just get a fright from it, with the 'help' being said to be on offer for the Teams that do it. But no, I doubt it will result in Luongo doing anything of substance, with regards to better deals / treatment of Riders and Teams. He's got the rites to the GPs somewhere into the '30s', I think, and an FIM World Championships means a hell of a Lot to the Factories, Teams and Riders.

So perhaps your missing something..
It must bother you immensely to have had so many World Champions consider the US the next level to conquer after winning their titles in the “elite series”. Even if for the last decade you could have had a Roczen and Musquin there instead of here. But over the years, Tortelli, Pourcel, Albertyn, so many left for the terrible US series. Then the guys who never even considered bothering with the MXGPs…..Reed, Lawrence now. That’s got to burn your ass, no amount of arguing makes that go away.

It must bother you immensely Team USA has lost every MXoN since 2012. For the record I am just using your posting style since I don't like people telling me how I feel and don't want to do it others. Anyway I am so over this my series is better than your series. Just enjoy them both.

I think you need to quit living in the past mate.

The world changes, the way sport works needs to adapt.

I’ve got nothing but respect for US riders, big fan of the sport in general. I do think it’s shame the US elite choose to stay national riders.

A fully fit MXGP class is incredibly deep in talent, if you disagree go watch highlights of last season.

Would be great to see some US national riders step up to international level racing, I get it, money money money SX, rock star entrances, fireworks, hot dogs in the warm etc

But where the national pride USA ?? 🇺🇸

Don’t you want a world champion ?

if so , the ama nationals gates would be half empty as well , riders lapping 10 or more seconds a lap slower doesnt bring any extras to the sport but its always been like this

If I’m paying to watch a race in person or on television I expect the gates to be full! Especially on a professional level.

Let us know when Team USA wins another MXoN. For the record, as an American I hope its this year but know it won't be anytime soon. The Man said the same thing saying it would take three to five years if we actually put a concentrated effort into it.

With America being very close in size to the European union the American national series has just as much prestige as the MXGP series to Americans as well as the manufacturers. Add to that the importance of Supercross to the manufacturers and it leaves little reason for the American riders to contest the GP's. Due to American dominance in the 80's, 90's and 2000's the GP's lost a lot of luster as compared to when the euros would come to America in the 60's and 70's and show the American's how it is done. Obviously that is no longer the case but once you lose that luster it is hard to get back.

It just points to what a train wreck all of these euro countries are financially

Plus you can’t do this without 40 riders on the gate
