We're all good.

I need to avoid certain topics, not due to any lack of knowledge or respect for differing opinions, it's due to the lack of compassion and empathy some seem to show for others that becomes bothersome, so I'll have to avoid it and those people.

As someone who holds a concealed carry permit and firmly believes that responsible citizens should be able to own and use firearms, that old man overstepped his boundaries 100%.

He should have been in prison many years ago and left with only the thoughts of the day that he took another father/husband/son away from his family forever.

Ditto. I'm an NRA member and Concealed weapon permit holder. Based on what is known about the situation, I'd hands down support conviction. The kid was unarmed, period.

To be honest, most CCW holders are more educated on when its appropriate to use force than non-CCW members. I would expect them to be more critical of the police officer in the given situation.
Even if the kid was armed, he was still murdered. Being armed doesn't give someone the right to shoot and kill you.

By the same token, there are obviously times when using deadly force is justified on someone who is 'unarmed' as well. Whether the kid had a weapon is not relevant, unless he was using that weapon in a manner that was a reasonable threat to others.

That's a pet peeve of mine, when people are talking about a victim of a shooting/killing being 'unarmed'. It infers that being armed is reason enough for being killed, and we all know deep down that that simply isn't true.

As somebody who followed that case, I am so, so sorry for your family, man.

There are no words for the lack of justice and accountability in that entire debacle.

I looked it up and read through it and that is fucked up, right down to rehiring the cop so they can retire him with PTSD from killing the guy!

WOW...

I am pretty sure that this place would be far better with 2-3 of Dave’s accounts than with a single one of yours …..

Thanks, Kevin, but 2-3 more of me would be difficult to deal with, how about just 1 or 2?

I hope you and your family are well.

Saw the theater video and the testimony of Oulson's wife last night. You see the whole sequence with some some fast forward to skip through the time when Reeves was ratting on Chad. As far as any kind of assault, all you ever see was Chad's arm reach over, grab the popcorn and toss it on Reeves. Then almost immediately the shot was fired like he already had the gun in his hand before Chad grabbed the popcorn.

I hope there was another witness that saw what happened and heard what words were exchanged. Not that I think the wife was not telling the truth but another random witnesses corroboration would seal the deal.

This is on Youtube btw.

Cash , If i read this right , you are related to the guy who was killed correct? If so , I hope your family gets justice and that ex-cop never see's the light of day again. About 8 years ago when this happened , i remember reading a thread here about this , and someone chimed in and said he was related to the victim. Was that you?

I think you're right on that , but I swear I remembered someone else chiming in saying he was related to him. The search function here doesn't work well , so I had no luck finding it. Either way....it's nice to hear that sob will spend his last days on earth behind bars.

Saw a few witnesses who pretty much corroborated the wife's testimony and the video as to the sequence of events. Some said that Chad was dropping F bombs and they could all here what he was saying but nobody could really here what Curtis was saying. Then they played the audio of Curtis Reeves questioning by police right after the shooting. Didn't really line up with the video at all. He said Chad came over the back of his seat and hit him while he was leaned back in his seat which enabled him to reach into his pocket for the gun and shot him. In the video you see him lean back momentarily before Chad's arm comes over the back of his seat. Chad grabs the popcorn and throws it at Reeves. Reeves immediately leans forward and shoots Chad. You never see anything but Chad's arm come over the seat. You never see Chad at all. Just his arm. Never got close enough to Reeves to hit him. You also never see Reeves holding up his left hand, trying to push Chad off of him like he said in the audio.

It will be interesting to see what kind of a case the defense puts on. Looks bad for Reeves but it usually does look bad for the defendant at this point. Self defense is a real stretch unless popcorn is considered a deadly weapon.

Day1 of defense. Their case seems to boil down to a few points.
1. That all the witnesses got together in the theater lobby and agreed on a story. (No evidence of this at all).
2. The video, which almost completely belies the defendants statement, cannot be relied on. (The video is the most impartial witness).
3. The detectives botched the crime scene investigation. ( Boiler plate guilty defendant defense tactic).
4. The victim was the aggressor and attacked the defendant. (Unfortunately this is partially true.)
5. The defendant was a feeble and scared old man. (This seems like they are admitting that the self defense claim would be a real stretch by normal standards).

Pretty slow start. Maybe they are saving the best for last.

They're running with the feeble old man who's a victim of his aggression.

I don't think it has enough legs to keep him out of prison

I know it's late and everybody is on the edge of their seat waiting for my synopsis of the testimony so here it is.
The two expert witnesses turned out to be "who gives a shit".
What baffles me is why the defense called Mrs. Reeves. She was a disaster. To me, between the two wives, she was the more truthful and it didn't help her husband at all. The prosecution should have called her.
Friday was not a good day for the defense and today was worse.

Mrs. Reeves strikes me as a person who just does not want to lie. Mrs. Oulson, not so much.

The last two days of defense witnesses just seems like the attorneys are milking the defendant out of whatever money he has left that his poor wife might need to live on.
Nobody knows how a jury will rule but that's how I see it.

Reeves testifies and tries to make the jury believe things that are not on the video and that none of the other witnesses corroborate. Then the prosecutor cross examines. He does a really bad job in my estimation. Almost like he was not at all prepared. As bad as the cross examination was, it still seems like Reeves will be convicted. Testimony is done now. Oulson's dickish behavior is the only thing the defense has going for them. It gives them a sliver of hope that the jury might believe that Reeves was afraid.

Jury has the case. Reeves should relish his last few days of freedom. Maybe not.

I almost don't care how the jury finds. I'm more saddened by what's left in the wake of testosterone dumbfuckery.

I'm not at all surprised with this acquittal. It's Florida, he's a retired cop, and the "Stand your ground" law can be interpreted in a multitude of ways. The fact that it took 8 years for trial, to me, was a strong indication of what the outcome would be.

I hope that old man has no peaceful days left in his future.

It was very quick. Most if not all the jurors had made up their minds well before the trial ended. Maybe the local papers will interview one or more. I would like to know what shut the door on a guilty verdict. An alternate was interviewed afterwards. They were not allowed in deliberations. He said Reeves was guilty.

I would have liked to think that an experienced law-enforcement officer (Ret.) would not be a part of turning someone texting during the previews of a film, Lone Survivor, into ending someone's life. I wonder what he would have done if the actual movie had started...

So a guy is dead, a child loses a father and a wife loses her husband, etc.

I guess Reeves wanted to be the...Lone Survivor.
