Why can't Carson Brown get a real ride?

I'm actually surprised out of amateurs Carson didn't get a full shot. He's been on decent equipment, but the teams don't have all the resources a factory does. You have to realize it's more than just a badass tech... well multiple (suspension/engine/electronics/chassis)....providing knowledge for your race bike. It's a practice mechanic, testing time in all departments, a guy constantly in the dyno room giving you exactly what you want, someone designing specific parts to try, etc. only dedicated to a few guys on your team. Not doing this to support you alongside running a business and developing and building for general customers. Plus of course budget of what's available.

What he has done is bettered his race craft. As an example, when Carson first came to SX, he struggled to survive a set of whoops. Now I'd say he's one of the non-factory guys who is solid in them. That's a massive improvement.

I don't know where he fits in, but I would like to see a team with more resources give him a real full time, full off season shot. Otherwise, he might be just as well building with a program like AEO who has a great platform and is just getting going. Hard to argue with their package when Carson and Kelley are both showing huge upside in a very new program.

We all know that if anyone of these guys got a Star ride. They would instantly get better. How much better? I couldnt tell you. Carson would be very good pickup for them if they wanted. I mean he did score points at Washougal Nat on a 250 2 stroke with a blown shoulder.

So what current factory rider in the 250 class are you cutting to put Carson Brown in?
How about Swoll who’s behind him in points or Thrasher who’s only 8 in front of him…wonder what the results would be if they switched equipment. IMO unless Thrasher does a complete turnaround he’s out at that team but obviously there’s a lot of guys who want that spot. Same for Swoll.

Thrasher is not out at Star. He started a little rocky but has shown podium speed the last few weeks. He has also had some bad luck outside of his control. They will keep him.

The only reason he’s sniffing the podium is all the guys out, same reason others say we can’t take much stock in Carson’s results…

Thrasher won two races his rookie season and Star benched him at the end of the season to avoid pointing out 4 years down the line... I don't think they are letting him go yet. Sure, they were speedway races but his form inside the stadium tracks looks much improved this year even his results don't show it. Thrasher is from TN and raced east coast tracks last year, he is learning to adjust to the west coast hard pack as well (maybe Star putting him on West coast is them looking to develop him further in a long-term approach vs putting him East where he is familiar, maybe it's just how injuries lined up with the season start?). He can only race who shows up, but I do feel like he needs to get a podium for Star to think it is a successful SX season, or at least finish out the races in the top 5.

As for Brown, if he keeps progressing and backing up his results then more teams will turn an eye towards him in the future. Again, they can only race who lines up; if the field is decimated I won't hold that against them. I do think he needs to be straight up passing a factory backed rider before he gets the actual looks for more than a possible fill in ride.

This is why I asked my question. It seemed to me that he's had speed when he's been able to run. Needs to develop in a structured program. Candidly a bit biased as I used to live in the PNW and always look out for those riders. Black, Harriman, Brown, and now Boesplug (sp?) . I'm sure there are others but I've watched these guys as local pros and want to see them get a shake.

Brown and Kelley are getting better every race, they are both talented kids.
The way I understood it was that Brown got his ride because Austin Black (who I want to watch cuz he's also a PNW guy) got hurt.

He needs to stay off the 2 stroke from here on out.

“When he’s able to run” might be the answer to your original question. put yourself in the shoes of a team owner who is looking at the whole field for potential riders. Carson Brown who you’re zeroing in on? Why? You’ve stated the reason you’re focusing on Carson, because he was kind of a local to you. But there’s more to getting attention from teams than being in 8th in a series that everyone is crapping on the points leader saying it’s a weak field.
