Cool tour video I found while hunting around YouTube today.

Little background, this shop was in Temecula, Ca...just right around the corner from Temecula Motorsports (if you've ever been in the area).

It was originally the L&M/San Manuel shop and belonged to Mike Kranyak. The layout and most of the equipment in it was done from when they were in possession of the shop. L&M eventually morphed into Jeff Ward Racing, which was on Kawasaki's of course.

Prior to TwoTwo's switch to green machines, during their Honda support they were based out of American Honda's HQ in Torrance, Ca. If I remember right, when Reed and Honda parted ways and the decision to go Kawasaki was locked in, he purchased all the leftover motors, bikes, and parts from L&M/JWR and started renting the building. Making the transition to Kawasaki a bit easier.

The amount of dollars spent had to be more than the income for that team.

Shop lease
payroll
parts
utilities
fuel
insurance

Who would be crazy enough to ever start their own race team?

When your a business man like Reed and have multiple incomes and assets from around the world.. Money wasnt really an issue.
With the investments he made in the early 2000's.. Two Two motorsports wouldnt have been much of a financial burden.

I don't want to speak for Brent, but I think his post was more busting ML's balls (not in a bad way) than it was looking for an answer to his question.

Maybe the reason they sold the amusement park and the water front, moved to NC and why you see Reed's kids on youtube and not Stewart's?

No sponsors would touch Reed, it's why he had to go it alone. Ever seen a top line racer without sponsors? Reed's arrogant attitude is the reason.

Seemed to have sponsors on board there by the looks of things. Maybe sponsors as in factories couldn't match or weren't willing to match what he wanted so he went it alone. Very successfully at that beating many factories.

Yeah no your completely wrong. Why is it that all of chads sponsors continued to stick by him even to this day? The only sponsor that actually left was Bel Ray and it was a financial decision.

Yeah I honestly would like to know of all of the teams in mx/sx, which of them are actually turning a profit. I would think maybe 25% IF that and I would be willing to bet its just the big factory outfits.

Moved to NC and bought a house on Lake Norman (water front) in a high end neighborhood. Bought an amusement park (Moto 40) and lets the public ride there (for a fee of course). Now, what was your point?

So that’s why his team had sponsors? Because he couldn’t get sponsors? Makes perfect sense.
I bet the reason he won races and titles is because he wasn’t a winner.

Would you put your kids and family on socials if you still had 20 millions?

Yes, because it helps build their brand, which will help make money in the future.

With the investments he made in the early 2000's.. Two Two motorsports wouldnt have been much of a financial burden.
Certainly Reed was and is quite wealthy, but TwoTwo was an enormous burden by his own admission. He spared no expense, particularly when it came to personnel.

There is a reason he went back to being a factory rider for Yamaha and JGR (so he could just race and cash checks), and why when he was forced to go the privateer route on the Husky and KTMs he didn't do it on anywhere the scale of TwoTwo.

he voiced on the gypsy podcast it was more mentally draining running his own team than it was financial.

Two Two Motorsports brought Discount Tire/America's tire into the sport. They eventually partnered with Feld and brought more money into the sport. Etnies stayed on as a large team sponsor, he brought Shift back into the sport in a big way with Fox. Ya no one wanted to work with the guy....

I think he's the one that brought cbdMD to the sport as well. First to his team and then Feld grabbed them.

This∆> . Chad said many times the stress of being a championship contending rider and a Team owner, not just manager, was enormous.

Also brought Bel-Ray back into the sport and helped talk Yamaha into starting their factory team up again. Goose, probably the most successful mechanic ever, chose to work and stay with him year after year, Mitch Payton has supported him his whole career, etc. etc, but yeah he’s so arrogant no one would work with him! 🤦‍♂️😂
