Aussies will appreciate the return of this much loved old brand. It was the gear to have in the 80s.

There’s a reason for that, it’s a throwback

Red Yamahas?
Even color goes different directions on the other hemisphere, I guess.

I know, I know. Just a bit of humor...(humour).

I dig the Marlboro design. Reminds me of a better day with racing.

Acutally they were dayglo orange. Fluro colours don't show up on film as they are in person hence the red look.

With the Rat gear, I was never a fan of the brand name.

BUT, the best thing about it's coming to be here in OZ was that we had, at the time, HUGE tariffs on gear imported here. I'm not sure if it were on all OS made gear, or just US.

For me, that 'Best Thing' was that JT pants were made for a time under license here by Rat. So, it became affordable and, you could get your name on the butt, And Rat and Rat made JT gear was very high quality. I've still got a pair I used for a few years, and they are still in really good condition. But, they seem to have shrunk, considerably, as surely it can't be that along with my now white beard, that I have become as Rotund as the typical Santa.....

Oh, from what I recall, a pretty significant part of the Marlboro Yamaha Teams budget, was consumed by the need to use an absolute sh**load of very expensive Fluoro Paint on the bikes. You could, at times - well much of the time - see it flaking off the bikes all through a moto.

Am I right in that Vince Tesoriero (sp?) was part of Go the Rat? Or, was it Tycon? Or, Both? He was one hell of a force within OZ Motorcycling, for many years, being the man behind Mr Motocross , the Castrol Six Hour and many other events.

Agreed. I don't like "the" in a name unless it's at the front. It reminds me of some other names I hate:

Cage the Elephant
Toad the Wet Sprocket
Batman the ride.

Back in the early 80’s, my GF and took the bus (too pricey to fly !) from West to East and as well as doing a few laps of Bathurst in a rentacar (too young to hire a brand name car so I had a lovely Sigma Wagon that kicked down to first to get up the mountain !), we travelled to Orange to the home of The Rat.

I was expecting something flash, but it was an industrial unit with no showroom like I was expecting. Anyway, Vince was there and he gave me some posters, I bought a few things and the factory visit was over. Well, at least it was made there ! So, yes, Vince was indeed in charge at that stage.

(Rat gloves and jersey in my profile pic plus Sinisalo pants that were super cheap I bought at the 83 500cc GP at Farleigh Castle in the UK.)

Ok, point conceded. I guess if it's a title, you're off the hook with me.
