Been on the gate with Hannah, Chuck Sun, Laporte, Tony D, Jammer, Billy Grossi, Jimmy Ellis and quite few others . I did the Winter-AMA Florida series and the Nats and the qualifying rounds . Also, some of the top Euros of the day. No I never beat any of the "names" . Pulled a few holey's in my day, but always faded like an old newspaper . It is a real eye opener to experience the difference between "fastest local Pro" and the REAL guys.... I realized quickly the only way I was making money in this game was to race the local big money races , lol.

Dungey, PJ Larson, AMart, Chiz, Kiniry etc. Raced Am nats in the 00s. I remember Dungey at Branson on his shiny new RMz 250. Did a FCA riding cap in Indiana in 05 with Sipes, Buckelew and a few other big names at the time. Growing up in Oklahoma Marley, Reynard, Cory Green, Humprey, Nichols, Bogle, Robbie Smith, Terren Odell all those guys were around. Heck even the Wharton bros used to come race the Oklahoma State Races. Nichols used to ride at my house when he was on 85s haha. I think the first time I realized I wasnt going to make it pro was at Colt Humpreys AX track I frame cased a step on/step off and thought I had died...never was the same after that

Got to do a few pro races in Europe that included FIM World Champs Heinz Kinigadner and John Van den Berk, plus Kees Van der Ven, several 125 SX races that meant lining up with Bob Moore, Trampas Parker, Mike Healey, Larry Brooks, Eddie Warren, Rodney Barr and more... And a single 125 National ('85 High Point) that included Erik Kehoe, Ron Lechien, Guy Cooper, George Holland, Ricky Ryan and more. Didn't score a point but I qualified and lined up for the motos!

Amateur 05-07 definitely sucked in the intermediate class. I was always part of the 'best of the rest'.

Villopoto, Stroupe, Izzi, Dungey, Canard, Hill, Wharton (both of em), Alessi for a time, PJ Larsen and others I'm drawing a blank on. Was terrible knowing those guys were behind you. For me, it wasn't a matter of if but when I'd get passed, even if they fell and are 10 spots back.

I've posted this photo a few times on here, it was rad to line up beside the fastest mini rider in the world at the time, especially at a sand track like Baja Acres, RIP Swinkster

Justin Brayton, Teddy Maier, Gavin Faith, Cody Gilmore, and maybe Chad Pederson but I don't remember. I would just get the heck out of their way when they went by. Teddy Maier used to do a riding/camping thing at his place in Fort Dodge, Iowa and there were a lot of good riders that would be there. I just focused on hitting a couple of his massive jumps. They always went straight to the moon but were relatively soft if you came up short.

Fort Dodge has always had fast guys. I was just a half lap behind them.
Awesome, I think Roger Burman builds hot rods now if I'm not mistaken. Pretty good builder too. Did you ever race against Tracy Bachman? I did a harescramble that ran multiple classes at once. Him and Scott Mericle were hauling ass on that track. I came up to a ravine and assumed you just coast down it, they launched off it and landing at the bottom, almost face planted into the uphill on the other side. I'm not sure what the motocross scene is like up there now. I'm sure there are still some good riders since there is a decent OHV park in town.

Tony DiStefano lined up next to me at Crooms during the 87/88 Florida winter series. He asked me about the new 88 RM250 I was riding for the first time, he was still on his 87.

Rode on the track and raced them when I was younger and they where young . I have ridden and raced Denny in the last few years. Rode with Dungeys when they where younger, and the Martins.

I have been lapped by several national champs and lots of factory riders. Blush

Well, at Hollister January 77 my 250 novice class was gated before open experts, and Bad Brad was lined up behind me on his new ride factory Honda waiting on my gate (as gates go for a rubber band start).

That's all I got. But, hey, when the gate dropped for my class I could honestly can say I roosted on a world champion. Laughing

Here I was at Saddleback golden state series 1984, I look over and see Glover, Lachine, Ward, Bier, Barnett, Johnson and OShow…..then the gate dropped! I started with most of the top riders form 83 and 84 I got passed by all of them as I was a great starter. As a local pro we get to line up with greats but raced with them not so much.

Living in the same region and sharing local clubs, Chad Reed, Craig Anderson, Danny Ham, and at some other events Jay Marmont (Junior State Titles) Shane Watts at a Stadium MX, along with Reed (I nearly ran over him when he fell in the first corner) Paul Broomfield (RIP) Jono Porter (RIP) Mitch Hoad (RIP)... Many other notable Aussie riders.

I don't remember Bachman racing down at the track by the river. If he did he was way ahead of me.

* Plus heard about Suzuki testing their new RM (was TM) at Carlsbad
and tested them alongside Bob Hannah. All Japanese mechanics and
engineers and just assumed I belonged... That was fun!

National hare and hounds don’t count…but if they do: Destry Abbott, KC66, Ricky Brabec, Taylor Robert, Skyler Howes, Kendall Norman, And several others…when they start the pros and the A class on the same row…I can usually keep them in sight for about 50-60 feet off the line…lol
