Yeah-- I actually emailed them twice about that, a month or so ago---zero reply. Maybe I'll try again

Same result here..
Wanted to update-- I emailed Lance at XCgear and he replied within an hour. We found a set of Mako360's thats close to working on my 74 Mag Husky with the billet triples I'm using. Just need to make a couple more measurements and also modify the top clamp slightly , but I think I'm going to give them a try.

Ya'll may have sent those emails during his transition into the new building. He's a good dude I've been knowing
him for over 30 years.Glad you got something in the works for your old Husky

X2.

Lance at XC Gear is a solid guy. XC Gear has been growing super fast, then throw in the pandemic, bam, problems - just like for everyone else. I had to wait months to get my parts due to supplier & anodizer issues, and I frequently contacted them to get an update, but he was always honest and proactive.

I think he also runs another business, so his time is stretched pretty thin, FYI, but he'll deliver.

Spin some laps on a CR500 before, then it’ll seem like it hardly vibrates at all

True.

But, things like a PHDS system ( I've WP forks on my 500), Soft grips, and , more importantly, a relaxed pair of hands holding them makes things fine.

That final point, is the key on any bike, with a bit of vibes to it..

So Bear, out of curiosity (and because you know a bit!) could you make a CR500 not vibrate if the crank (and other internal stuff) was balanced? Would that actually make any difference?

I recall reading that Eric Geboers tried every RC500 crank they had before the season started in order to select the most vibration-free.

If you hadn't put Eric Geboers' testing and snaffling ( and running the cranks far longer than HRC wanted / specified Whistling ) the 'good' cranks, I would have mentioned it to you. It's up on MXWorksbikes.com site, for any others here that want to read it, plus many other things, if Terry Good has kept them available.

Not that I know much, but, in theory, well, reality, a single piston crank (without a counter balancer) can only be balanced to 'perfection' in one rev point. You pic that point, and live with the consequences.... But, you know that, Roberto.

I've a genuinely knowledgeable bloke, when it comes to engines, that really disparages Hondas' use of 'tinned' cranks. He reckons the 'tinnings', set up their own vibrations, and he's used non tinned cranks on many of his bikes that had them, including CR500s. It's not hard to see his point, and I'll probably get a non tinned, billet crank when / if my 500 does a crank.

Something of note is when I put on KTM 450RR foot pegs on the bike ( much lower, and much longer, to suite my non bending knees / bent legs), and used bolts instead of pins, to mount them, so there was absolutely no slop / clearance, foot peg and lower frame vibes basically disappeared. I guess those big hefty suckers had a different 'tune' to them.

The old girl is up to (probably well past, as I've not had an odometer on it all the time - that weird little alloy thing in the picture is a holder for my tiny speedo, and switches for the fans and, after that picture, the Electric Start ) 30,000 Ks . It's plated, and I've had it for near on 2 decades , but everything is still holding together, with only 1 rebore. Mind you, that's probably because it gets barely above 3K RPM in my local trails........

I use nyloc nuts and washers on all the engine bolts, and a dab of loctite on most other bolts. My steel frame needs no shims to take up clearances on the engine, though I've seen that need on so many bikes. Nothing comes loose on the old girl, other than the LH seat bolt. That little blighter needs a wary eye kept on it, even with Loctite, and a spring washer / large, thick washers under the bolt head - it wants to go Awol, quite often, the ratbag of a thing.Dizzy
