Okay Alph, here it is, located in Beaumont, Tx. Was asking $3500.00, he'll take $3000.00. Has maybe 2-3 hours time on it and a new shiny FMF SST pipe and silencer. I would be more than happy to help crate it up if someone wanted to have it shipped. I'll be out of town for the next couple days and won't be checking in so you guys can think about it for a few days! If anyone is serious, PM me and I'll forward his info. Not going to post it here.

Hey i didn't mean to post a dealers info I just wasnted to show that there were some avail brand new, I thought it was a little high as well but they are one of the few down here that has them. I know a dealer in Santa Ana that has a lot of over 10 06 and up RM250's and 125's including the RC replicas

Suzuki's 86 RM 80: No more Mr. nice guy. That is sweet. My 86 RM 80 was a fire breather. I was and still am pissed that I had to move up to big bikes. Nothing beats being a kid and racing an 80.

I have both bikes and to me its like riding 2 different brands of bikes. The 04 had a weaker motor and feels much more cramped. The 06 has a roomier feel to it and the suspension was much better in stock form. The 06 does ping a lot but fixing the sensor air gap does cure it somewhat. It also pushes the front end more but overall its a much better bike.
That is a pretty good assessment if you ask me but it somewhat goes down to preference rather than performance. I for one have and 04' and I like it better than the 05 and 06. I have an 07 that is waiting for me to be healthy in just a few more weeks and I can't wait. I'll know a little more then but the biggest difference is the size of the new bikes. I blame it on these damn 4 strokes being so huge. I swear, put my 07' next to my 04' and the damn thing is 4 inches taller. I can just barely touch tip toed on the 07'. Just like a damn 450. I'm 5'9". I don't know why they have to make them so big.
For me preference is the biggest issue. I prefer the smaller 04' that I can whip around and man handle a little better. It just gives me a better touch and more overall feel of control.

Motor wise, the 04' isn't no slouch by no means. It can feel tame if the timing is retarded in the middle of the adjustable range. I run mine advanced to the max adjustable range and it makes it pipey. Honestly, I've rode the 05' - 07' RM's and YZ's that everyone always talks about and I think they are tamer than the 04' KX. To each their own. I'm not dissing, just my opinion.
If the 04' fits you size wise it is an excellent bike. It is a smaller bike (like they used to be) and I think that is something that has been missing in recent years.

I had one too. When I got it I could only touch with one foot on tippie toes, and by the end of the year I had to move up to 125s b/c I had outgrown it. We had every problem under the sun with mine though. Stator went out, floats stuck, warped the head (my fault). Well maybe it was all my fault. My dad made me do all my own work on it.

I never had much trouble with mine but I did also warp the head. Same as you I think I did it with the wrench. 12 year olds and wrenches seem to have that effect. I had it shaved and it turned out to be a blessing in the long run. One of my favorite bikes. To hell and back many times.

I found this 2004, ridden a couple times, the bike is literally brand new. $2500 and I can have it tomorrow. What do you guys think? Remember, I am a Vet-C guy and probably will just be riding it, not much racing.

I have 05 kx its got alot of power. The problem with the 05 is that it doesn't get good mileage otherwise it is a great bike.If your racing it you will get alot of holeshots. If your trail riding you will be checking gas alot.I would wait for a 05 or 06. If the hit is too hard you can play with the timing and mess with your sprockets to mellow it out.

I think you'll be selling it in three months and getting another 450. Grinning You're an incorrigible bike churner, Alph. The thrill of the hunt may have more pull than the thrill of the ride.

You might be right, kind of. I haven't ridden a big bike in over 3 months. I really don't miss it, maybe my time has passed.

I saw this jgmx guy pull a HUGE holeshot at Comp Edge, which has a long uphill start, on that 05 against a gate of 450's.

Alph, as long as you're having fun with it, have fun with it. There's nothing wrong with churning bikes, especially if your buying and selling a decent prices. I like spending your money vicariously. Smile

I think alph should get back on a big bike and not worry if he turns around and sells it in the near future, therefore, I feel compelled to play captain obvious here...

Buying a gently used 2 strokes for a good price and then selling it for the same price or more is a hell of a lot easier on the pocketbook than buying a new expensive 4 stroke and then eating a whole lot of depreciation when you unload it a year later. This is especially true when the person involved can have just as much fun on the sweet 2 stroke!

Mooch is the voice of reason! I'll find something, keep your eye open for me. The '04 bugged me because it was so clean, if it was an '05 I would have it already.

You know how hard it is to find a clean used dirtbike!

I would jump on that '04!
