Bike was brought from dealership broken in, setup and tuned on dyno running c-12/927 at 40.1. Bike has 23 hours on it and motor popped at unadilla this past weekend. I have a new top end I wanted to put in before the race but couldn’t do to be bombed at work and figured it would last one more race. Curious how many hours people run on a 125 before changing top ends? My kid is not on the pipe constantly and I was kind of shocked it let go at 23 hours

Woohoo Laughing

A pretty savage rip at the OP's expense, but funny.

I have the same bike. I run it hard and went 25 hrs on the first piston. Looked fine when I swapped it.

I'd guess you either sucked dirt or something broke out of the ordinary. I'd be interested to hear what these dyno-tuned settings are.

I've done mysterious pistons at 25 hours. Full engine rebuild at 100. My bike has done a total of 230 hours with these intervals. 2016 KTM 125, now a 150.

What went at 22 hours? Piston and plug photos?

I’m crazy at work right now but will tear it down this week. Took the pipe off at track and piston and rings looked fine but I’m wondering if a piece of the skirt broke or possibly wrist pin bearing disintegrated???

Yeah, something has to be amiss, these new bikes go for a lot longer than the older bikes used to.

Plus, they make so much power, they would never achieve that working inefficiently and wearing parts out.

Worse than I thought, main bearing in the bottom end. Plug actually looked to be running rich. Change the air filter after every ride and change tranny oil after every 2 rides. Don’t know what the hell happened

See if the dealer will help you out. With less than 30houts they might help you

Ya, ran with no premix or this dyno tuner was far off perhaps.

I had a 2014 or 15 XC 300 grenade crank bearings for no reason, bike had about 20-30 hrs, ruined crank, cylinder, top end ect. KTM paid for the parts, I paid the dealer labor. I called KTM, the dealer verified the main bearing failure, The KTM rep & I were at an impasse & I Said “ how about you pick up parts bill at the dealer & I pay the labor” …. The rep said “ that sounds good” …. Not sure what your situation is but, if you get a dealer involved you may get some help with the rebuild.
