Just had this drop into a Whats-Ap group but I can't find anything on Gatedrop.com about it. Sad day if it's true, he is a living legend of our sport.

Tony Cairoli has nothing to prove to anybody. He’s still capable of beating the fastest riders in the world at an age well past where most riders have retired due to loss of ability to run with the younger guns. He has a lovely wife, a child, and has amassed a fortune that will allow his family to live well for the rest of their lives.

I’m guessing he’s just tired of the damned grind. Congratulations, TC222…you’ve earned it.

One of the best ever no doubt. He's earned it.

No such article to be found on Gatedrop's facebook page. Somebody pulled the trigger too early?

That's what I thought.

Let's wait for a reliable source before we jump to conclusions.

Interesting wording if true, ‘the end of his mxgp career’ maybe I’m missing more of the headline but it sounds like he plans to keep doing some kind of racing from that title. Maybe 4 wheels.

If true, he’s earned this day and then some. He’s winning against some of the world’s fastest at an age where I’d have been stoked to win Vet B at Chicken Licks Raceway, lol.

He will and should be remembered with all the greats of the sport. Amazing career and from all accounts sounds like a fine human being.

Impressive how he chased down Prado in Turkey. Love watching the way he rides. Selfishly, he's too damn good to retire! Between him and Rossi it's the end of an era.

Pretty sure I saw an interview in german magazine already a few months ago where he said this is his last season.

I hope it’s not true, and if it is, I cross my fingers he can collect another trophy at the end of the season and hopefully his 10th title

If it is true and that media outlet has leaked the news early (I'm sure they'll all be in the know) then that's pretty lame and disrespectful to Toni.

I find it interesting to say the least... He obviously is riding much better and healthy this year. The guy is just an animal and I would love for him to come to the US for the nationals since MM25 is SX only next year. Either way, he has deserved everything he has worked for.

He'll never come to America. He's made a ton of money in MXGP, has won more than his share of championships, and has a huge fanbase. Why would he come here to be hated on by American social media, get flipped or booed at the tracks and generally disrespected like most every rider that has ever come here from Europe before him. He's a smart guy...he stays in his lane.

Yeah, it would suck to see him put up with the hate that Ken Roczen has to deal with at every track.

I agree that he would never come to America full time to race...but I don't think he would be disrespected by fans here. I think most people here in the states have respect for him. It would be awesome to see him hit a few outdoor nationals.

Roczen, Musquin, Ferrandis...and many before them have all put up with it, until they started smoking the majority of our riders.

It's just like the group of people who say, "I wish Herlings would come here". Never happen. Stamp it.;

Huh? The French get unfairly ridiculed but that’s it. Roczen is the face of the sport and the most popular rider we have taking that crown from Reed who also was not American. Reed at first was not as loved but he did that to himself. AC would be worshiped by a majority. I agree he would never come over nor should he but to claim that the media and fans wouldn’t go bat shit crazy for him is idiotic.

If true, I'm not surprised... Such a seriously talented racer and long ass career. I told my wife as we were watching a GP earlier this year that a couple of times I didn't think Tony had 100% of his normal speed... But then came back and ran up front for most of the next moto. It wasn't a negative on Tony, just an observation. Awesome dude and world class. One of the best to ever do it.

As much as I'd love to see Antonio win his 10th this year, I don't think it will happen Sad . But, not without him trying, valiantly.

Just imagine the celebrations if Italy win the MXDN.......Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo

That, would be a wonderful thing to happen, and a grand Title for AC to finally get, if he indeed does retire at the end of this year.

Idiotic...not at all. I do agree, to a point. But, as much of a hero as he is to so many MXGP fans...what is the possibility that Tony would come here, and not do well? I mean, there is a huge difference between racing there and racing here. On top of every other reason that he would never come here...the possibility that he wouldn't make the splash many might think he would.
