Godspeed Pete and to all of his family and friends..... nothing but positive vibes, compassionate thoughts and uplifting prayers depending on your beliefs.

That being said......if when it comes time for me to punch my time card because my work here is done and my exit route is via a heart attack, brain aneurysm or some other sudden catastrophic physical issue and not as a result of some crash related injury...... I can think of no better way to go out than while on a track as long as I don't injure anyone else.

I think and hope my family and friends would take solace in knowing that I was doing what I loved when my time came and although the physical demands of moto may have triggered the event that it wouldn't have been much longer if I wasn't racing and that racing probably helped to extend for a bit my time with them.

RIP Pete

I was shocked and devastated to get the call at roughly 5pm yesterday about Pete Collins (Pete24) death at NHMX. He was one of my oldest racing buddy's and just a long time great friend and sponsor of mine. I've known him since 1981. I've probably talked with 75 or so people since yesterday and we're all just devastated and numb. He was truly one of the great guys and a great person. I still can't believe that he's gone. I spoke with him on Sat about a ride day that was happening today and then again at 3pm yesterday to doublecheck if I could go. Little did I know that roughly after his 3:03pm text reply to me that he'd be dead an hr later. It's just not fair. You will NOT find a person with a bad word to say about him. RIP old friend..... :-( :-(
Digger I am really sorry to hear about the loss of Pete24. I always enjoyed his posts and he seemed like one of the great ones that all of us have had the pleasure of knowing at the track. Godspeed Pete24!

Lots of people getting hauled out of unadilla this weekend. I made the trip from Ohio and left with a dislocated shoulder (not the tracks fault but another rider)

I don't think the track is to blame for most of these - but watering the first turn moments before the gate drops is a pretty bonehead move.

The track was super fast this weekend with very few ruts but some massive bomb hole breaking bumps that could really catch you off guard if you didn't see them.

I tend to lean towards the rip it deep and slow people down line of thinking. Thoughts going out to everyone that was hurt this weekend. Motocross is brutal sometimes.

Also the turnout was insane. 500 C riders!

Yeah maybe they should slow it down for safety. I wont spend a dime there nowadays the nostalgia is long gone...

I have been going to Unadilla since 1982. First time racing on the Pro track was in 93. I always loved that track when it was a natural terrain GP style track. The track used to get super rough, line selection, momentum and rider conditioning were keys to success. Over the years they have incorporated some pretty big jumps, I get that for the National, as those guys can handle it. I think for the Amateur and vintage races the big booters should be mellowed back to natural terrain, which I believe they do to some degree. The other factor is track prep. When they rip it really deep and water the he’ll out it, the track gets deep ruts sometimes even in all the straights. If they don’t rip it, the track is almost like a true hard pack track and when watered the surface becomes very slick. As many times as I have raced on that track it is still a mystery as to what the track surface will actually be like. Sometimes I really like it, other times I can’t get off it fast enough.

I honestly didn’t know Pete well, but I do remember parking next to him by happenstance back in …14? At crow hill for an nesc race. Could not have been a nicer dude, didn’t know me from a hole in the wall and he was shooting the shit with my girlfriend and I all day and always seemed to be helping someone out. Wish I’d have gotten to know him better. RIP Pete

RIP Pete-like many, I didn’t know you, but what I saw of you on here spoke volumes. Seemed like you were routinely posting helpful info for folks.

TC, you posted something really important. Over the years, I have given numerous tubes, levers and the like to folks so they could continue the day. Unless they insist, I don’t want a dime. I fully believe in the idea that I might someday need something and hope that others would do the same. The fact that all these years later you remember Pete for that says a lot about the impact we can have with something that seems simple at the time.

I raced my 83 YZ250 there at vintage days about 3-4 years ago. Seemed perfectly fine to me?

Could it be these Bikes are getting to fast for the everyday rider?

I was there too and I didn’t do any of the jumps on my 97 RM 250. If I was on my 18 RMZ 450 I would’ve tried all of them except maybe the downhill double opposite the cavity. To me, that is the difference.
