Bad news. We lost, the Democrats won. ICE will cease production in our lifetime. Every auto and moto OEM in the world is focused on electric now. Honda looks like their engines are going to win the F1 championship this year and they are quitting F1 to focus resources on going all electric. California is banning 2022 motorcycle from public land.

Good news. The Alta MXR is amazing. The other moto OEMs can build the equivalent or better than Alta, and will be selling them soon. Battery technology will improve and in the near future you will probably be able to ride all day without needing a charge.

Even better news, we all get to continue ride and race motorcycles.

Also when you go to buy a emx-bike you essentially could ride it as a 125 class 250f class 450f class depending on the computer set up you select.. I would think it would be cheaper to manufacture eventually since you could run the same parts/frame/e-motor for any class you would like to race (no need for different bikes)
They did that with the Hydrospace stand up jet ski. Different tunes for different classes. Just turned into the big money teams developing a transmitter to change "tunes" mid race.

Maybe you don't get it, but Honda is going to do to IC engines what they did to 2t's. A bunch of green goo guzzlers.

They left flat track, then AMA road racing and whatever else doesn't suit them, now F1. Every promoter swings from their nut sack, "please don't leave us". I'm done with it.

Can you finish one on a stock gas tank with no top-offs?

A month ago you were corrected about your misconception of "max torque at zero RMP" an yet here you are spewing the same line. Jeez..
where? this I gotta read, it's a physics thing.

You can’t, but in 30 seconds you can add $6 worth of fuel and finish the race.

Electric motors just aren't as ridable as gas..... when you are getting max torque at zero rpm, and that is a LOT of torque, you have to tone things down via software to make them more ridable... then you end up with a wonky "powerband" of sorts....

Love how quiet they are for certain areas, but enormous amount of wonky power does not make for a great track bike.... then the recharge and cool down times...... electric does have its place... but actually racing MX might not be one of them....
This is so far from the truth. You need to ride an Alta. The power is so controllable and smooth.

Very true.
But if electric MX batteries are anything like e-mtb or Nio car batteries, in about 45 seconds you can swap out batteries for $0.50 worth of electricity and finish the race

Yes, you may be able to swap out batteries that cost thousands of dollars. How long it will take, you and I have no idea, if that will even be an option.

Huh Huh Huh

Current e-bike batteries go for about $500. Safe to double that cost for an e-MX. So, $1,000 or the cost of a Ti exhaust system. So you buy the bike and an extra battery and you are good to go.

If you can swap out an entire electric car battery (see Nio) in under five minutes... I don't think it will be too terribly long for a dirtbike.

What's fascinating about that quote is that, for the longest time, the horse supporters were winning that argument. It took the invention and implementation asphalt and culverts to finally seal the victory for cars and trucks over live animals - and the same will be true with electric motocross bikes. We cannot see the future, but anyone who's ridden an electric bike will tell you it's only a matter of time. We're one or two inventions away from the victory being sealed. In the future, no pro-level motocrosser will have a clue how to shift, but that's only a big deal to those of us who do. I can't ride a horse, and I have no interest in learning how to, because I have a truck.

Same shit, different century.

Well, let's just say I'm happier buying a Ti pipe.
BTW, if I remember well, a KTM Freeride battery is somewhere around 3500$...

Noise is a major issue, both for missing the sound of ICE bikes but also for a whole lot of people outside the US. In Europe there are regularly tracks closed down for good, tracks which have stood for a decade or two on a willing person's own land, due to noise complaints from Karen dead set on nobody having any fun just a couple of Saturdays a month... the E Bike angle fixes that, it'll open up a ton on riding opportunities to many people.

Also, surely the recreational or racing sectors have very little impact on climate change in the grand scale of factories and transport, hell even dragging bikes or racecars and parts to events and test days will count for 100 times the pollution of spinning some laps.

I love those sick factory team big rigs as much as the next guy, but wouldn't cleaner vehicles for transporting the teams motorsports efforts would be far more beneficial?

Either way, I'm not against electric bikes, electric mountain bikes are plenty of fun, but like most I absolutely despise the idea of losing ICE bikes all together, especially when they're only used a few hours a week if that.

Ever think about how cool a 125 sounds ripping a whoop section? Now you'll hear chain slapping and grunts from the rider trying not to swap.. A moto will sound like a soccer game with riders swearing and yelling at each other. No more pit boards. You can mention what place your rider is in as he rolls by. I'll bet they go to a belt drive because it will be quieter. Tuning your bike will be switching maps not putting a Vforce in your cylinder. You won't be going to Eric Gorr for a big bore kit. You'll be emailing some 16 year old Indian kid from Dehli instead to write you a custom software. The pits will have the most noise of the whole event from generators running to charge batteries. EBikes are coming fast. We will be wishing for a 2st vs 4st debate soon. I don't like non of it. I want box vans back and a 125 class
Soon has one of the big manufacturers makes a competitive one. Its all over.

The battery for the KTM E5 or whatever it’s called is $850. The Alta battery if I remember correctly was around $2500. You’re dreaming.

Huh

Oh yeah, because he's a totally dishonest zealot spreading fake news to promote the cause...

Clearly you’re reading comprehension could use some work. I was replying to the poster saying batteries will only be $1000 by giving the example of the mini battery being almost $1000. You’re clueless.
