First outdoor National, camping at Budd's Creek. Any tips/pointers?

I'm sure this topic has been discussed in the past, but wanted some up-to-date opinions.

Wife and I are going to Budd's this year. Always said we would get to a national but never pulled the trigger, been to a few SX's in Atlanta though. We're meeting up with some friends and, after looking at AirBnB's in the area, we decided camping is a better option and bound to be more fun anyways.

We do zero camping, we don't have tents or anything. It'll be mid-August so we know it's gonna be hot. Any tips for camping out that an otherwise first-timer might not think of?

I’ve done many years camping out of an enclosed trailer with no AC or bathroom. About 5 years ago I started getting a few friends together and renting an RV for the Budds national. It makes the experience so much better having a place to clean off, air conditioning, and a clean toilet. At this point I wouldn’t do it any other way.

If you can swing it, I’d go the RV or camper trailer rental route. There’s a lot of different options these days with varying costs.
If you go the tent route, in addition to the usual camping gear, I’d definitely bring a box fan or two to keep some air moving and bring a power source. They do have an area for tent camping in the field past the dirt oval track.

maybe im a baby, but there doesnt seem to be anyway to make tent camping enjoyable in the summer. No amount of fans can make it cool.

In 2019 it was very hot and humid for the Budd's National. We stayed in a small RV trailer with the AC cranked and it still was hot. This year staying in a hotel in Dahlgren. The VIP camping is the first area on the left after you come in the gate, I believe the standard camping is way in the back past the oval track. It was pretty quite in the VIP camping area with plenty of space.

Just a suggestion since you were also looking into Air B&B's and presumably were okay spending the night(s) away from the tracks:

If you do tent camp- you might want to look into an actual campground near the track. In general, an established campground will most often have some options for planting your tent in a shadier area (as opposed to in a fields at the track).
You will also likely have shower houses, bathrooms with running water, and possibly even running water and electric at your site.
You can still enjoy camping in the summer but have some basic comforts too.
I guess I'm showing my age, but I need & enjoy the space and amenities away from the track.
If you end up renting an RV as was also suggested, you might want to still consider a campground.

I'm from the general area but don't have any campgrounds to suggest offhand as I've never camped in that area... However- I do camp and covid has really increased the numbers out camping. So between that, the fact that it is summer, and other race fans camping nearby- you might want to book soon to get something if you do go this route.
You also have lots of attractions and history in the area to take in before/after the race if you hang around.

Regardless what you end up doing, have a blast and enjoy your 1st National with you wife and friends... I've been going to Budd's since the first one in 1989... You picked a good one to go to.

One final suggestion- if you've never been to a pro outdoor mx and are getting old like me- bring ear protection / ear plugs!! LoL!!

Spend a lot of time outside before the race, takes about 7-10 days to get acclimated to the heat. Tent camping is fun, but there’s a lot of stuff you need. You may not be able to find all the basic camping stuff. Every time you go camping , you learn more. Buy more stuff and have more fun. If it rains you get wet in a tent. 3-4 gallons of water per day, per person.

Stay as far away from Baltimore as you can. I would sleep in a hammock in a mosqiuto infested swamp (which is essentially Budds Ceek) before ever returning to Baltimore. About a dozen hookers had a gang bang party next door at hotel. Bright side is that the Natl. absloutely rules.

I camped in a tent during the 2020 Loretta's National and raced amateur day. Very hot and humid spot. Best thing I did was bring a Milwaukee fan and run it on high all night. Worst decision I made was to camp by an RV with a harbor freight generator. Lol. But seriously though, if I camp in a tent again I would just be more strategic with the camp site location.
