No loss. Its not like they were using riders live helmet cam footage during the race broadcast. Hell they cant even put a couple cameras at ground level to properly capture the action.

If you had the chance to watch the privateer youtube series "Driven to Ride" you would see the prpoer way to make a video. It takes zero gopro footage. Zero. Might actually have to show the human side of what it takes. Nothing has come close since.
I’ve seen it, very well done. Again, the original question will stand. What does anyone gain from this?

I like Davey and believe he has the best interest of the sport. The nationals are amazing and we don’t want them going away.

It forces everyone to produce real content. Shit that matters. Hopefully not the still shot crap aj puts out.

Well these were cool while they lasted. So long, epic content.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the way the footage looks on the old Gopro with 30fps and no stabilization really helps to convey the gnarliness of motocross. Now when you watch a Gopro it looks far too smooth and stable, just my 2 cents on them.

Probably my favourite Gopro video there is, it doesn't get much better than that!

Pros and Cons

If they could make a mount system where on impact the Go Pro dislodges it'll be a different story, once those fuckers are on they don't budge at all

If you read the OP's link it states you must get approval for any onboard camera. So who's to say they approve a handlebar or chest protector mounted camera. Plus the footage must meet their terms and conditions, that's the money grab part. No more full moto video's only a 60 second shot so again the privateer's trying to tell their story and make a buck can't.

Why have exclusive rights when anyone can tape it and put it on youtube?

100% agree.. watching RV's old GoPros and they way he rode that Kawi was violent. The new ones with the stabilization tech make it look awful... No sense of speed or perspective of how gnarly the track is, it's definitely not the same

1. We’ve been over this 100 times. A camera strapped to your helmet makes it more dangerous. Period. Doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to figure that out.

2. If you’re a privateer and the main content for your Vlog is helmet cam footage then you need to get more creative cause your shit is boring. Nobody wants to watch more than a lap of onboard footage unless it happens to be some crazy battle. Same goes for 10 minutes of practice footage from the stands at a SX...yawn.

Video captured is still evidence of anything that someone wants to prove. I believe the AMA loves having control. You have video, and you take some of their control. Do i think that helmet mounted cameras are the best idea? Probably not, but if you don't require people wear chest protectors or show proof of insurance or self insurability, then claiming its a safety issue is asinine. Digital content is the big $$ winner now. A guy can be a privateer and barely make a main event, but if he is smart enough/creative enough to get a huge IG or YT following, he can make a nice living....and the AMA can't do a damn thing about it...unless they control the content.

Those of you who keep going on about this being to “keep the riders down” please tell me how that benefits the AMA, Feld, MX Sports or anyone else y’all love to shit on?

Exactly how do they benefit by “screwing the privateers”?

More money more moxey...more likely to form a union or any other thing to affect AMA control. Other cameras should be allowed, but they aren't. Merch sales should be allowed, but they aren't. Have you ever looked at the people running the AMA and outside of a FEW who have a clue, it is a Good ol boys club

Because a helmet cam is not at all the same video quality a proper sports show can be. But I guess it's easier and cheaper to eliminate competition than improve the product.

And is this good ol' boys club getting rich by keeping riders poor? Really? You seriously believe that?

Firstly, this decision I believe is a safety one. Helmets are designed specifically to deal with impacts. A camera stuck on them is a problem with regard to pressure and that kind of thing. They are pretty much banned in karting too and no one is making money off karting broadcasts as there isn't any really.

However, in terms of copyright, and broadcast ownership, the rights holders are causing themselves issues if they don't enforce their ownership. So while it is most probably a safety issues, the rights holders do have to enforce what they 'own'.

The fim banned them a few years back but then never enforced it at professional level sx and Mxgp

Basically the reasoning was that the helmets did not pass the safety standard with the camera and or mounts fitted ,

You also need a full time filmer to prosuce something like that.

Cheaper for fuys to run a go pro and mix in 3rd part footage where possible.

NBC/Peacock has the broadcast rights.

None of this is new, we all grew up with our tickets saying "No Audio/Video allowed"
Who said that changed?

It didn't. It's the same rules that's been around all our lives, because someone owns the video rights to the event. It applies to everyone, even teams. For years, teams have been required to get their video camera/guy approved for internal use on raceday. The cameras have a sticker showing it's approved. They have rules on their use of that video, because video rights are owned by NBC.

Why have or pay for exclusivity if the promoter is just going to ignore my broadcast rights I paid for? Quality is irrelevant. When posted is irrelevant.

Anyone think Dana White would allow fighters or their crew to video tape fights and just toss them up on youtube for free? It's the same thing.

What if an NFL player decided on their own to wear a camera and put it all on the internet the next day? How would the NFL react to that? It's the same thing.

If this was about safety, we wouldn’t be racing 450’s.

If this was about safety, the track wouldn’t be lined with wooden stakes.

If this was about safety, the chain link fence at Budd’s would be gone.

If this was about safety, the metal scoring pylon that Canard sent Villo into would be gone.

If this was about safety, supercross triples would have tabletop landings.

If this was about safety, the rule wouldn’t be written by a lobbying group that fights for the choice to not wear a helmet.

This is not about safety. Do not think for one single second this is about safety.

Insurance issue. If you knowingly allow a known hazard you can be sued for it. Its always a combination of your track and their outside factors.

Ok, then how come they are banned at all AMA event from Amateur to Pro? They wanna control the video rights at Chicken Licks Raceway too?

If this was about “control” only, wouldn’t they only be banned at Pro events?

Couldn’t somebody design a magnetic mounting plate to mount the cameras to? It could be something really flat. In an impact with any kind of twist or shear it’d probably just pop straight off and not really effect the crash performance of the helmet..I dunno, just a thought.

That's not what it says. Only helmet cams are prohibited.

As far as the $ is concerned
It says that you can post 2 60 clips for a total of 2 mins and you have to tag the motocross handle. Seems fair to me. They can still vlog about their day and then include the onboard footage.

I can understand why it not allowed to mount it on top of the helmet. You can totally feel the weight of it on heavy landings etc

If it is about safety then why no mandatory body protection?? Protect your feet and head, the rest is colorful pajamas of your choice, just make sure you tuck that pajama shirt in! Lmao
