I,ve seen the vids, of riders builds. They thank numerous companies for the free wheels, engine work, suspension, etc. My build is a all stock 04 cr125. It will be contesting for 2 state championships in district 16, in Wi. And the UP in Mi. And possibly the Racer X vet series. Ps I,m not building a bling bike, powder coating etc. Just engine work, suspension rebuild, revalve, brake rebuild, up graded disk, Rad valve, aluminum throttle tube, etc basic stuff. Thanks
This is just my opinion though.
For example guys like LundMX, Cameron Niemela and Hard_enduro_life have very professional content in their social media accounts. It takes huge amount of time and proper camera equipment to create that
I have done several bike builds and always paid everything myself. There are only handful of people who are qualified for free stuff

It seems like everyone is doing a bike "build" these days, and everyone wants something for free. But to get things for free, you need a solid marketing plan. Will the build be featured in a magazine? In a prominent website? Do you have a serious (100k+) social media following? Are you a pro rider that will be racing supercross or the nationals? Are you in the industry (manufacturer, shop, etc.)?
And what are you building? Everyone and their grandma is doing a YZ125 build. Are you doing something different?
We gave a couple sets of clamps out for free in the past and found little or no return on that investment. So we just stopped doing it. If a build will get some press and is marketed well, then we consider a discount. How big of a discount comes down to what we'll get in return.
If you're a rider doing a build, that at most will get a Vital post, you're probably not getting any sort of discount, especially now with the shortage of product most companies have. To get a sizable discount, or things for free, start checking the boxes I listed in the second paragraph. I know we're not the only ones with this policy as I've talked to multiple other companies doing the same thing now.
Sell yourself and the build. It's not easy, and you won't do that overnight, but that's what you need to pull discounts and/or free product. You'll probably have better luck with bigger companies too, as they have a budget specifically for this sort of thing.
