Maybe the injury was not as serious as everyone thinks. Maybe the corrective surgery was just to clean out some bone frags and he is good to go.

Either way, everyone still has to line up and finish a race, we will see who is left standing at the end...

this is KRAAZY! Hats off to him to go for it but I really hope that this is not medically too early and not something that will develop in a recurrent knee injury.

All I can imagine is that he will to try to ride around and collect any points he can.

By the next round it will be 3 weeks off the bike, and a swollen/wired together knee. Not exactly a recipe for success.

Only 21 years old and he makes it sound like this is his only chance at a Championship. What is wrong with him. For his sake I hope the increased potential of more damage caused by riding a motorcycle for 70 minutes in the foothills of the Rockies is worth the rest of a career.

Why is "this year" the year? JS didnt do that in 2007... RC did not do it back in 2004 SX Season. Great riders know when the injury is substantial enough and sit it out and heal properly. Knee injuries are not usually things you take lightly.

I agree, he is young and could wait but the sense of urgency probably has to do with the economy and the smaller number of decent ($$) open rides for next year. Of course it is too early to know what it really going to happen but some of the OEMs are going to drastically reduce their financial involvement, some may go not go back to race but instead give bikes and parts to a support-team, some may go but with 1 top rider only. At this point Suzuki is rumored to have not signed any rider yet, the numbers of ride at Yam and Honda will probably be reduced.
Even if Mike is one of the 3 fastest MX racer right now, next year could be harder with RV, Dungey and maybe more. If Mike can win this title, his market value will shoot up and assure him a decent ride/salary.

There is also the fact that tony/mike live to race and if there is the tiny possibility that he can race and overcome the pain, he would do it.

It probably isnt that bad, if he is able to come back. Probably the typical hype machine. Woooo Look at what Mikey is doing!!! Its either bad, or it isnt. If its real bad, he wouldnt be riding, and certainly wouldnt be on a stationary bike. But, its probably damn sore, and he will have to ride in a bit of pain.

If Mikey can go 100% and wins he's back in it.

If he makes top ten he's not out of it.

If he gets some laps in and pulls off in pain he's a moto hero.

If he re-injures himself he's out for the season again.

Looks like if Mikey doesn't win - he breaks even. Not bad odds ...

Or he re-injures it, it turns into a chronic problem and kills his riding career.

I'm no medical expert so I can only suggest using common sense. But do you think Rick Johnson would do things differently recovering from his wrist injury if he had the chance again?

Those OEM body parts are hard to come by. Treat 'em nice.
